Yeah, i was going to say that Mage has Magic and Heavy Weapon Melee so blast 'em then when they get in close club 'em!
I need to get an FPS counter but the game was solid at 2560x1440@144hz and defaulted to Ultra on my rig though my card did sound like i lived next to an airport. whew.

The difference between your character in the creator and the game itself made me feel at home. Some of the lip-sync is a bit toothy and i've seen some of the usual AI robotic pathing but it honestly just warms my heart. I agree that the artstyle is fantastic and the VA is way better than i expected. Hopefully some of the copy/paste items will be improved and varied now they have a good product that people are enjoying so it's worth polishing a bit more.

I can already see that i'm going to really, really like this game but Piranha/Spiders/Reality Pump are my jam so it would have to be dreadful for me to not like it.

Downunder.
So, what's the deal with the dynamic resolution slider? It's not marked at all, so I'm not sure how to actually set it to "off" position. :02think:

It runs surprisingly well on my 970. I set it at medium settings 1080 off the bat and I am not getting any noticeable FPS drops. Made it to the 2nd city last night before going to bed but so far it is great.
yeah, it's sooooooo damn good

Currently watching Cohh's stream of it and it looks great. Maybe I have to rearrange my budget for the rest of the year after all :thinking-face:
same, i was going to wait with this one but it's looking really good so i might end up getting it for the weekend

I keep remaking my character because I'm not totally satisfied with how he looks. I'll give Spiders props for including a nice chunk of facial hair options (one of my biggest complaints in games), but some of them look too plasticy.

Has anyone figured out what the best starting skill is? Charisma? Lockpicking? Something else?

There were a ton of locked chests and doors in the intro town so I was kind of mad I didnt put a point in that first, however I didnt open the chests so I dont know how much worth it is. There are also multiple charisma checks in the quests so that could also be good. I think I put my point in Intuition since it said that was good for a mage but it has nothing to do with mages and gives a "bit more loot". I put my 2nd point in lockpicking :thinking-face:

The quests so far are doing a great job of contextualizing the world. Mechanically they are relatively simple but the story and writing are very solid. Just made it to the first non-city zone.

Seven hours in, I'm having way too much fun with the game. Guns are powerful but bullets are scarce, I found a big optional boss type enemy and ran out of bullets fighting it. Was a pretty cool fight too, and I'm glad I dropped down to normal now :D (would have been rekt to no end on hard).
I feel the opposite. It's been a smooth sailing for me so far on hard. I feel like ramping it up to extreme tonight and see how it goes.

Totally agree. I'm totally engrossed in consuming the lore and characters of this world.

Played for around an hour last night. I have restarted the game 4 times, as I wasn't completely satisfied with the way my character looked.

I decided to go for mage and I'm trying extreme difficulty. I couldn't bind anything to the Mouse 4 key, which was weird and I hope they'll fix it.

I also had the game crash on me at the beginning, so I updated the graphic drivers and didn't have that problem again.

I can't wait to go home tonight and play a bit more! :witchblob:

Milena I'm on my second and wondering whether to restart again tonight with some subtle changes. heh. They look fantastic in the creator but i need to work out what changes between the intro and in-game so i can compensate. Or i might just roll with what i have.

Yours looks very pretty!

But mine does as well in certain lights... not always, though. And that irks me a lot lol :frowning-face-with-open-mouth:
Also, maybe the looks I choose clash a bit with the voice, but I could get used to that.

I'll post a picture of my character tonight!

Some more thoughts:
  • Like people keep saying, the VA is solid, but the lip-sync is pretty rough.
  • I hate that I can’t seem to manually advance dialogue. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems like you have to sit through every line of dialogue you queue. Fine for story beats, a little annoying though when you’re just trying to read some of the background lore.
  • The movement has that floaty Eurojank™ feeling for sure. It’s not particularly terrible to control, but the narrow corridors of the first city area make it feel worse. Walking down stairs looks particularly hilarious.
  • There’s a nice variety of options in terms of going “against” the initial directions from a quest-giver. I’m mostly curious to see if any of my choices come back to bite me.
  • Stealth sucks, but it seems somewhat intentional to force you to interact with either the combat, crafting, conversation or disguise system.
  • The lore of the world is fairly interesting, even if it's being doled out in fairly small portions so far.
There's definitely a lot to like here.

You can skip dialogue line per line if that's what you mean. B with an Xbox controller.

So I did Siora's first companion quest regarding
her "missing" mother
, but she hasn't asked me to do more stuff yet, while I've already had a bunch of sections of Vasco and Kurt's quests appear. Am I missing something? Or just time to advance the story?

Did she say "...but you're busy, maybe later" or something like that?

If so, then you probably have another active companion quest and you need to complete it first.

Nah, whenever I talk to her, the only option I have is to talk about her dad. Based on some light googling, it looks like her quests require considerably more progress in the story than Kurt or Vasco?

I finally started today and before I knew it steam said I had spent 3 hours in the starting city and I still have the main quest to do there. It didn't feel like I had played that long so I guess that means I'm enjoying myself lol.

Also as I predicted after playing Elex about a month ago this game's combat system feels like dark souls caliber by comparison. It's nothing overly fancy I suppose but for a eurojank game it's far above what we usually get. On hard the few ruffians that have attacked me can do moderate damage but it seems simple enough to dodge or parry them, and guns feel really strong already.

Quests have been mechanically simple but I at least appreciate they've taken the time out to offer multiple solutions for different builds. It's not exactly New Vegas but it's already ahead of most games that call themselves RPGs. So many devs don't understand the role playing part of that name and what it means for gameplay.

Looks like an interesting game; I am still looking for a successor to Gothic 1, no game so far I have played was as engaging and captivating as G1.

28 hours so far (probably 24 hours minus all the idles), and I'm starting to run out of side quests outside of the checklists ones. I still have 3 active main quests though. It probably won't be as long as I imagined, I'm looking at 40 hours just like the devs stated.

What do i do with old equipment thst me or my companions no longer need? Sell them?
You can sell it or break it down into components once you get a high enough Craftmanship skill rating.

I just beat the game, 46 hours total, did all the side quests but one (finding reports side quest). Overall, the game was better than I expected (and I already expected something good). I was very satisfied with the ending I got (and the way the endings work made me feel like it was the ending I'd worked towards for the whole game, and not something that came out of left field).

Slightly offtopic, but beating the game in the way I did showed me that a few reviewers either didn't beat the game or did it in a way that went against what they said, since they specifically said you can't do a certain thing and I did it with no trouble at all (and I knew where I was going at least 10 hours before the end, so there's that too).

Tell us what this was that reviewers were talking about, and what you did. I'm interested.

It's a really big spoiler regarding the end of the game. I'll give you a hint:
it's got to do with the colonization theme of the game
That's what I figured, I'm curious how "wrong" they got it.

Guess I need to go finish the damn game lmfao.

They got it quite wrong, to be honest. Even the article that talked about the first 10 hours was wrong from my experience, since you start getting an idea of how the game will deal with it from the moment you step into New Serene.
