Taskmaster is a great villain for Black Widow, a proper match to her own skillset. I expect a lot of fun action scenes.

Seeing as the TV stuff will finally be canon to the MCU I have to watch everything that they put out. They will probably cop out from the canon stuff by it being alternate universe/timeline. But still, need to watch!

i believe they said they would keep Deadpool movies R rated so i would assume they can do the same for Blade
If they do it under the main Marvel Studios brand then I don't think it will be R. If it's under a different brand then yeah, it would be much more likely to have an R rating.

Watched Spiderman: Far from home today with the kids.
I enjoyed it. I even liked it more than Homecoming. Of course temperatures are through the roof over here and my brain could be melting.
It's a fine MCU movie and having Spiderman without another hero overshadowing him was enjoyable. But I also look forward to a more grown up Spidy. Highschool drama is only enjoyable for a short while.

I wonder if
Spiderman wielding a self made, improvised shield and swinging one of the holographic units like thor swings his hammer is some kind of foreshadowing. Maybe he will have both Caps Shield and Thors Hammer in the future. For one brief battle...

And that cliff hanger at the end... That was new in the MCU. I hope they don't do this with every movie now. It's a bit cruel ;)

I agree. I also thought that it was a better movie than Homecoming but I consider these movies sort of a prologue for the main course which will be his adult years. Highschool drama is fine but I can't relate to it any more.

There are two interesting rumors going around, one about the Falcon and Winter Soldier show and one for Black Panther 2. Take them with a pinch of salt:

The Falcon rumor is about the show's central premise that the government doesn't approve of Sam as Captain America and will try to appoint another person. The Black Panther rumor is that the film's main antagonist will be Namor.

I know nothing about the Eternals but this image excites me. It reminds me of how my jaw dropped when I first read a Fantastic Four comic in which Galactus towered above New York, humans looking like ants by comparison.

Good. Disney doesn't own the rights and fans of "nerdy" stuff, maybe a little variety and some edge to popular superhero characters is a fucking good thing. You guys got X-Men, be happy.

Futhermore, like maybe we don't need Kevin Fergie as creative director for ALL marvel properties.... Just a thought. Maybe Disney doesn't have to have their hands in everything and dominate shit.

This is such a Sony move to make. Hopefully logic will prevail and some sort of agreement will be reached.

Disney needs to not ask for 50% of the revenue straight up lol.

Something will be worked out but Disney isn't an innocent duckling or benevolent benefactor in this saga. Tired of hearing that. I love the Marvel stories and characters and I'm damn glad that not all of them have been rolled into the MCU.

I shall now stop doing a jig at Disney's/The MCU's expense and leave this MCU thread to its fans.

It's not about being a benevolent benefactor, it's about Kevin Feige producing the last Spider-man film and making it the biggest success in Sony Pictures history. I find it perfectly logical for Marvel Studios to ask for a better deal after that. Yes, 50% might be too much but the article indicates that Sony didn't even try to negotiate. They wanted the original deal which is laughably bad for Disney (5%). Besides, Disney offered to co-finance the films and therefore assume a significant part of the risk.

Co Finance is usually assuming risk, except the risk here is losing out on making money rather than just losing your investment. I believe Disney has the all marketing rights currently (thats money right there), idk if anything was mentioned about that.

They'll get back to the table, probably but Disney is just as soulless and greedy as any major corp and I have no love for them in the slightest.

Honestly, I hate to see all of this super hero consolidation film wise. Yes I've read the comics and I know who the avengers are there but would it kill everything to have variety, maybe let wolverine keep his cigar and not have the DISNEY CODE imposed on every marvel property?

Spider-Man No More: Kevin Feige No Longer Producing Webslinger's Movies for Sony Pictures
The dispute comes from the fact that Disney wanted to take a co-financing stake in future Spider-Man movies going forward that would have resulted in a 50/50 partnership between the House of Mouse and Sony Pictures. There were even discussions that might extend the deal into other films in the Spider-Man universe. But Sony simply doesn’t want to share any more money than they have to.

Apparently, Sony proposed keeping the arrangement going under the current terms where Marvel Studios gets somewhere around 5% of the first dollar gross, but Disney wasn’t interested.
lol , no surprise tbh , given the 5%

I respect your opinion but I disagree, I want everything Marvel to be part of the MCU. It's so much fun to see the various heroes interact with each other that I'd hate for such an important character like Spider-man to get walled off to Sony's shitty movie universe that has produced nothing but crap in the last 15 years.

As for the corporate stuff, I don't watch anything Disney other than their Marvel stuff so I'm not generally a fan of the company. That said, Sony asking for the deal to stay at 5% right after Marvel Studios delivered the biggest movie in Sony's history is just ludicrous.

What, nooooo! Spiderman is such an important part of the MCU, how the hell are they going to write him out of it?

Sony stop being such shits, co-produce it! 50% of a good movie is better than all of a shitty movie.

Have Sony and Fox constantly delivered quality stuff I would've agreed, but as of now Disney proved that on average they're much better at adapting Marvel's work than their competitors. Sure, it's not a perfect transition and company's code affects it, but the fact that MCU didn't churn out F4ntastic or Venom with more than 20 films in the franchise ranging from relatively grounded Captain America to bonkers stuff with talking trees and racoons is pretty impressive.

We'll have to agree t0 disagree when it comes to variety of MCU films and the "quality" of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Disney is free to make an offer to Sony directly for the rights.

Letting the Spiderman mess sink in little I have to say I'm quite bummed about it. The cliffhanger in last Spiderman was such an interesting setup for both the MCU and for the next Spiderman movie, if nothing comes from it I will be sad.

Let's hope they'll find a compromise, nobody wants to see Holland relegated to Sony's castrated universe.

WoW.
The news reached me yesterday and at first I thought it was a joke.

But I don't understand why people are solely blaming Sony. The current deal was: Sony is paying for production, Disney is having a mayor say in making the movie. Sony takes 98% of the winnings and Disney 2%.
Now Disney wants to share production costs 50/50 but wants 50% of the winnings. That's a step and greedy change. No wonder Sony is recting hostile and moving out.

And yes, after venom (terrible and boring!) and Ghostbusters I don't trust Sony to make good movies. And it's a disasters for the MCU and every single one of us.

But I'm just as angry at Disney as at Sony. Both are 50/50 at fault here.

The Hollywood Reporter's article states that Disney wanted 30% which I personally find reasonable. The current deal is ridiculously in Sony's favor.

Hmm. Read 50% in this German article yesterday

Maybe 50% was Disney's demand and 30% Sony's offer?

Anyway, my point is: Both are big companies. Sony was founding the movies, paying for everything. I think 5% (sorry, not 2%) is pretty okay in that regard. There was no financial risk for Disney.

Far From Home cost $160 million and made $1.1 billion.

That's $55 millions for Disney.

With the new deal Sony would have to invest "just" $80 million, but would in total make $250 millions less.

Disney is asking for the same deal but for 450% more money. And I believe toys rights were in Disney's favour.

We don't know who made what kind of offer, we don't know what Sony's end offer was, we don't know how stubborn Disney was or how backwards thinking Sony.

All we know: two big companies aren't able to work together because greed was to much of a factor for both to overcome.

But the public opinion already seems to be swayed because the mouse is branded as something positive. When in truth they are both shit and to blame. In the end we are ending up with mich less interesting avengers and Spiderman movies.

Say what you will about Disney but in this case I'm in favour of them, as I am always in favour of the ip creator having control over it. And going 50/50 in both costs and profit seems reasonably to me?

Say what you will, but I favour one company over the other because they bought part of the franchise, just like the other company.

Okay

I'll keep on being angry at both of them

Yeah, look. I agree on that.
Disney Spiderman > Sony Spiderman
And the MCU needs Spiderman just as Spiderman needs the avengers.

I just don't think there is a victim or a good guy in this cooperate world. Not on that level.

Didnt sony make into the spiderverse? I'd like more of those plz
It was surprisingly good, but we could have had both. A working MCU and cool animated side stuff.

And I'm still rather sceptical. Venom was a disaster, Ghostbusters too, Jumanji was okay, at best. The Spiderman reboot wasn't good either.

Chances are, if Disney and Sony won't able to find the middle ground they're going to reboot Spidey, again (solo movie with Holland wouldn't make a lick of sense outside of MCU). It's like the most damned comic book property out there, how many times Uncle Ben can die (I love the dig at origin stories in Spiderverse)? Well, at least we'll have an eye candy back, TASM and Raimi's Spideys have that in spades.

Contrary to how some are portraying it, it's not really a slam-dunk deal for Sony.

You keep seeing the argument of "Well, Marvel gave Sony two great Spidey movies after their two duds!"

Yeah, but with their two duds (ASM1/2), they still made a shitload of money, and they were keeping all the money for themselves.

The main question for Sony would be whether or not they can make movies consistently on a reasonable budget. 2012-2014 were a bad time for Sony in terms of overinflated budgets (ASM1 costing $200 million, ASM2 costing $300 million, After Earth costing $150 million, etc). If they can keep it to a Jumanji/Venom size budget ($100-150 million) with a Jumanji/Venom sized box-office ($850 to 950 million) with no Marvel profit share...that just might sound like a better deal.
