If you think a game MIGHT be good, just wait until after it comes out and buy it then. No reason to preorder or prepurchase. If it's good, you win and if it's bad you can just wait for them to fix it and get it in sale or skip it entirely.

Any amount you lose in presale discounts will be instantly made up for by skipping just one game that turns out to be terrible. And since we still live in a world where "AAA" games release as broken messes on PC still, it is always better safe than sorry.

We've seen developers doing novel things on Steam to help build an audience though a separate app that most call a 'prologue'. In these examples, developers are buying a secondary appID and releasing it as a stand-alone free game to promote the upcoming release of their full premium game. This has been fine with us, but we've seen a few ways that it causes confusion for players and unnecessarily requires devs to pay a second app fee. With a few changes to how demos work, we can replicate the positive benefits of a separate 'prologue' while also creating a tighter connection between the two entities so that customers are clear on how to learn more about the full game and to wishlist the correct thing. The changes already made to demos should make it unnecessary for developers to purchase a separate appID to use for prologues, and can instead use the demo appID that is already associated with their game.

I hope they get around to releasing a desktop build
I plan to buy or build a all amd desktop pc before the end of the year or early next year.
All those handhelds use very similar hardware to the Steam Deck: AMD APUs, so a lot of the work on the Steam Deck should carry over fairly well. For a general Desktop build you'd expect great low-level support for Nvidia hardware as well and I think that might take quite a bit more work. Given the recent improvements with Nvidia drivers, this will probably still happen, but given how slow Valve is, it might very well take them years to get there

Deadlock takes are something.

Remember when journalists refused to cover Insomniac leaks even when they didn't have NDA and didn't actually participate in hacking/mining data.
And a lot of those outlets were eager to cover other leaks such as GTA 6 and Capcom. Certain companies cough*Sony*cough definitely get special treatment.

Regardless, the author for The Verge article got a slap on the wrist and the internet is blowing it out of proportion. Again.

I lost track of how many times I went to a presentation or demo of a product (even during the pandemic through Zoom or Teams) that was for my eyes or group only, without having to sign an NDA. Typical video game hubris.

Anyways finished all STALKER games and did an Anomaly run. Might do a GAMMA run but that doesn't work that well on Linux and deviates a bit too much from the STALKER formula. The wait for STALKER2 is on, deep dive got me pumped!

The only people blowing it out of proportion are the game 'journalists'. Everyone understands that if you post footage of a closed beta you will get banned from the beta. Many people other than that Verge guy also got banned for doing the exact same thing. The only people getting bent out of shape are these bloggers who think this is somehow infringing upon their constitutional rights of free expression and freedom of the press. And then you have that muppet who thinks this is Valve exercising their monopoly and how it's indicative of the evils of capitalism and what not. Fucking clown show going on as usual with the games media.

KH just crashed on me RIGHT BEFORE the whale save point because I alt tabbed during a cinematic and apparenly that makes the game go ballistic, fucking hell.
I saved so many times in my 50hr hard playthrough. Pretty much went over all the available save slots like 3 times over lol. There was too many weird difficulty spikes in that game so I didn't want to risk playing sections over again.

I think I had just one crash on Deck early on in the Aladdin area. But it was only like a 20 minute time waste.

game journalists act like cops without the authority (thankfully). Doesn't matter how badly one fucked up they have to act like one of their brothers got shot and defend them to the death. Just another example of how weird and incestuous the industry is with each other.

Step into the paws of a brave, four-legged special agent! In BARKOUR, you work for a secret organization where all agents are exceptionally skilled animals brought together by one goal: to save the world from the forces of evil (and mischievous cats)!

Prepare to face bizarre villains in entertaining, action-packed encounters! But don't fret—they may turn out funnier than expected. Each mission is like an episode of a spy comedy, riddled with twists and turns, p(b)arkour-intensive platforming, and fetching locations!

Even though T.H.U.N.D.E.R. is a trained professional, he remains a regular dog at heart. He still needs to chase his tail, scratch an elusive itch behind his ear, and occasionally sniff someone's behind… even in the heat of battle. Dangerous, and yet undeniably adorable, he's the perfect mix of agent and man's best friend.
Apart from fluent acrobatics and lightning-fast movements, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. has a vast combat experience, making him a formidable foe to his enemies.

Looks like my point was proven correct to a degree. If you look at some of the post that people have made about the game. They haven't even tried it heard, how that one Verge person described it as (they didn't play too much did they?) and that's how they are going to view the game.

Also I guess that we have not really changed much in 10+ years and the battle of multiplayer vs single player still wages on with some people still 100% convinced that no multiplayer game exist that has at least 1 single passionate person on the team at all and that every single person working on that game hates it and would rather work on something else.

"I cannot imagine anyone working on that game is passionate about it, yet some small group or maybe even a single person is a absolutely insistent that truckloads of cash and human lifetimes of man-hours should be committed to it and won't understand why it fails."

Who knows maybe this individual is correct and Icefrog is specially doing this only for the money and not because he and others think the game is actually fun to play and are enjoying it themselves.

I'm also 100% convinced that this same individual (and I would imagine that others in the past as well) would have said the same thing about, "oh look yet another sandbox open world crafting game" just like all of the others, I highly doubt that time is passionate about it at all. Which just seems insane. I'd imagine that some of the people working on those types of games really like them, like Palworld but it's just that they want to show of their unique take on the genre. And well

It seems to have worked if Palworld was able to get that high up on that last. Also look at Helldiver's 2 as well. That is a live service multiplayer game as well. I'd image that at least some of the people on that team were passionate about that game as well.

Interesting that a saber game is coming to steam and not EGS
tbh it visually reminds me a bit of A Knight's Quest, a Zelda-like game that was released as an EGS exclusive back in 2019 and for whatever reason never made it to Steam (the only explanation I can think of is that it bombed so hard at launch across all platforms that the publisher (Curve Studios) decided not to bother continuing to support it). anyway, I hope it meets with a better fate

I tried this last night and it was pretty damn impressive.

Only dings are it's a bit too dark in some spots and I wish you could turn off the yellow screen flash when you pick up items. Also turned off the jelly-blood effect as I wasn't a fan.

Super-ace otherwise and will likely eat up my weekend gaming.

Also love that it has GZ Doom packed in already so you only need to click the .exe in the folder to launch the game. Easy-peasy.

Glancing at a few random store pages and toggling this on and off, it seems to remarkably improve the top reviews.

To be honest I never had much of an issue finding good reviews, the top few were almost always low-effort or outdated, but dig just a bit deeper and the good reviews were always there. This just seems to surface them much more consistently. Will be curious how well this works over time and if the meme posts find ways to surface around it.

The biggest issue has and continues to be Steam point farmers, in theory the points would award high quality, but almost the opposite happens and folks try to post to bait awards, but this is a bigger deal on the forum side of things.

Just a PSA for those with NVidia cards and freesync/gsync monitors, lately in games where low frame compensation activates, the LFC behaviour has been pretty erratic sometimes for me, for example in a 30fps game it was varying between 47Hz and 80Hz or so, resulting in alot of flickering. I also had flickering happening sometimes in 60fps games.

It's possible that this may be only happening on some monitors, but reverting to the late June drivers, version 556.12, fixed the issues for me.

I was getting large amounts of flicker in starfield recently in some areas even though my framerate was high. The ryujin building in particular was so bad it was genuinely distracting and that's a well lit area too. Usually the only times I've noticed vrr flicker on any screen is in darker spots.

thats my plan as well – I basically want a highend Desktop "Steam Deck" ;)
While there would certainly be conveniences with SteamOS on desktop out-of-the-box, you can achieve more or less the same thing by installing the Linux components yourself (e.g. arch, Plasma, gamescope, MangoHUD, Steam, etc.). And arguably it's the better option since SteamOS is immutable, though for inexperienced users or those that strictly want to use their machine as a gaming box it could be a positive.

If you really want something like SteamOS on desktop, I've heard good things about Bazzite:

My post was more targeted towards wanting to switch the AMD hardware, as it just seems to play nicer with Linux than Nvidia (however, it remains to be seen if the drivers indeed will get better in the near future). Ive had some troubles with games that dont like Nvidia on Linux, but play fine on Steam Deck, and that led to a wish to build an AMD-based Linux gaming PC in the future.

Ive indeed posted about Bazzite not too long ago in the Linux thread; I didnt check it out yet however (Ive been a Manjaro user since 2021 or so).

By the way in regards to Yuzu and the Steam Deck and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year door

What's the best way to go about it. I still have a build that some one in here shared prior to Yuzu being taken down. I'm not sure if that version could still be used. I did also want to find out how would I go about "getting" the game. I have not searched for ROM in years, it used to be way easier but then Emuparadise was taken down and I just never bothered to learn all of the new stuff.

I also saw that there are mods for Thousand Year door to get it to run at 60fps. Is there any issue with those or should I stick to 30fps?

Or is it too much of a hassle and not really worth it and I should just get dolphin and play the GameCube version instead? By the way can you play the Switch version with a GameCube controller? I still have my GameCube controller and USB adapter for Switch to use it.
