I'm trying to imagine a unified setup in my home. Like making the Deck my main PC, for example.

Resolution and power issues aside, there is one immediate issue I suppose is not fixable :
Is there a way to set up the Deck to boot on Desktop side ? Preferably only when Docked ?

The energy weapons look extremely cool, so I understand you're preference there.

AC6 is kind of like the Souls series in one way, and that is that Fashion Mechs are definitely a thing. I have totally skipped over parts because I didn't think they looked cool enough on my mech.
I ended up being a lightweight gunslinger with 2 laserpistols, once i got used to the speed and the rapid fire pew pew pew i couldn't do anything else. The 2 shoulder slots i switched around depending on the mission requirements.

Thank you ! Not ideal. At all.
I wonder if booting in desktop or gaming, depending on if the machine is in the dock or not, is even possible at a linux level.

I recently finished Sniper Elite 3 which I thought was quite an OK-ish game. Yesterday I booted up Sniper Elite 4 and holy moly, what an improvement!
The protagonist was quite sluggish and hard to control in SE3, but all that is resolved in SE4. And it seems like they softened the whole "one-shot->relocate" thing that you were "forced" to do all the time in SE3.

Hey, people who know things (so basically me excluded) would USB transfers be faster than SSH ?

The Steam Deck USB port is USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) so i guess it all depends on what your transfering from/too.
If the device also support USB 3.2 Gen 2 and the cable do as well then usb should be faster.
USB specs/naming scheme/ etc is such a mess.
But certainly ssh would be more convenient.

Well like I said I'm trying to find a use for the Deck in my set up. And for that I still have to understand how to transfer files into it.
Warpinator was quick but fiddly, and last time I checked you couldn't make a destination folder on the SD.
SSH is slow as shit, or maybe it wasn't full speed. Like I said the other day, announcing 1h for 10go is rough.
So yeah, maybe the Decky plugin that makes transfers via USB possible.

What I don't understand, and nobody explained it to me last time, is how transfer speed to the SD can be complete trash, but installing a game from the steam library doesn't seem to suffer. Like, how ? It also involves writing on the SD...

edit
I tried downloading what I need directly to the Deck. Archive decompression is hell.

I've been using just Warpinator with no issues. I usually prepare the whole folder on desktop and transfer that folder on Warpinator default location.
Then once on Deck I just move the folder to the location I want (I have a shortcut to SD location pinned on the left column).
f.e. userdata\id\config\grid on my Desktop (custom Steam library images folder) is 3,34GB and contains 5.782 files transfers pretty fast via Wifi and Warpinator.
I usually do this for non-steam cracked games (copying the installed folder from Desktop), ROMs, PS3 games which are in folder system) or ISO files too.

I was curious about Komodo and TGS this year and it looks like I got my answer.

They are technically at TGS but they just don't have their own both.

At BitSummit they had a booth but they also lent some of the indie devs at the event some units to help show of their games, in exchange those indie devs had some small instruction booklets about the Steam Deck (thus not only promoting the game itself but also the Steam Deck as well).

Valve themselves have also been doing this, they did this last year at Game of the Devs from what I remember, we're a number of indie devs had Steam Deck to display their games, courtesy of Valve.

This is why they don't have a booth this year (other wise it likely would have been very similar to last year). One of the complaints does seem to be text size though, maybe some indie devs just didn't have enough time to adjust their text/UI size. I know that there are some games that will even have a unique text size in order to be easier to read on the Steam Deck.

One last thing, it seems that 10 hours ago their was a TGS main show, you had Harada from Bandai at this event along with others. From my understanding they did talk about PC gaming in addition to the Steam Deck. I could be wrong but it looks like the Steam Deck is an effort that Valve is putting in to also reach more of the Japanese market, but the biggest issue is price (which I highly doubt would get solved unless they some how plan to make a slimmer model that cost $100 less. If the base model cost ¥40,000 and if it went on sale for ¥37,000 at times then maybe it would truly sell like hot cakes. ¥53,800 is what the 64GB version sells for when it on sale.

Also Harada talked about the importance of community and that's one of the things that helps a game last a long time (and yet doesn't Tekken have some PS exclusive stuff?) So much for community.

PS I was writing this up before Arc shared that image.

Do you think we will get to see that keynote saved somewhere?

Since I really want to hear all of it

I know that it was on Twitch

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but Suicide Squad looks like it’s being sent to die.

I know there’s not a massive crossover between it and some of the other games on that list, but at least one of those games is going to get 90+ on Meta/Opencritic and completely dominate the discourse.

And I’m telling you now, there’s no way suicide squad gets 90+. I’d be surprised it gets into the 80s - the game looks like ass.

Ok, that's it. I was far too quick to consider the Deck as my desktop. Maybe with Deck 2 when the drivers are mature.

  • Hey, a new firmware for the dock is available !
  • Ok, bro, update it.
...
Now my desktop is vertical and I had to set it up as vertical to go back to horizontal.

On the bright side, warpinator is quick. Will keep using it.

It was sent to die before that line-up, imho. This is just the fatality, the cherry on top.

Needless to say I was feasting last night with all the previews and news. They're really going all out with this and the world is seamless with no loading. Really making FF16 look very last gen here.

Everyone's trying to stay out of rebirth's path but it's getting ridiculous lol. I burst out laughing when apollo justice announced its date today, of course it's in that same week as everything.
