some articles I spied today as I did the daily news scrolling. They claim Intel is slowly filling the old budget card gap. Thanks to driver updates they're performing fairly well these days.

I dunno if I'd trust Intel gpu's just yet myself, but here's hoping they keep improving at a sane price point that can pinch competition.
My biggest concern with the intel stuff is that their drivers and all the stuff I had read about them was basically supporting older and/or ancient ass stuff and their view o n it being "Microsoft can handle it! Bye!" so it's kind of like I'm still playing stuff from the 80s-90s and whatever let a lone stuff from the 00s and later

There's graphical problems with even newer things and so it'skind of like I get playing the latest and greatest but alot of the appeal to me for playing on a PC is that i can play things from basically the start of gaming still

I know that's a lot of a me issue but its one of the things that give me pause

I really hope for everyone that Starfield lives up to your hopes, but me, I am just expecting that it will be Skyrim in space, with everything that goes beyond that just being shallow window-dressing, or completely non-functional and crashing until a year or two later.

I wanna be hyped for it, but unfortunately you have the right of it. BGS games are always a circus at launch, and I'm of the opinion they don't get really good until about a year or so later when modders get things really sorted and most of the big bugs get squashed.

I'm just happy Bethesda was able to make a new and ambitious IP. With how much they've updated ESO over the years and the release of F76 I figured they would always be stuck in endless Fallout/ES purgatory. The SyFy rpg genre needed this big budget love. If Starfield is a disappointment we still have the new Mass Effect in the future. But outside of that its kind of thin so hopefully Starfield is able to fill in the void for the long run with mods and dlc.

Other than VRAM limited scenarios, Arc A770 is between a sidegrade and a downgrade for a 2070 Super, depending on the games.

really seems to be a bit of a tossup honestly. This isn't even taking into account more recent drivers since these are benches from Oct. 2022.

Intel claims they nabbed double performance in DX9 games since, and in modern stuff they upped performance by like 38% in stuff like Cyberpunk from the articles I read earlier. Just on driver updates alone.

Maybe their 2nd gen of GPU's would be a better hope though.

I'm sort of half expecting them to bring some sort of like half assed version of VATS and dilute a unique system of Fallout for the sake of trying to not make starfields combat system complete ass

I would be fine with that if the RPG stuff and story/quest writing were great. I mean that's how most classic RPGs were and even new vegas didn't exactly have amazing shooting mechanics at the time.

But there's little reason to expect bethesda to suddenly become great with that stuff. So yeah my expectations couldn't be lower. I do think the trend of BGS games getting worse with each one finally ends with starfield but that's only because I'm not sure how you can get any worse or dumbed down than FO4 (or 76 if you want to count that).

Speaking of BGS/Starfield (which I can’t f’ing wait for), goddamn System Shock Remake is so good.

I’m around 8 hrs in and maybe 1/4 through the 2nd floor. In that time it dawned on me how much the gameplay loop is like a traditional BGS joint in the exploration dept.

It just scratches that looter/lore discovery itch where you find yourself meticulously pouring over every inch of an environment just waiting for the next item to reveal itself. Whether it’s sweet (and vital) items or audio/text logs. It rewards the patient player.

Last time I got this BGS vibe from a non-BGS release was Terminator: Resistance and it checked all those groovy boxes too.

Oh, and the modern-pixel presentation is just amazing. The Argento style primary color themes are dripping with atmosphere. And character locomotion and gunplay feel dialed in and tight as hell. And don’t even get me started on that claustrophobic and intricate level design (I love that there’s no Dead Space breadcrumb trail feature. That you legit have to learn your way around and memorize levels.)

SS2 Remaster promised as a freebie with every SS Remake preorder really pushed the needle for me. I enjoyed the Remaster demo enough, but I had no idea how captivating the finished product would be once I got my hands on it.

Hell yeah.

I mean, a 40k crpg is good too, just, different.

edit
I mean, even a Space Opera that isn’t Star fucking Wars :blobdrool:

Just finished Mafia Definitive Edition myself. Gonna go back for some achievement cleanup. Was a good game, I love this kind of story heavy action adventure. (But without a million objective markers and collectibles in my face.)

Feels good to actually beat a game after so long... Pretty sure the only other games i beat this year were Returnal and Sons of the Forest. :weary-face:

In a few hours, Todd will step on a stage, show us 20 minutes of Starfield gameplay and everything will be fine.

The lad always does the best demos and for some reason people call him a liar and stuff. SMH

I think it's more about what he talks about that people don't like, you know, infinite radiant quests and all that shit. But then, that's more on people getting hyped for obviously limited systems more than anything.

Because yeah, the long gameplay trailers are "made for conference" certified with slow panning and cinematic moments, but are also 100% what you get in the final product, so that's hardly deceiving.

I had to buy Lost Planet 2 from a key-site because Capcom still hasn't re-enabled buying on Steam directly, which probably means they haven't fixed the installation issues... :thinking-face:

Talk about a series that could use some remasters... Those GFWL days were dark days indeed. o_O

Started playing Jedi Survivor since we're like 5 patches in now and...

  • It still compiles "files" (shaders I assume) on every start up with no hardware, software, or other change (including starting up multiple times in one day)
  • FPS with rtx off and half the settings not maxed out is not a steady 60 with a 4090 card
  • No crashes first 4 hours, but now 2 crashes in past 2 hours (out of memory, as if)
  • Noticeable draw-in when turning camera left and right
Sooo I guess I'm waiting a couple more months for at least a couple more patches, then

I’ll get Jedi survivor when it’s 60% or more off and maybe there’s been a patch. Maybe not.

Hard to tell when a publisher is telling the truth in a Twitter JPEG.

There's been FIVE patches, so there's no guarantee of more or if there are more that they'll "fix" it. There is clearly just something wrong with the build so hopefully they do, and I know a lot of people are running into the issue of it only crashing after you get into the town, so like 3-4 hours of playtime (which means no refunds on Steam)

If it comes down to months of silence I can try turning the settings way down and even trying it on another pc, but I have other stuff I can play. It just sucks to get 5 hours into something and suddenly it becomes unplayable.

Main thing I want is good mysterious space exploration. I love space because how uncharted, mysterious and lack of knowledge we have of it.

after a few dozen hours, I get slowly fed up with D4.
Biggest issue is: LEVEL SCALING

  • I want to set my own pace on how challenging I want my content to be
  • every time you level up, you get weaker unless you find an upgrade, which is completely luck based
  • you can basically soft-lock your character because the mobs are too hard to kill if you don't find upgrades
  • you can't circumvent the gear problem because there is NO Legendary trading and NO Auction house!
  • playing with your friends argument is BS because gear still plays a more important role than level and there are better systems available (scaling damage down to lowest party member level while still getting level-appropriate gear)
  • open world needs level scaling is not even a real argument
  • WT 1 and 2 can be level scaled, but WT3 and 4 should have levels.
  • level scaling is a balance nightmare, you just can't balance it right for specific classes or people's skills. its either too hard for less skilled players, or too easy for more skilled players, in a non scaling leveling system you could either play content below your level or above your level
  • and the nightmare dungeon system throws away the leveling system entirely anyway!

Started playing Hard West 2, which was a stupid decision as I find it so far really good (reminds me off Wasteland 3 which I liked a lot) because I have barely touch my copy of Zeld TotK and Diablo 4.

I really hope for everyone that Starfield lives up to your hopes,
It doesn't matter much either way as the narratives have already been written.

Haters will continue to moan about BGS losing touch and dumbing down.

Fans will continue to eat it up and spend hundreds of hours playing.

No need to show any extended gameplay, the scripts have already been written.

Yeah, Diablo 4 has some funky difficulty balance and level scaling is trash. You quickly realize that levels means shit and your real power progression is through skills and loot.
Balance is the weakest point of the game.
