The statement by AMD, if it is true, only says Valve is a customer. We know that Valve is working on a VR headset and if rumours are to be believed, it will have some wireless capabilities, hence it will need some chip to drive it.

I am not expecting a Steam Deck 2 until they can double pretty much everything, including bandwidth. Things like LPDDR6 sound super promising there, but won't hit markets until a few more years. By then you will probably have even better mobile chips from AMD to go along with those.

No reason to trust videocardz on anything if they don't link a direct source, which they don't for any of those recent AMD articles.
AMD has their CES thing in... 13 hours? They'll blow their load there.
Yeah, I agree.

Even if we assume that the statement from AMD is actually correct, that doesn't mean it's going into a Steam Deck. Videocardz might have just made that part up.

None of the chips in the Z2 series seem fully suitable to achieve the goals Valve previously stated for a true Deck successor.

I gave up on Death Stranding after 5 chapters and almost 30 hours of fetch quests and building roads. The story and setting are amazing, but I'm so f*cking tired of bringing cargo from one building to an exact copy of that building on the other side of the map. Also f*ck those invisible enemies (BT's). How did this game sell 20 million copies?

Also tried some Ghostrunner last night. Awesome concept, but for some reason I keep dying by enemy bullets. Not sure what the problem is, but I can't get the timing right, and often I get shot by enemy B while focusing on enemy A.

Perhaps I'm getting too old for these kinds of games. I'm gonna play some more Picross tonight... ;)
I actually got addicted to DS' gameplay loop but turned the game off during the ending scene. It's an endless exposition dump that goes on forever. I thought to myself "wtf am I doing?" and just uninstalled the game. It's actually comical how Kojima manages to get these high profile actors to spout this nonsense with a straight face. I just couldn't get myself to waste any more time listening to that gibberish.

Plagman's response about the Videocardz article:

There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. Guessing the slide was meant to say the series is meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific.

Finally started Dragon Ageā€¦ 2.
Shambolic gameplay. Half decent characters and world building.

I then immediately followed that by a HIGH fever through the night, not sleeping before 8 am.
Coincidence ?
DA2's world building is actually its best part, one of the best "single location" setting I've seen (not Gothic levels good, but its still great).
All the factions hate each other but live next to one another, so engaging with its politics feels much different than in your typical RPG. Bioware of 2011 did a smart move in its setting, give their 18 month dev period.

Very oppressive atmosphere too.

Honestly, the Rockstar launcher requiring me to login again constantly is nothing compared to the EA client just refusing to work at all. Especially on the Steam Deck.
There is no such thing as ā€˜enforcing adding diversityā€™.

How come cis white people add value by default but everyone else has to justify their existence in media.
I guess unless you count Blizzard (Yes, this is a real image)

Activision Inexplicably Introduces Tool to Rate Character Diversity Metrics

I've also seen plenty of people debate the generic white male marine-bro character archetype in 7th gen western shooters for a while.

AMD locking FSR4 to their new cards taking away it's only advantage over DLSS is peak AMD
This is the same company that tried barring Hypr-RX and AFMF to RX 7000 cards until there was outcry over it. Hypr-RX didn't really get added despite people constantly asking for low latency options. I can't even use AFMF on my gaming laptop with an AMD dGPU for some contrived reason.

Depending on the price and VRAM, my next desktop setup might have an NVIDIA GPU this time around.

Reason: Turns out replies aren't separate unless you do them all at once, and since then I added something about AMD's GPUs, and Blizzard's diversity chart.

Me just now realizing that I will probably be able to afford a 5090, but 80-85% of what Im playing are indie games that can run on a potato.
I'd probably rest knowing that I could get one of those 32:9 1440p OLED panels that run at 240Hz, and have those games looking and feeling really good on them with no struggle. I still have some time until I do the new build that I have planned.

In fact, once I do my new desktop PC build, I'm probably going to buy one. I just wish the Ryzen 7 9800X 3D wasn't so overpriced outside of Amazon.
I'll see tomorrow morning the full scope of their bullshit.
We are already hearing rumors about the RTX 5080 only having 16GB of VRAM, while the mobile 5090 having 24GB. I just hope the 5080 pricing isn't ridiculous.

I just have a virtual 800p monitor for that, though your method might be better if you stream to different devices.
I tried a dummy plug for a while but It was a pain in the ass
Games didnt opened on the correct side and I had to set It up as a primary display to let them go there. As this was a fake display i had all sort of issue knowing where the cursor was and how Windows was handling everything, let alone letting the game getting the correct configuration every time i wanted to use that fake monitor
Everything Is easier with a virtual one or i still need anydesk (Or smth else) to use It properly?
My use case would be in home streaming from a desktop PC to a Steam Deck connected to a TV while sending a 4K 16:9 res instead of an ultrawide aspect ratio (Right now i just use a 1440p resolution whenever i stream there but thats just not perfect)

RTX 5070 is $549 and it's supposed to be on par with the RTX 4090. That's a bold claim. Definitely gonna be curious about benchmarks.

Edit: Keeping in mind that RTX 5070 is on par with the 4090 as long as the game you're playing supports DLSS 4. At least that's how I understand it anyways.

Barring the 5090 those prices are too good to be true... I don't trust Nvidia. This is probably just for the Founder's edition, I bet there's some fuckery going on with the AIB models.

Next Virtua Fighter looked nice in their presentation.

In-engine not actual gameplay as it says but I'm sure it'll look close enough if they keep up this intent, VF always had great attention to animations and things like blocking not being just one (or three for low, med and high or whatever) static stance that works for every attack and the attacking fighter also comboing unfazed on top of that, it seems they're taking that even further. Hopefully they also do away with juggling and hit glows etc., but people like that shit so...

Yeah they were using dlss 4 generating most of the frames to make that claim.

Fake it til you make it!

They are also updating the other DLSS technologies which will benefit RTX 20, 30, and 40 series users.

This is actually MUCH more interesting than new video cards.

Geforce Now is coming to Steam Deck

Official support is great news.

Cloud gaming will be a good way to future proof these dated devices.

Assuming GeforceNow is around 10-15 years from now. Being able to dust out your old Deck and stream new games on it will be a lot of fun.

Mt. Whatever
AMD slapped intel's ass and landed the huge DELL contract.

I think Nvidia's prices are ok this time around. 5070 Beats out $500 consoles for just $50 more and you get 3-4x the performance. I'll probably be holding onto my 4080S for a bit more though. Wait and see what a 5080S is like down the road a year from now.

I'm more curious these days about the laptop variants. A 3060Laptop to 4060Laptop was a ~33% Jump, I wanna know what a 5060 Laptop is gonna look like. (And hopefully has 12GB VRAM minimum.)

I think the most interesting thing for me about the nvidia announcements is the DLSS override option that is going to be coming to the nvidia app, though at first it seems like it won't support every game?

I know it's already possible to do this through modding, but it'll be nice to be able to to this directly through the nvidia app.

When it comes to the new GPUs, I think I'm gonna settle for the 5060 Ti this time if the rumours about it having 16GB VRAM are true, and in 2 years I may do a proper upgrade to a 6070 if they don't skimp on VRAM again.
I don't want a GPU that needs much more than 200W and 5070's 12GB VRAM is hard to justify for 600+ā‚¬...

EDIT: Euro prices are bad as usual, and seems like this time each country has different prices listed, for example:

Germany:
5090 - 2330ā‚¬
5080 - 1170ā‚¬
5070 Ti - 880ā‚¬
5070 - 650ā‚¬

Italy:
5090 - 2390ā‚¬
5080 - 1200ā‚¬
5070 Ti - 900ā‚¬
5070 - 660ā‚¬

Yea you know, i don't think i am willing top accept a future where new GPU's always launch at these insane prices while simultaniously games are more and more """optimized""" solely with DLSS in mind if you want to have any performance at all, when i can't even tell the graphical differences between a brand new game and one from 7 years ago anymore

I mean, there were times when I was absolutely blown away by how good the path tracing was making a scene look in Indiana Jones and I hope more developers adopt proper raytracing but at the same time there have also been instances in the past where I've felt that games have looked "good enough". Night City would be one obvious example but that one also had the full RTX overdrive mode in it. Toussaint in the Witcher 3 was an absolute dream. Battlefield 1 (and generally the Battlefield games) looked absolutely phenomenal as well. The Division was great when it released. Assassin's Creed Origins (the last one I played) looked amazing for it's time and scale and I know Ubi have upgraded their visuals a lot since then. Of course, a lot of it has to do with the artwork and not just the technical side of things. One can go back now and see the limitations and flaws with the LOD and the geometry and all but at the time, while you were playing those games, they really were so good that you didn't feel like you needed better.

Sort of reminds me of this tweet from a couple of days ago from an ex-Battlefield designer

This one isn't exactly fair because it's pre-rendered weather in a small scene but you have to admit it really does look good enough for what it's trying to show.
