the slow mo perk and weapon wheel slow down really help a ton, i find myself frequently having brain farts where I just stare at my weapon wheel and can't decide which gun I should whip out against 3-4 different enemy types around the corner all going after my ass :p

the combat has quite a bit more tactical elements to it compared to other action shooters

You can unlock the full console with this cheat engine table:

Some fun commands:

g_enablePistol 1 - Unlocks a functional pistol that was cut from the game:

Bind F1 Toggle g_showhud
- Hud toggle hotkey, This also disables the hitmarkers which you can't do otherwise.

pm_thirdPerson 1 -
Enables thirdperson view. Muzzleflashes will look bad though.

hands_fovscale -
First person viewmodel fovscale, use small values like 0.9 to push the model further out.

r_TAAnumsubsamples -
Number of antialiasing samples, reduces blurriness without turning AA completely.

g_ammoscalar - max ammo modifier (2 means double the ammo)

At arc complex, man this game is so good, you feel like a god once you get the combat and level down.

Just finished slayer gate #4, that one doomhunter took forever for me because I keep having to kill small guys for health/ammos while trying to take down that damn shield.

Surprised at the praise for the super gore nest level was getting, I thought it was mostly just okay/straight forward, I've been enjoying all of the levels I've played so far though,

I'm enjoying the game but it's one of the most exhausting games I've ever played. The combination of extremely long levels that are almost non stop fast paced action and an over abundance of mostly unnecessary progression systems and secondary objectives/challenges makes it so I can only do 1 level per sitting. I'm seriously drained at that point. It's like overloading your brain with junk information after you've processed 2 hours of lightspeed action.
Gotta make ppl feel like their $60 for a SP game was worth it.

its kind of weird, I played Doom 2016 like 4 or 5 times but I don't see myself replaying this once lol. Maybe when the 2 dlcs will be out, and yet it was a really amazing game

For me it's the other way around. Only played 2016 once because the second half really felt like more of the same and I was getting kinda bored.

In Eternal however I already went back to previous levels to get all the collectibles and I'm definitely going to do another playthrough once the RTX update drops. Maybe I'll even try it on Nightmare difficulty not sure yet.

Finished gate 6, I used the bfg on gate 5 because I had trouble stunning the marauder, so I just nuked him twice and finish the rest, I know about the quick switch but it's still hard to pull off with a controller, and he seems to take quite a few blasts before going down, then there're also the other enemies distracting me :p

I could probably map weapon shortcuts to the left touch pad but I'm too lazy and it would still require me to lift my thumb to get to it, sucks for a game where you need to be moving all the time.

edit: oh guess just ballista alone is good enough against marauder to be defensive while doing enough damage.

I'm the same, really enjoying the game but always have to take a break after doing just one level. It's really intense, especially some of the slayer gates. I'm getting all the collectibles as well. The fast travel at the end is such a great thing for them as you know you're not going to miss any and can warp around to pick up any leftovers.

Yeah I've been enjoying every level. I thought 2016 was good too but at some point it feels like I've seen everything and I was doing the same thing, even though I tried to mix it up by switching weapons.

Eternal felt more dynamic with the encounters and the game kept it fresh with every level and I feel like it does a good job teaching the player how to take advantage of all the gameplay elements in the game, so after every fight I feel like I was getting better, even with some of the more corridor levels it's still ridiculously fun because of the new movement options. The game is just so much better than 2016 for me.

Also finished Nekravol 2 on the weekend, the last few levels were great, I find myself grinning most of the time when beating some of the encounters which is quite rare :p I think the last game I felt that way was playing through Bayonetta, it often just feels so ridiculous and fun.

the platforming can be improved but i thought they made exploration a bit more fun, i wonder if they could make climbing less clunky next game

I want the platforming to matter, not prolong levels with downtime. Connect levels to the hub with portals and reward reaching their end with skills/weapons, go back to levels with them to reach new areas and enable portals to yet more. Copy Powerslave except map = hub, done right it doesn't diminish the fps focus.

Though arenas can be complex and secrets sometimes hard to reach most levels are surprisingly linear so far (doing mission 10 currently). And Despite secret areas being a big part of the game, there isn't really much to explore because of it.
Personally, I prefer levels that are entwined and more complex like in Prey from a couple of years ago or even "The Foundry" from Doom 2016.

Meanwhile I started enjoying combat more, because all the mechanics started to come together for me. On the downside I no longer see normal enemies as a thread but as walking mario kart item boxes from which I can choose what I need: Armor & Health or Armor & Ammunition.

Quick DB shotgun and ballista switching was a very good tip btw. Marauders are way more manageable with that.

All the climbing and jumping... it's a bit overdone imo. As said, it makes levels look way more complex than they really are.
