Uh, this absolutely might just be me, but this site keeps giving me warning popups from MalwareBytes about it blocking website connections due to spyware?
Yeah, as Monooboe hinted, the site that it is complaining about ( u . c u b e u p l o a d . c o m ) is in the image on the post of itsamiracle on the previous page. I didn't get any warning here but nevertheless it doesn't appear to be a domain the forum itself is calling.

I guess they mean your average PS2 lower budget game, not some Capcom/Konami AAA title :p

Check more from that channel, cool stuff like a what if Hotline Miami was a dodgy PS1 3D game thing (video only).

Or this other PS1 style game he's making!

Hektor Here are some thoughts on the Epic document, question by question. I would recommend going full FAQ with this, phrasing every entry as a question. For example, the first entry's title would be something like "It's just another icon, what's the problem?" Anyway, let's go

It's just another icon
On top of what you already wrote I would add that there are multiple issues with Epic's strategy. First and foremost for many people is the issue of Epic using tactics that go against the nature of the PC as an open and customer-friendly platform. Second is the issue that Epic is making aggressive moves to actively limit or completely shut out competition from many other stores besides Steam. Third is the undeniable fact that Epic's launcher is lagging far behind the competition in terms of features and policies.

Valve exclusives
Nothing to add, you already completely covered this.

Valve first party
Same, thoroughly covered.

Exclusive deals on console
We need to be careful about this because some console gamers are a bit touchy and they might consider this explained difference between console and PC as a "PC master race vs console peasants" thing. I would suggest that we focus instead on the fact that Epic's moneyhatting is similar to the Microsoft Tomb Raider situation that many console players were also very angry at. Epic isn't paying money to create something new and bring it to market, instead they're paying to remove a game that was already coming to multiple other storefronts and create fake 'value' for their inferior platform.

Valve needs competition
Perfect.

Epic can't compete on features
In addition to what you already wrote, I would write that Epic has completely neglected to bring anything new to market and introduce unique features that could draw people in even if the store was lacking in other things. For instance, GOG is offering DRM-free games and they do work to ensure that old games run properly on modern systems. Uplay has its point system that gives various rewards to customers. Green Man Gaming used to allow the resale of digital games. Humble Bundle, Fanatical, Indie Gala and others are doing bundles, Origin offers the EA access service, Epic's Game Store offers absolutely nothing.

Epic will have features soon
I would add that Valve has been doing work that improves the PC gaming platform as a whole, not just Steam. Stuff like Steam Input and Steam Proton, even Steam Big Picture Mode, are way beyond anyone else has ever attempted in the PC space. Even if Epic adds features over time, there is no indication that they have bigger plans for the platform.

Epic moneyhatting
I would add the admission from the Satisfactory developers as well as Julian Gollop's quote that they were paid in advance for a guaranteed number of minimum sales.

Trickle-down Sweeneynomics
I would point out the obvious oxymoron in defending Epic's policies by simultaneously using the argument that "developers get more money and that's a good thing" AND the argument that "developers will pass on the savings to customers". Both can't happen at the same time. I would also point out again that Epic cutting out competition from other storefronts actually increased prices for these games since retailers are unable to offer discounts from their own cut.

Key resellers
Nothing to add, very well put.

The rest of the questions are also important. I would add at least one more, the dreaded "competition is good" and explain that competition is actually good when it is customer-focused and results in better products and services for customers. Corporate competition is not only irrelevant to customers but it can also damage the platform itself. Also, we should mention the fact that Epic's 12% cut is razor-thin and perhaps not sustainable in the long run. No need to reference retail cards, Sweeney already admitted that using some payment methods puts Epic in the red.

Has anyone tried Below? It's 25% off on Steam, I was so hyped when it released but the reviews are mixed so I don't know what to think of it.
In short, great looking and really interesting game that had some frustrating mechanics that put me off. I haven't gone back since... but i probably will.... just not yet. Have a look at the reviews as i suspect many negative ones are from people who were hoping for a more relaxed experience exploring and puzzling on a lonely island and didn't expect the survival elements to be so harsh. Some people love that stuff though.

I got it at launch and the atmosphere and aesthetics are fantastic. There's environmental puzzles and mechanics which you have to work out by experimenting as it doesn't explain much but i love that kind of thing. It felt fine to control though the combat could get a little awkward and there's some environmental hazards you need to keep an eye out for. However, what put me off was the corpse run to get back and collect your items as if you died in a tough place then it was no fun. The survival elements are pretty strong too so you'd end up farming for resources on the surface before trying to go deeper again. I see that later patches changed it so the essential item you need to progress returns to the start area when you die which stops the corpse run loop being so important.

It needs some survival elements to keep pushing you along but i'd love an explorer mode that toned that stuff down a bit. It's almost there for me but i'd be tempted to look for CE Tables if i play it again to take the edge off things.

I'd love to know how they thought of it's reception, if the harshness was by design from the start or if they thought they may have not communicated what the game was like in trailers etc?

No Humble monthly leak? Was hoping for one.

Only interested in Mutant, but not enough to pick up the monthly.

Four games of 7 or 8 are already revealed. I bet the others aren't much interesting than those already revealed
Probably. But knowing my luck, the other reveals will be games high in my wishlist

Got to the hidden forest in sekiro, this map is trash, just a bunch of reused low level fodder enemies that are hard to see with fog all over the place, gonna play when I have more patience (and more time so I'm not rushing through things).

Also not a fan of the headless minibosses, tried them a few times and was annoyed I need to use items to make the fights less annoying so I decided to skip them for now

Updated the document. It's now 9 pages long

Alexandros as you can see I have separated the point about Epic games exclusive strategy from the point about the quality of the epic store itself, since I'd see those as tangent but different things.
Fantastic work! I really like how the answers are phrased, not confrontational and very matter-of-fact. I can't think of anything more to add right now, I think you covered pretty much everything.

So first of all good job and it's sound and informative buuuut for who exactly is it?
I have a feeling that people who will read it are already more or less informed and it will not reach people who obviously have an agenda.

I mean, those "journalists" that are obviously not bought won't read this and say "oh, i see, i was wrong with my assumptions! the steam zealots are not all alt-right leaning all of a sudden and steam has a few good features that epic obviously lacks!"; they will still post shitty articles about how bad and toxic steam and valve are and epic is just doing business!
Forum and twitter trolls you'll never see in PC threads won't read this and say "oh i had the wrong information! sorry for the hubbub!"; they will still play on their consoles and troll where they can.
And those few Rickenponys that are out there won't read this and say "Yeah you have a point, i'll join with you to inform the uninformed"; they still will be silent and just say to themselves "meh, i don't give a f and you all are toxic as hell".

but maybe i'm just being negative and in a bubble, maybe there are more really uninformed out there and it's a great idea.

I will use all the leverage and influence I can to get our game on Valve’s store as soon as reasonably possible. No promises
It does sound like the exclusivity duration would be decreased to... maybe... "as soon as reasonably possible". :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

It's for the people who enter Era threads about Epic pretending to be ignorant on the matter and derailing these threads by 'just asking questions'. The idea is to funnel these people to a separate thread so that they have no excuse to shit up the rest.

Oh no, I sure do hope Epic doesn't buy exclusivity for Serious Sam 4.

Please Tim, I beg of you.
i think croteam would be silly to do that with the whole fusion thing and how much work they put into fusion, ( its a single launcher for all serious sam main line games and is future proof for ss4)

I went back into time to look at the old 2013 Steam thread. Whew boy, they couldn't handle the Blands 2 truth coming from Bus. Game of the Generation they said.

Btw, we gotta bring back Blands.

I was wondering, if a dev is paid on sales and his publisher put the game on EGS, the publisher takes the moneyhat and have less to pay the dev, win-win.
