News Epic Games Store

"We allow external payments, therefore Apple must allow too".

Yeah, I suppose that too.

I mean I guess it can be seen as legitimizing their store and their stance, but really anyone wanting to play these games are far more likely to just find them directly through Riot. Plus, it sounds like once installed, then you just get the Riot client and do not have to even venture onto the Epic Store to find the other titles, meaning even from Epic's perspective, it is likely a one and done. From the customer's perspective, you still have to download the game directly through Riot.

Just seems like posturing

The top sellers listed updated for the first time since October 27. Since their most recent promotion has ended, we can get a better gauge for "everyday" sales as discounted items won't be as high up on the top sellers list. Darkest Dungeon 2 is still #1 and Ubisoft is doing well with Riders Republic and Far Cry 6. In terms of multistore releases, Guardians of the Galaxy went from 16th place to 8th and Back 4 Blood dropped to 18th place from 13th place. Football Manager 2022 is not in the top 25 at all.

In terms of the most played list, Rocket League is still #1. Darkest Dungeon 2 is in 8th place.

Thanks as always for heads-up ^^

Metaverse as depicted in fantasy media just isn't happening (at least not any time in the foreseeable future for it to seem doable as things stand), we'll just get self contained completely separate per corporate entity that handles them worlds, networks & services as everyone wants a piece of the pie within their own ecosystem and really only uses the term metaverse because it's trending (or in a diff sense, it's already been here, i.e., the web and all you can do with it and how long people spend on it, from fb and insta and tiktok to calls and games or whatever else, adding an XR interface to do largely the same things, social or not, won't change the gist - you already got non-metaverse gaming wanting in on NFT, make money by playing, crypto etc. pyramid schemes, if money for virtual goods and services is really an important ingredient of the metaverse for some). So either way, Facebook made the term trend even though they got literally nothing to show for it (yet already making ads) and people are abusing it for all sorts of things, like the guy in the article above calling his crappy graphical MUD a metaverse, might as well call every MMO, GAAS or RecRoom/VRChat/Neos/Roblox thing (all MS/FB etc. show so far) a metaverse.

[HIDEPOSTS]I have asked an AI to summarize your post. No offense, it is something I do from time to time when there is a wall of text. 😅

I think it is funny. :toucan:
Sadly, I don't have a free access to OpenAI's GPT-3 anymore, so it is an old AI (Google, 2019). I am sure GPT-3 would have done much better.[/HIDEPOSTS]

It's a short paragraph, hardly a wall. Why tell me anyway if you really don't want to offend? The summary has part of the point but completely misses the intent about a real metaverse not happening and not being what specific companies are peddling despite calling it that, I guess, maybe it can be inferred in context...

[HIDEPOSTS]Right. I meant a long paragraph (8 lines) with few dots (2 dots if we don't count the dots in "i.e." and "etc."). I don't know how it is called, but you get the idea.

It is the perfect input for an AI, as there is nothing funny to expect from feeding short posts to it. In this case, I thought the summary was funny and not too bad.

I agree and I wish I still had access to a more potent AI to see what it captures from your post. :)

The FF7 Remake announcement will speed things up. :evilblob:

Nah, it will be a year wait, people are prepped for it. Plus honestly, after finishing it on my PS4, I can wait longer than a year before replaying it on PC.

Eh when it comes to FF7R I got Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, God of War, and Elden Ring to keep me busy. There will probably be additional surprises from Sony coming next year for 2022.

All in all FF7 R probably could move the needle a little. But that depends on Square's greed.

And since between EGS and the stupid price they manage to make almost no one care about Kingdom Hearts coming to PC, it is probably wise to never doubt their incompetence.

I mean, it's not like they know how to sell a game even when it's really good. Look a the current EGS banner for Guardians:

That's some great marketing and does not appear desperate at all :P

Standalone version of the 2013 Tiny Tina DLC for Borderlands 2 is currently free.

Edit:

I'm guessing the base game will probably be a freebie when it launches on EGS. Also there is cross-progression between Steam, EGS and Stadia of all things. I was reading up on their cross progression and apparently last year they were planning to have it include Switch, but it never materialized. I guess Nintendo wouldn't play ball.

The top sellers list updated for the first time since November 4. Battlefield 2042 appears to be doing well as it is currently #1. Ubisoft is also doing well with Far Cry 6 and Riders Republic in the top 5, and their Far Cry catalog titles also appearing throughout the list. For exclusives, Darkest Dungeon 2 drops from #1 to #7 and Kena is #9. In terms of other multistore releases, Jurassic World Evolution 2 is #5, Football Manager 2022 is #10 and Guardians of the Galaxy is #14. One game that didn't make the list was Let's Build a Zoo.

The most played list is actually quite a bit more interesting. Two Riot games enter the list: Valorant at #10 and League of Legends at #15. It seems like there is an audience that will play Riot titles via EGS. Also an interesting entry is Rise of the Tomb Raider which is in 22nd place. Amazon Prime has a promotion where you can get an EGS key for this game so it seems a lot of people are taking advantage of that.

Reason: I stopped feeling lazy and added some commentary.

I wonder who he would want to run this universal app store.

Does his "I’m very proud to stand up against these monopolies with you. I’m proud to stand with you and say I’m a Korean.” seem kinda gross and white privilege-y? Or am i reading too much into that statement

The korea bit is funny, Korea only did it to protect it's companies so some local company can get a shot instead of an american company controling the payment system.

Eh, but at least he's starting to say that consoles stores are the same.

I'm guessing Fall Guys is going to EGS relatively soon.

Mor, I think the best sellers are updating daily again too. I just checked on the store and the list had changed and Ruined King is #2. If that's the case, I won't bother posting updates since that would just amount to bumping this thread daily.

Ah, don't worry about that, it's not the case, they usually update when something is selling well or there is an extremely popular game just there, the reason why they updated twice this week is because ruined king debuted, it won't be daily :P

of course, do you think Square Enix will miss the opportunity to sell us the same again at full price?
As big of a Kingdom Hearts fanboi as I am, if Square puts them on Steam with the same prices... Let's just say that I've been waiting for so long that I can keep waiting some more until they're on a decent enough sale somewhere ¯\(ツ)

Has EGS been down for anyone else? I get 403 error on both client and website (in any browser).

Ever since Shenmue 3 topped the EGS top seller chart I have questioned it's legitimacy. We know the chart is manually controller. So either it's bullshit and just another way to do some promos for certain games or games are selling like complete shit, like BF2042 which is the second best seller there now. I mean for christs sake there are months old games on the list without a discount like KH3, Ark, Blands 3 etc.

I expect you Radiohead fans already know but in case you were feeling a bit too cheerful Radiohead have a thingy on EGS/Mac and PS5. Enjoy.

Darkest Dungeon 2 has really died on Twitch, for over a week now it has been lower than the first game.

No doubt matching the success of the first game is going to be very difficult for Red Hook and they're currently far far away from it, but it's also very limited in content at this point.

A beloved classic that you can sink hundreds (and some have thousands) of hours into retaining a viewer base while an early access game where after 10h you've kinda seen everything there is to see doesn't... shocking ;)

According to documents from the Apple trial, this was slated to be a free giveaway game last year. I'm surprised it didn't happen considering it would have been an easy way to build up an EGS userbase for Warhammer 3.

Some data might be outdated, or planning has changed for whatever reason.

Not surprising, they will probably work on the music events, creating minigames and such, past events were pretty boring (atleast from a spectator point of view), I'm more surprised they didn't integrated Fall Guys and Rocket League into Fortnite yet.

I forgot Fall Guys is Epic's now, damn.

I continue to be unimpressed that the direction the metaverse has taken is what if you could attend a concert, museum, or a meeting, but online?

It does not seem as much as the future that Epic (and Facebook) see it as. I think they see digital goods and merch as having the driving power to monetize these spaces, but I question the long term enthusiasm. Granted, I am out of touch of what folks want, so I am not the target audience.

The only way I see what they want as a "Metaverse" to work, is if we have a pandemic every year or so and we start to live year after year in lockdowns.

Their vision only works if we all got stuck on a dystopia.

Second Life already exists, and even if incredibly profitable at some point in time, the majority of people simply doesn't care for it.
