The statement by AMD, if it is true, only says Valve is a customer. We know that Valve is working on a VR headset and if rumours are to be believed, it will have some wireless capabilities, hence it will need some chip to drive it.
I am not expecting a Steam Deck 2 until they can double pretty much everything, including bandwidth. Things like LPDDR6 sound super promising there, but won't hit markets until a few more years. By then you will probably have even better mobile chips from AMD to go along with those.
