Edit: as for Atomfall's performance, I settled on a mix of mostly High and a couple Ultra settings (AA & textures) with everything except Tessellation enabled. That seems to give me 60fps everywhere so far, outdoor, indoor, combat, town. Tessellation caused some issues when I had like 5 enemies killed in the same exact spot as they came up a ladder, looking around the pile of corpses caused fps drops/stutters. Possibly a bug. Tessellation doesn't seem to do much in most of the assets (bricks or rocks or anything didn't seem to change anywhere I looked with it on and off), only when looking directly in on characters (well, the corpses I was testing on) they become ever so slightly smoother with it on. Unless I missed some other assets they majorly improve with it (in which case I'd like to turn it back on to not miss out on fancy details and choose other settings to reduce, or just max everything and settle for stable 30fps). Weird there's no performance/visual analysis videos that I can see (from the usual reputable sources) for it (or also The First Berserker: Khazan) yet to confirm any of this for sure.

Wake up babe a random indie game you've never heard of is blowing up on Steam again.

I think I know what Half-Life X/3 is. it's an Xtraction game !!

I do think we'll actually be getting Half Life 3 and it's going to be the final game in the Half Life series. Half Life 1 started development in 1996 which was almost 30 years ago. A lot of the early Valve devs who worked on it are going to be retiring soon. I think they'll want to finish up the series before retiring.

I don't think Valve really cares about that. I would expect they have some cool new idea. With Alyx it was VR, making the Half Life formula work in that new environment, and I do expect we will get some follow up to that. If this new Half Life game is indeed a non-VR title, then there must some other technical or software challenge that Valve is tackling. They don't make games to finish a series, the documentary has shown as much. GabeN openly said he does not think it's valuable to make a new game just for the sake of having a follow up. So I would not expect an iterative follow up to Half Life 2.

The only thing Valve can really do to blow people away with Half-Life 3 is graphics.

Just push the graphics to the extreme along with the physics and everything. Some great environments so the artists can show off the engine.

I really don't see what else an FPS game can do these days to stand out. And I don't think they will turn the game into some FPSRPG either so it is what it is. The genre is a relic at this point and even Doom Dark Ages just looks like wtvr. Most people are hyped for it because of gameplay and weapons.

But yea just finish the HL2 story...even if it is a short 10hr game. Some great set pieces and puzzles and boss fights. I think that would be good enough to satisfy longtime fans.

Afterwards move on to Portal and L4D.

It was smart for this solo dev to include a demo on the store page ‘cause I bought the game after like 30 min. Enough time to discover it’s far more complex than the box may suggest.

Feels adjacent to The Coin Game in structure & feel. Sandbox with lots of extra activities and a very tactile Wario-Ware vibe for performing tasks. Proper story leading the job sim elements.

Neat adds like an impressive character creator and even console cheat entries. It’s like there’s a lot of attention to detail on display even if it’s asset-engine threadbare.

Not gonna change the world or anything but for the micro-indie it feels surprisingly accomplished.

While yes pushing technology forward in some way is a major reason Valve releases new Half Life games there’s a wide variety of people working on the game including writers, some of whom will care about the story.

I really do think this game will end Gordon Freeman’s story. Obviously they could make more games in the Half Life universe if they want to.

Is there much to tell about "Gordon's story"? He has no character, deliberately and I doubt the threat from the Combine can really be dealt with in one game. The whole point is how humanity is messing with powers it does not understand and is now struggling to survive in the aftermath. They managed to briefly kick the Combine out (actually, not even that really, not yet), but the implication is that this will just buy them time for when the Combine really strike back. I suppose HL3 could have a time skip here, so we can jump forward to that interesting moment, but I suspect Valve is simply not interested in that kind of story. It will pick up where Episode 2 left off, go to some strange places, and then just stop again, like all other Half Life titles before it.

Anyone have this "issue" where after you have checked out a game page in your library and you leave the game page, the library skips/jumps up to the top?

Nintendo pushing 2 Directs in one week.

At least one of them should lead to a lot of Steam wishlisting.

Possibly both :sneaky:

Tho really I expect the Switch 2 direct to be full of ports for the big games that didn't get released on the first switch over the last 8 years.

Stuff like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring etc.

Is there a recommended way to quickly sell Steam trading cards? I have around 460 of them that I can sell. I was thinking I could add some money to my Steam Wallet.

lol
Its like people obsessed with GTA 6 etc
I like GTA its great whatever, i bought like 4 copies of gta 5

I don't care that much when its going to release to obsess over it day over day over day

Best thing that could happen with GTA6 is that Rockstar learned a lesson from RDR2 story telling. And GTA6 is as ambitious.

The trailer with the couple they showed looked interesting and serious for the most part so maybe they did.

Because GTAV was very dumb and weak. and forgettable.

But yea it is hard to get too hyped for a game like that because it is all aimless. There is only so much fun you can have running around doing dumb stuff in a pretty world. They need side activities and other cool things for it. Like the street races in GTAV were a ton of fun but it was very sparse.

The other concern is the singleplayer will get neglected in favor of some online stuff. That would probably kills the series for me.

Yeah this works, it's under Augmented Steam now

I need to do this. Does it work in Chrome on mac or does it need something else?

Yea I own every single version of GTA 5 on every platform but I don't have much hope in 6 because I worry about the online priority at the cost of a good campaign. Let's see. I'm still pissed RDR2 never got a PS5 / XSX upgrade. I adore RDR2.

Unpopular opinion

I’ve never been a big Nintendo guy, and my experience is limited, but I’ve got a Switch, and of what I’ve played Kirby Forgotten Land is better than any Mario game I’ve gotten to play so far

Certainly Kirby is a far more adorable mascot and you just wanna hug that happy little guy

I will not be taking any questions at this time :face-with-cold-sweat:

Personally, I don't give a shit about Rockstar games and have 0 interest in playing them. But I am not going to deny that they appeal to a lot of people.

On the other hand, I am a huge fan of the Metroidvania genre and I have to say that your description of Hollow Knight is like me saying "I don't know what GTA6 is going to do for open world games besides add more gangsters".
The only issue with this simile is that Hollow Knight, unlike GTA5, is a good game and not just a popular one :P

This is what I've been using for couple of years.
It's a userscript so you need Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey or maybe some other monkey. 🐒

I actually forgot that augmented steam has some selling options too, I should look at them at some point to see if it covers my needs.
