I love Dark Souls, but those games are. way. too. long..... Never got passed Anor Londo in DS1 even though I've played countless hours.
DS1 I've got 50+ hours and I'm halfway through perhaps?

They are great indeed, but too freaking long.
They sure are. Once one replays (dies countless times) certain areas, it gets a bit harder too.
Calling all commanders! Experience the whole new Fleet Carriers in the PC beta on April 7.
Easy Day Studios' Skater XL will be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in July 2020.

I picked it up. What games are you looking for from it? A fair amount were dupes for me.
Agents of Mayhem
Darksiders 1 and 2
Rebuild 3
Superhot

I think those are the most interesting ones from my point of view.

I've been craving Fallout and didn't want to replay 4... BUT I just realized I had the season pass for it and haven't even tried the latest big content thing they released! Fuck yeah.

Also, will get Fallout 76 from cdkeys, so hope it works getting it on steam then! They say one just have to link accounts... BUT they also mention that one has to have bought the game from the launcher.

It's also a huge problem in the Souls fandom, because people constantly misconstrue tedium as challenge which is not true, but "difficult" games have been making "lost time" as extra punishment for so long it's just expected. Furi, Thumper, Hard West, Sekiro, tons of games just add wastes of time to your fail states for no actual reason.
I agree with your post but this part resonated with me in particular. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing tedium and "punishment" as a cheap and hard to justify design decision. Mechanical difficulty, reading the boss, creativity, all of these are interesting aspects. Having to redo something over and over again with no player engagement involved, just to make the victory "meaningful" is abusive toward the player in my opinion and a failing at every level of design.

I can't see a single positive side to tedium that superior design couldn't achieve. It's cheap.

There's so much I'd criticize about From's games but I don't want to turn this thread into a ranting quagmire. I'm just glad I'm not the only one to have an issue with them :).
To be honest, I can see the purpose of these "time-wastes" in certain circumstances. Although, I'm not really fond of calling it "time-waste" since playing games is a pastime already and "time-waste" isn't really much of a critique, but still I see what you mean.

Without some of these sacrifices though a win won't be as substantial. In this particular case I'm thinking of games like Souls or even Battle Royale games such as PUBG or Fortnite where defeat isn't necessarily a fail state but a part of progress. I can even say that some of my favorite moments in Souls and PUBG are during matches/sessions where I end up dying/losing, so to me it isn't as simple as death = waste of time.

Having played The Witcher 3 recently, I gotta say having to re-loot a section + re-do all inventory management after dying can be frustrating as hell. It's one thing having to run back and restart a boss, but all the micro-management is really frustrating to do all over again. :notlikethisblob:

"but it's just another launcher"

fucking bullshit is what it is

was just gonna try some CoD MW. maybe it's a sign I should delete those 160 gbs.

Is that just to get access to the launcher and not even to access games?

Wow well if I was still interested in Call of Duty and wanted to get MW2 remastered. I would be very pissed with Activision Blizzard.

Aren't Activision Blizzard the same company and if so what is MW2 times exclusive on PS4? I mean they own Battle.net don't they? Or does PC mean just mean that little to them/Sony was willing to pay that much?

I'm generally all in favour of shorter games, but I never felt like Dark Souls games have padding.
They all have sufficient content to justify their length.

Blizzard Launcher .... holy shit. So I've never used it for anything. Is that just for CoD and other online stuff? Let's say I bought Starcraft 2 and just wanted to play single player. Do I have to connect to bnet every time? And does that mean I could be put in an hours long queue for single player?

Yeah, I think we kind of see eye to eye here mostly. It's really the repetitive, pointless things that get to me in these games. For instance in Hollow Knight, there is a walk back to a boss that is simply empty space, just for the sake of taking time. It's like... What's with these games and not allowing to retry bosses instantly? HLD did that, and it's one of the most challenging games I've ever played. Are they averse to the idea of not wasting the player's time and having some quality of life? :p

Now checkpoint-based exploration, I can get behind, because it's about pushing a little further every time and it'd be even better with an element of procedural generation between deaths.

Yeah, for sure. I haven't played Hollow Knight so I can't comment on that specifically, but that part does sound tedious!

Welp good to know. Scratch that then. I often have to play offline.

Since all I do now is talk about Hollow Knight ... there's several parts like that, but I thought it was to convey a sort of vastness in a 2d game. Or a Super Mario Bros style long hallway to the boss to make it seem like shit was about to happen. I mean, Hollow Knight still allows you the ability to fly through those areas and traverse them in seconds. Where I really had problems was when you had to travel through a tough area to retry a boss 20 times (or more), like for Hive Knight or Traitor Lord. That was bullshit. There is a way to warp of course, but I didn't nearly have that ability at the time. I think Hollow Knight in general is a great example of a hard game that doesn't waste your time much at all.

That was before having that ability (which has one of the best build-ups/anticipation ever, actually demonstrated mastery of one of the principles of animation, but I digress). But we agree on the principle of the matter regarding wasted time anyway :p.

So.... Steam Controller V2 codename might be neptune, huh? madjoki

Also, Steam coupons might be getting a few changes (at least in the number of categories)
I'm hoping for a reveal soon. I want one.

BTW, did Valve ever upload a video of the GDC talk that they were going to give? I remember someone from Valve saying that they would.

I favour shorter games too, usually I dont have time for longer ones... and even if I do, I dont usually feel like playing long, padded-out games anymore, unless one really grabs me, like HZD did. But speaking about Dark Souls, no idea how padded out that is, since I also dont like the Souls-like formula very much... alongside roguelikes, metroidvanias, strategy games, anything turn-based, most multiplayer games, survivalcraft games, JRPGs, racing and sports, and wow I really dont like a lot of games ;)

I mean It looks exactly like the first one but they put a 2 on it
Reading the changes on the store page doesn't make it sound that impressive over the first one but I guess I'm being cynical Lol
well the art style is completely different ... i guess? :p

Valve to acquire the Neptunia IP?

I am currently having an issue with my Xbox 360. Does anyone know if there is a way to connect a Xbox 360 to external speakers either via Bluetooth or via 3.5 AUX? My Monitor speakers suck and the music in Nier G is really suffering because of it.

There are work arounds for GTA V and not needing the Rockstar client isn't there?

My sister ended up buying a key for GTA V from Gamestop and didn't know that it was for the Rockstar Launcher. I was telling here that I was contecting Gamestop to ask them about that. Now she is mad at me because I didn't tell her something like the Rockstar Launcher sucks and how it would be better to just buy the game on Steam.

I had planned to buy GTA V earlier this week since it was only $15USD on Steam but decided not to since I already have other games that I am buying and stuff like that.

I love GTA5. It's worth $15 just to run over pedestrians with a helicopter.

Also tell your sister it's just another launcher and that is the future and she needs to get on board or be left behind in the bad, bad past.

I agree but since I am currently without a job and I don' t know when I will be getting my unemployment now is not the best time to buy games for me
You're the last holdout. The last person on earth that doesn't have GTA5. Chose to buy food and TP instead.
