I think fans of JP games have a right to be at least a little paranoid about EGS. It may not host any JP games at the moment but it's really a matter of "when" rather than "if." It's a big market after all and if it's true Epic is looking to damage Valve/Steam, then JP games represent a big chance for that. Just look how many days Octopath Traveler was a top-seller! (or NieR Automata, MonHon World, etc...) Personally I would be steaming (that's a pun!) if like the next big Final Fantasy got scooped up, or Code Vein, Babylon Falls, etc... Like I'm sure FROM fans would be pissed if Elden Ring got snatched huh?

There is nothing in this world that will make me install EGS or make an account for them... but that doesn't really make the pain any less if something I was looking forward to got taken from me for an extra year or permanently even. Telling people to shush up or quit being paranoid... it's not really helpful.

Like derExperte said, many people thought Devolver wouldn't take EGS money but they did. The chronicles of EGS has more letdowns than hope, people keep hoping this dev or that pub won't take the money... but so far? Nearly every Dev/Pub approached has taken the money. We have a 100:1 stories in EGS favor Vs. against them.

But well.... opinions and all that I guess.

I still find it crazy that Devolver took an EGS deal before Square Enix or Activision.

We just had a nice burial for out cat (Sussi) in our garden, she was tucked around with one of my t-shirts and a towel she used to lay on, a bunch of flowers and a note from me. It seemed like it was only one side of the head that was hit (with her eye out), otherwise the rest of her body was fine and her other eye was fine.

Im doing better than I was yesterday and I will miss her forever. Loved her a lot.

She lived like a queen and was buried like a queen.

Hmm, game pulled from sale, new publisher that likes Epic (Close to the Sun). Would've bought the game during the seal in case of solid discount, now let's see what the future brings.
well from what i understood from what they said (aka what i posted few pages ago) ...the are basically relaunching it without the Fortuna name with the promised ending DLC which is supposed to be free ... i dont really see it skipping platforms

Aqua Lungers will be releasing in full on August 9th, 2019! Come join the action and find out if you have what it takes to emerge victorious!

To be fair I'm really enjoying Bloodstained right now but I don't see it reaching the same heights Hollow Knight did imo. Just give it a little more time and you'll see why :D

Reading the Steam Grand Prix thread over at the old place, I can't believe people are STILL confused about how the metagame works.

After all these days, you would think people would understand that the capacity DOES NOT RESET between days.

I mean, the game was poorly explained at the beginning, which has since been rectified.
The only thing left that may be confusing is the fact that your points seem to fluctuate a bit every other day.

But the capacity DOES NOT RESET, and the quests DO NOT RESET OR CHANGE.

But "Booo hooo Valve sucks and can't design metagames anymore. Gimme a coupon instead."
This Steam sale meta-game has been a poorly-communicated, convoluted, and buggy mess and is only somewhat less so at this point.

There is usually a lot of confusion regarding the more complex (and even the less complex) meta-games, but nobody should be surprised that this year takes the cake. Especially so when rewards with momentary value result in higher engagement than prior, complex meta-games.

I have both rotting away in my library. What is wrong with me?

I really need to sit my ass down and play them.
You really should! Hollow Knight is really ridiculously good. If you ever enjoyed a "metroidvania" it is going to blow you away, especially if you're also into the souls games since it draws inspiration from them too!

Thats the issue. My brain physically wont let me play a Metroidvania to the end. But I keep buying them anyway. I enjoyed the short time I spent with Hollow Knight and Bloodstained so far, but id be surprised if I ever finish either.

Ill have to try and sit down and play through them, but I have to finish FFXIV Shadowbringers before I think about doing that. Thanks for the encouragement though!

In not really sure what you mean here. The alternative is getting hyped for games as normal. But how am I supposed to do that when games I want keep getting pulled despite the devs insisting that wasnt going to happen?

Its not like I can snap my fingers and be worry free. Im not going to be excited for games I want like Dying Light 2 until they’re in my Steam library. It sucks and I dont want it to be that way but I literally cant stop being paranoid.

Yeah I get where you're coming from. Our brains play devious tricks on us like that at times. Say I'd be playing and enjoying a game I've been looking forward to, and out of nowhere I'd just feel like stopping and doing anything else, even if there isn't anything else I'd rather be doing! I think it's simply my ADD to be honest. The thing that works for me sometimes is to just keep on playing until that feeling subsides, or until the game just "clicks". Once that happens I'm already well inside the rabbit hole and I've managed to get to the finish line!

At the end of the day play whatever gives you joy, but I definitely can't recommend Hollow Knight enough!

In a nutshell. No point getting too excited over a game only for it to be held ransom at that shitty, gross spyware. Fuck that noise.

After a brief moment of weakness with Bloodstained, I'm back to chipping away at my backlog. 428 Shibuya Scramble is finished. Really liked that game, but I was very ready for it finish by the end. So much so that I got to the true ending and didn't even want to see the extra chapters. Definitely a game that I wish was about a third shorter.

I saw Dishonored 2 to completion mere weeks ago, and I'm now tackling Prey. And hoo boy, that's a hell of a game. It's pushing all the right buttons for me. My only issue so far has been that enemies can take a lot of hurt. But I guess I should just run around them sometimes.

Also chipping away at a few classics I've got installed. It's easy to forget how much more accessible games have gotten. I think I might have read the manual for Arcanum longer than I've played the game.

Haven't gone wild in this sale, as usual. So far I've gotten Environmental Station Alpha, West of Loathing + its DLC, Reckonin' at Gun Manor, and Undertale (way late to the party on this one). WoL has been fun to play again real casually. Thought I'd beeline it to the DLC since I already finished the game twice before, but I'm still getting a good laugh from the writing.

Get hyped, just don't count too much on the release date. Games get delayed all the time, some of them might get a 12-months delay. :p

For me I would probably put Bloodstained slightly above Hollow Knight. I will say that I only made it roughly 3/4 of the way through Hollow Knight before dropping it. I loved the tone and atmosphere quite a lot. So many adorable characters for such a dark game too. So it certainly has that over Bloodstained by far.

It's the actual act of playing it that I'm enjoying more with Bloodstained. So far at least. I'm probably a little over half way through so maybe that will change in the last half. I'm just a sucker for having a ton of variety and trying out new equipment, skill and spell combos. :shrugblob:

But BO7AMMOOD was absolutely right when they said,

There's no wrong choice as long as you're having fun playing it! :)

I'm glad I largely moved on from the hype cycle. Most games I don't even play in the first year of release anymore anyway. Being paranoid about anything going to EGS all the time is no way to live. I'll just keep on with the overwhelming number of titles I do have access to.

I finished Bloodstained tonight, and I've written a few big posts in the OT about my problems with the game, but to be more brief here, I will say that metroidvania is probably my favorite genre of games, I replayed SotN way, way too much, I even fell asleep to the soundtrack, I've made an effort to find more games of the genre on Steam, etc. Bloodstained I was hopeful for, but at the end of the day, I can't give it higher than ~6/10. It has a lot of potential and the foundations of being a real successor to SotN, but it has too many flaws and too many poor decisions to get there.

It has way too much RNG, and way too much grind. Those are both incredibly out of place mechanics in that type of game, and even though at first glance it looks like an evolution of SotN item drops, it's a massive step backwards. It totally breaks the flow of balance of the game to a degree that I can't recall in any other metroidvania I've played.

Managed to get a second $5 discount, so here are my final purchases for the Steam Summer Sale:

Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Season Pass -- $16.03 (1st discount)
Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! HD -- $1.14
Heaven's Vault -- $23.19
The Council - Complete Season -- $14.99
Camp W -- $4.14 (2nd discount)

The only game I bought that wasn't part of my original plan was Nelly Coolalot, and I used change in my Steam wallet from selling cards for that. I'm surprised by my restraint... Usually I buy a bunch of JRPGs and then remember I don't like JRPGs.

I wonder what to buy with the second discount :thinking-face:
I'm tempted by Darkest Dungeon and Jurassic World Evolution, but will I ever realistically play them? Doubtful.

I kinda wish Steam could implement streaming games via browser, just so I could play at work without looking super suspicious :blushblob:
There are the busy months during production where I can fill more than 8 hours per day of work, but in the other months, there's lot of potential time to fill!

But games that go EGScloosie count as being canceled to me. I see no difference between Prey 2 (canceled) and Control (EGScloosie for a year or whatever); in the end I'll be skipping both, albeit for different reasons. So yeah, Epic killed hype. Now every game announcement is automatically followed with "Wait, what if Epic snatches it?" in my head.

Exactly. If they're afraid of piracy, why treat the customers that are buying their game worse than pirates?
That's where Valve came in, isn't it? Gabe and Co realized a service orientated distribution platform would woo many people away from piracy and funnily enough it worked. Eventually. I know people who buy on Steam rather than pirate stuff anymore. Then along come Epic and salt the earth for a quick buck and a crusade based on a man-child's greedy tantrums.
