I want the Devs to feel good and be less stressful when they are doing their job.
It almost always makes their product better.
well juding by last few years on social media ..... aboslutely everything makes them stressed and "too much work" inlucding the nonimportant stuf like marketing, setting up storepage, developing , not developing and like living itself

Well, in my case, I made my mind up about inevitability of Epic store long ago and count exclusives that head their way as effectively dead without getting worked up about it. If devs cannot handle all the negative attention, they can instead drown in pure apathy. :shrugblob:

^^^ The biggest breakthrough for me was realizing that I simply don't have enough time to enjoy the Steam titles I actually own, let alone timed exclusives on EGS.

Sure, some of 'em sting (Outer Wilds, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw). But once I dawned on me that I'd still have a backlog longer than my arm, with or without EGS, the whole Exclusives!!! (tm.) deal became a non-issue for me.

Perhaps I'll get to 'em at some point. Maybe not if the moment has passed (see: Borderlands 3). I'm good either way.

yeah, exactly ... the worst period was the first year ... after that we'll be getting all those games we had to wait for anyway .... sure, they might be on steam 12 months later ... but they've already started coming, so it stings a bit less (even with new egsclusives announced)

This has been a positive thing about the EGS -- it can be so hard to ignore hype. If there hadn't been an exclusivity period for Outer Worlds, for example, I would have bought it day one. Turns out that it wasn't that great of a game, though, so not only did I save money, but I didn't waste any time or feel disappointed by something astronomically hyped that was just ok in the end. Thanks, EGS!

I wonder if "it's just another launcher" people realizes how dumb it sounds it context of exclusives.

If Steam is just another launcher and EGS is just another launcher, then Epic don't need to pay devs/pubs to delay the Steam release of their games, people will just buy where the game is cheapest, it's just another launcher after all.

"Just another launcher" just diminishes the point of exclusives.

Epic actually knows Steam is not "just another launcher" or they wouldn't have payed for exclusives, they would just have done coupons, but the free giveaways, coupons and exclusives shows that Epic do not view Steam as "just another launcher".

Certainly sounds like hyperbole to some, but xinek is correct. I doged the bullets that were Phoenix Point and Mechwarrior 5 thanks to the EGS.

There are some good games on the EGS, but the amount of disappointments is surprisingly high for a curated store.

Having to lock into a Bethesda Account on switch to play doom 1 + 2 was the end of the world for the console focused press.

But having to use another launcher just a milde inconvenience that PC players are making an unnecessary amount of noise about.

They don't effing care because the only thing they want is to play this fresh new game. Stupid FOMO like mentality which is the very thing video game companies exploit to milk them and make the gaming environment worse for the rest of us.

Anything evil, stupid, immoral and/or anti consumer practice that happened or will happens is because there are these lots of idiots or naive people ready to sell Manhattan for a few shiny beads. And this harms the freedom of the PC ecosystem but they don't care.

They selfishly don't give a dime.

EA came back after years of not being there and probably seeing their PC marketshare stagnate while everyone else saw an increase. That and being able to sell EA Access in Steam.
Ubisoft will at least give it a 2 year try to the uPlay exclusivity, before even thinking of coming back.

Publishers are probably quick to come back to Steam because at some point they realised that the imaginary people that EGS provided with sales guarantee don't buy DLC.
And microtransactions.

The main revenues of the big publishers are microtransactions and other digital transactions. EGS may be able to guarantee XX number of sales, but if the actual players are pretty low, there will be no more revenue after the initial sales.

Everyone comes back, because it's leaving money on the table if they don't.

The only one stubborn enough to not return is Activision with their flagship games, like Call of Duty. They'd rather watch their prime IP wither and die along with Blizzard's reputation than try and reinvigorate it on PC. It wouldn't be the first time that Activision has sabotaged key IP and refused to change course because of hubris.

I do not see Uplay returning anytime soon as well. As eonden said: They'll rather try to make uplay+ happen. The emphasize is on try, because I do not see that thing taking off.

About DLC:

I wonder how going EGS exclusive in combination with offering Metro on Game Pass played out for Deep Silver.
Loosing DLC sales because of epic is one thing, but what about game pass? I would never buy DLC for a rented game, but I had a DICE dev tell me that I just should do it, play through the content and then get on with my life. What's the big deal? And that response baffled me a bit tbh.
Are people actually buying DLC for Game Pass games? Sounds to me like buying new tiers for my rented car.

I think microtransactions, which are just as ephemeral as a rented game, would probably be more successful in a Game Pass-like situation.

I'd never buy a DLC for a game I didn't own, especially when those games rotate in and out of the Game Pass lineup. Seems really dumb to me. Unless the plan was to buy the game down the line on the platform that I was renting it from. Then again, I say that, but how many games on Game Pass will I actually purchase on Xbox? Probably none. I just don't buy many games in Microsoft's ecosystem.

As I understand, per the talk they gave at GDC last year, they have a page where devs submit the game files, just like the unreal asset store, the prosses of uploading the files to the store should be automated as of the end of last year, but we all know that when comes to this kind of stuff, EGS is way behind of schedule.

Also about mtx, you have to consider that Epic will let developers put their own mtx methods without taking a cut, that would mean that all big publishers (who already have their own mtx methods) will not give Epic anything from it.

I was suspecting that this guy was liberal if it is in his interests to be so but he turns out to be exactly what a real dumb right wing supporter is (not all right wing supporters are dumb ofc).
Here's to anyone that cheers for him lol congrats people.

Its so funny how Sweeney is mad at Android, iOS and Steam for being successful. He was so late to the party with EGS/Fortnite and now can't compete for shit.

All those stores were established back when his company was still fumbling around with Unreal Tournament. And now in 2020 he is out here acting like he can tell them what to do. His game made a billion in a year while Apple brings in like 60billion every quarter. Like they give a shit what he thinks.

Aww yiss, the journos will be so conflicted, do we suck tim's cock and show we're all clickbait talk and don't actually believe the shit we write or attack that?

Probably just pretend it didn't happen, for many of them.
Haha yes this is so sweet, Tim going all Gamer™ after journos been calling everyone anti EGS for whiny gamers.

Nothing says "respecting gamer rights" like taking choices away from them and forcing them to use a service that they vehemently dislike or have to wait even longer for games they were looking forward to. Tim's truly a man of the people.

Haha! Oh fuck, this is great. I'd bust out the popcorn to watch all his supporters backtrack on backing EGS because of Command-In-Chief Timmy's views, but I blocked all those assholes and left other forums a long time ago.
