News Epic Games Store

Lmao. Are you even aware that you write like a meme. I'm waiting for your "checkmate" move. Let's leave it at this to not detail the topic further and you make a your grand defense of that hate movement in your very own thread.
Why are you refusing to answer the question? Is the game industry corrupt: YES OR NO?

Yeah keep it to shitting on epic. Make a new thread for the other stuff.
Can that really happen, given the info that's already been presented in relation to everything surrounding the EGS? You have the companies doing everything in their power to piss off their customers. You have the games media calling everyone critical of the EGS every other buzzword in the book. And, you even have shilling campaigns taking place on other forums, according to C-Dub, clasifying everyone critical of the EGS as a conspiracy nut. Not to mention the details that are being implied when you begin to follow where all the money is coming from.

Some users asked why isn't anyone doing anything, I pointed out what happened the last time this took place, and then people jumped to conclusions that I was referencing a boogeyman. A boogeyman that NEVER ACTUALLY EXISTED.

Sure some are trying to paint the epic criticism as the new gamergate, but that was more in the begining and I don't see much of that now, I think the epic criticism is actually taken seriously more and more. So there isn't really no need to compare this to GG because that will only fuel those that are trying to shut down the epic criticism.

Oh dear Lord, you're one of the idiots who spent money on this thing.

just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean you can just call them names and insult them ....

I think the epic criticism is actually taken seriously more and more.

definitely ... both from the devs and from the journalists as well

Some price changes on the Eggstore. I wonder why. Not enough pre-orders for Observation? Not enough sold copies for Operencia?

Observation 18,89 Euro instead of 22,49 Euro
Operencia 24,99 Euro instead of 29,99 Euro

Maybe others too. I just looked at these two.

Well, for all the much-vaunted discussion about how much more a publisher will earn on the EGS than via other storefronts, its kind of a bad look to slap the same pricetag on as the consoles have

that was always going to be the case, though .... the lower cut was always for the developers/publishers to get more money ... not for the games being cheaper for the customers ...

anyone who believed in this trickle down bullshit was just lying to themselves

It just looks even worse when 6 months down the line they're free in Xbox GamePass and/or Playstation Plus

Well, that's great for them.

They get Epic's money, and they get your money next year.

If you really want to "punish" these companies and hurt them, don't support them.
There are so many other alternatives, you don't need to reward a company that pulls crap like this.

We all know that the gaming industry is top-heavy.

As in, the sales mean most at launch. Then begins diminishing returns.

And who said any of us will be paying full price? Outer Worlds went from a day-one purchase to a-sequel-will-be-out-before-I-buy.

Operencia and AfterParty are in GamePass from launch so already not a good look.

GamePass is also the way I plan to play AfterParty. Would have bought it full pfice on Steam but Night School made their bed.

You have to be kidding. EGS's prices were above console levels?

This hits me rather hard. I mean, in many ways this feels like a consolization of the PC platform.

Wasn't that pretty much expected with how all digital storefronts still charge the exact same price as they would selling the game physically, except now they didn't have to pay for the production of the packaging?

it was expected, yes ... absolutely

it's just that we've all seen a good bit of people saying it would magically make games cheaper now that developers/publishers would get a bigger cut

or rather - lots of people believed Tim when he said that it would make games cheaper

where, to this date, only one game was cheaper ... and even then only in one region (the US, of course) ... so it was nothing more than a publicity stunt as far as i'm concerned

that's exactly what epic (and all the publishers) want

why are you even surprised? :p

Part of me wanted to remain open to the possibility that I was over-reacting. I am still leaning toward the belief that they only have short-term greed in mind and the perception of evil grand plan for the platform is mostly born of our own fears.

Seeing those prices was chilling. The PC has historically been the single best place to buy games, seeing it fall behind consoles is absolutely fucking shameful.

I am pretty sure Steam and the PC will weather all this bullshit but hell it's hard to keep a cool head when confronted with those people's naked intentions.

i'd say it's both really ... they DO have short-term greed in mind ... but they are banking on this being their long-term plan as well ... as in: they think they can do it and people will keep buying their stuff forever

we can only hope ... i certainly do

still shit ... even more so than before ;)

(and they still haven't fixed it)
Lmao

I'm guessing this is because of refunds. Epic are such dumbasses that they pushed those games without having a automated way of having Uni revoke it on their end if a game is refunded. So people have been able to buy and refund Uplay games and keep them until now for free. I guess they are working on a steam-like implementation of Uplay now.

I would say games have a visibility problem on EGS now, since game releases are being overshadowed by the circus surrounding the rest of the store, and hype dies pretty much the week after launch. The hype or mindshare only comes back up if Epic or the devs/pubs release PR claiming great numbers/vague 'we did great at launch'. Even here I don't see many talking about titles on EGS, when usually tails for pc games last a month or two before we start seeing rttp/lttps and hype bubbles up some.

I haven't heard a damn thing from Metro since their 'we had a bigger launch' PR, and I haven't heard anything about Ashen since it launched at all. Literal silence

I mean... a title getting EGS exclusivity is going to get press that "regular ass game releases in regular ass method on regular ass storefronts" does not, but thats because moneyhat exclusivity deals are still a novelty. There are literally dozens of titles released daily elsewhere that get near zero attention.

You also have the situation that right now there's just not that many titles available on EGS period, and those with products there now do have immediate visibility to anyone that just goes to the EGS with money to burn on buying something.

But as I think I've said before, its like a pyramid scheme. Those getting in now are going to reap all the benefits, and continue to reap the benefits of lower tiers of the pyramid, because each new exclusive targetting a different audience, is going to bring a new group of different set of eyes to the store to see whats there.

But like a pyramid scheme, that shits just not sustainable.

that's because epic's strategy is that "influencers" will handle all the marketing .... they've said it numerous times - they aren't planning for EGS to have ANY marketing features

But like a pyramid scheme, that shits just not sustainable.

exactly ... it's the same as on the Switch ... everyone who got in there at the very beginning made bank ... now? not really ... and they already have like 2000 games on there

except the nintendo shop was in a MUCH better state than EGS is right now, after 6+ months ... even at the very beginning ...

I don't like to talk about EGS too much even though it is indeed a pressing concern in the world of PC gaming.

However, I do find it interesting that it's a powerful motivator for some of us to get through our backlogs. Pyrrhic victory?
I am definitely spending less money thanks to Epic and publishers/developers doing moneyhats.

But then I am probably in the minority that isn't just boycotting EGS and the games that go exclusive, but also the publisher's entire catalogue going forward, for an undetermined length of time.

What might tip me over the edge to supporting them again (on Steam or GOG, most likely) is when their games are at a more acceptable price. 50% off minimum for most games (such as titles published by Devolver), but depending on the publisher's bullshit that discount threshold might be higher. 75% off for anything published by Annapurna, for example, because they are so brazenly in bed with Epic in a way that no other publisher is.

Also probably 75% off for Hades too, mostly because I loved Supergiant Games, and their decision to go EGS exclusive hurt more than most others.

Remember when the only complaint was that it had no music? Literally unusable.

same ... haven't bought anything on egs and i'm definitely not planning on changing that ... ever

Remember when the only complaint was that it had no music? Literally unusable.

i know, right? lol

I'm spending more money because I feel like I should encourage developers who don't go the epic way and who say it would be bad for their image to operate in an anti-consumer way. So yeah, fuck Epic for this as well.

eh, i'm not ... i'm buying stuff i would've bought anyway (on steam) ... so i'm only saving money by not buying stuff i would've bought if it was on steam

¯\(ツ)

When I've settled into my new job I'll have a lot more disposable income, so I may start picking up non-EGS games with a smaller discount, just so I can add them to my backlog. It's reached a point where I rarely buy full-priced games anymore (and since I'm presently not earning a living wage, I have to make cutbacks to be able to afford games full stop), but my backlog is so big now that I don't really need to buy many new games. Just have to work through the backlog of games that I really want to play before I really consider spending more on games or games hardware. So with that in mind, my default position is to wait for a deal until I'm thirsty to play something.

I think the way modern games are has been a bit of a killjoy in that regard, irrespective of what Epic does. Microtransactions and appalling DLC are putting me off, not to mention modern game design is a bit depressing too. It's not often I enjoy a new game these days, even the critically acclaimed ones. But give me Sonic 3: Angel Island Reimagined and I play for hours.

That said, I'm enjoying Valkyria Chronicles right now. I picked it up on PS3 back in the day and couldn't get past the second mission (with the tank), and gave up quickly. I was stupid back then. Playing it again now and loving it!

but my backlog is so big now that I don't really need to buy many new games

i think that's true for pretty much everyone in here :P

i have to agree with this one as well ... they keep making those new big games longer and longer ... with bigger and bigger worlds, and more stuff to do ... and i'm just like "ugh, i don't want to play that ... i want a 5-10h game ... not a 500-1000h one"

You DO know that a "pyramid scheme" is the legal definition for an illegal business model, right? If the EGS really is one, then Epic could be receiving a friendly visit from the FTC in the near future.

I won't hold it against publishers that dip their toe into EGS. For example, I purchased Katana ZERO like everyone else.

I mean, if you want to chase EGS money, do that. Just don't expect me to participate.

Yeah, SuperGiant hits right in the feels, but they've been around long enough such that they've transcended what we think about when we say "indie." They're not small-fry anymore. Same with Klei and a select few others who are big enough that they don't have to be on the struggle bus.

You know what would really hurt though? Mimimi is currently working on Desperados III.

Under this administration?

Barely does what SCOTUS says, and DNGAF about congress.

Fat chance they do anything about videuah gaymes. Anything we'd like.

I think the only EGS games I would’ve bought otherwise are Hades and The Outer Worlds. I’ve been pretty lucky in the fact that nothing I was TRULY excited for got snatched up by EGS. So I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. Thank God Hitman 2 and Devil May Cry weren’t lured, considering that’s what I’ve been sinking hours into lately.

Observation 18,89 Euro instead of 22,49 Euro
Operencia 24,99 Euro instead of 29,99 Euro

Interestingly that's using exact same conversion rate and rounding Steam does for default euro prices.

So they changed prices to match Steams 2018+ rates. Which was then current direct conversion rate.

Which is good, maybe more devs start using those instead of $1=1€ bs.
Before this Epic recommended prices were $1=1€.

Why do that? This avoids Epic having to adjust prices to match Steam rates few days after new releases.
And avoids Steam having lower price after exclusivity period is over.
