You mean gossip. leave the moronic 'fake news'-like rhetoric to EGS and their ilk, and stop twisting things just to satisfy your own prejudice.
The 2009 Ghostbusters game was delisted due to license years ago, the 2016 game was delisted on Jan. 30th this year, which IIRC is around the time that Acti usually drops licenses etc.
When you selectively quote my reply, it does make it look like im trying to push my own ideological bent. I was merely saying if Epic could take the credit, they would. In this case, they can't it's simply Activision's fault

The Shenmue comment section is up to 14 pages
I wonder when they made the Epic deal. Like back in the beginning when people thought it might be cool, or just recently when it was pretty obvious people would hate it. I wonder if they were offered a fat check and didn't care about the fallout, or if they had no idea it would be such a problem for people.

I bet the money is just so good it's hard to turn down, even if you have to piss everyone off in the process. I still can't believe Epic doesn't realize the damage their doing by forcing backers to use their service. That should have been the first thing that got fixed after the first deal was revealed.

Not much for me tg but Shenmue 3 hurts the most of any game yet. How much shit was needed for that game to happen already? SEGA's blessings, people's crowd funding, Sony pitching in, now Epic? I expected better Suzuki-san. I'll play this a year past the release on sale, I can't skip but I'll wait if you'll be like that.

I reinstalled 1 & 2 on Steam last night ffs. I feel like deleting it. Edit: did. I thought I could distance myself from the issue and objectively discuss. Until now.

But most importantly, in looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC, it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.
How can they actually post that? Please, Deep Silver, elaborate on that statement. How is EGS the most enjoyable experience on PC? Is there a feature of the EGS that makes it better? No? Fuck off.

Epic doesn't view it as damage though. Or if they do, that it's beneficial damage. Their whole deal is buying on developers, so they can also buy on their customers. The dumb thing for the devs though, is that it costs them the goodwill of their fanbase, divides them, and makes people feel like they are being taken advantage of. So I wonder how often the dev is just aloof to the backlash that awaits them, or if they really just want that short term cash and DGAF.

I also think that cash grab mentality might have always been the point of Shenmue 3. I didn't back it because it felt like such a weird thing to need a kickstarter over and it seemed shifty.

i would like to think that there is at least ONE person somewhere there that is thinking this was a mistake but then again when money is involved companies dont give a shit
Yeah, they really don't.
Since what they are getting is surely more than what they received from backers, they don't care.

The guys from Phoenix Point even had the nerve to say so themselves. Even if they refunded everyone, they would still be better financially, so they don't care.
Obviously, no one thinks about anything other than the short-term result.

Imho it has been a fairly recent thing.
Fuck, a week ago they sent an email with the system requirements saying that it required a Steam account.
A while ago they even made us choose for the reward to be on PS4 or Steam. :/

At least they are being honest and upfront about it, all they care about is money and you have to respect that to a degree. It's better than the typical bullshit other companies throw at us.
We have to respect it? Screw that!

I mean, if a guy came to you to steal your wallet, would you respect him more if he told you beforehand he was going to do it? ;)

Yeah that's interesting. That's a straight up sell out. Which is pretty inconsistent with what Kickstarters are for.

Considering the type of disingenuous discourse these devs/pubs usually throw at us when these types of deals are announced, I much prefer to read an honest answer even though I dislike the content of the message. Honesty is a respectable trait.

Well, to be fair they are being honest, because they are telling you they are being... dishonest? :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Different speech, same result.
I understand what you mean, but I can't possibly respect a developer who takes someone's money under a pretence, and then tells those same people that they are out of luck, someone came and offered them more. We hope you understand, guys. ;)

That's shitty. Suck it up and be happy with Epic's money rather than hold people's pledge for things you won't deliver (while releasing the game) hostage.

From ResetEra:

Absolute scumbags.
And we though the previous "big deal, we could refund everyone and it woudn't make a difference" from Phoenix Point was bad....

Well, this didn't save me the money of buying Shenmue 1 and 2 on Steam because I did that already in some sale, but it did spare me of the time playing them (never did before) so I don't become even more angry with this situation.

"Sorry, but f*ck you... no refunds".

Just woke up, I have to say this show wasn't so bad. No game I cared about, but Dontnod hurts. I've been rooting for them since Remember Me, they will have to do without me and others now.

What Yu Suzuki and Deep Silver did for Shenmu III is one of the most galling, outrageous and greedy move the gaming industry has ever seen. I mean check the history :
  • They rode Sony's E3, gaining a publicity most kickstarter and indies can only dream about
  • They had a massive Kickstarter success and secured a publisher
  • They promised Steam keys and even sent a poll to that effect a while ago
Kickstarter is based on an ideal and goodwill, they wouldn't exist without those. It shows their true character when they then take the most cynical and toxic choice possible with exclusivity on a fucking open platform. They turned their backs on the people who supported them and they did so without a shred of remorse or hesitation given the tone of their recent communication. To paraphrase it :

"No, you don't get refunds. This is how it is. Fuck you."

I don't know if it's a Japanese idea to sound so unapologetic and authoritarian when you are so much in the wrong but it's not going to do wonders for them.

Has the press said anything yet about this or the impact Epic has on kickstarter which is, you know, the seedbed of most indies, gaming innovation and triumphs since 2012?

I think Epic paid them so much money that they don't care about pissing off their backers, we don't matter anymore. They have what they want, and we can all go pound sand for all they care.

Honestly, this entire deal feels like Epic twisting a knife in on Steam and the PC Playerbase just to be spiteful. Shenmue III is going to bomb big time on the EGS. The Fortnite kids won't touch it with a 10 foot pole, and anyone who was ever interested in it in the first place probably backed the Kickstarter. This is Sweeny saying "Fuck you, you don't like EGS, well you're going to fucking use it whether you like it or not." And I'm sure he paid a mint to make sure of that. He needed a big WIN after Microsoft basically made them look like idiots the last 2 weeks, but I'm really not sure this is the type of win that's going to get them anywhere.

Whatever the case, I'll probably end up deleting the email with the EGS key. I know that sounds petty, but I refuse to be strong-armed into doing something that I'm 100% against.

I'll tell you this though. I've backed almost 50 projects on Kickstarter over the last 5-6 years, and I'm done. Never again. I don't care if that means some amazing games may never see the light of day now. I will not risk a penny of my money going to support the EGS.
