Why the fuck do I need to make a Larian account now
If you're talking about BG3, try skipping their launcher if you haven't already ( insert --skip-launcher into launch parameters )
It's odd you'd only see this now, a quick search showed people being annoyed about it a couple years ago already. Some people claim there's an option to just skip account creation, others claim that's not there. Dunno what's true

I've gotten six different people so far that have pinged me of this port's existence today, and based on some old tweets from one of the Ghostlight community managers, I'm not shocked that this was indeed the game they were porting. That said, I'm extremely skeptical after the second game's PC release, and Ghostlight's consistently mediocre track record with PC releases (Setting aside the 10 minute minigame that can be completely avoided, and sadly was the only point of contention that Steam forum users had).

[...]
Great post.

I actively avoided buying the second game even though I thought the first one was decent because the ports are so shit-tier. That's something I only do extremely rarely. They also completely break in various ways on Linux of course, and have specific workarounds in DXVK because their rendering should never actually work at all.

For anyone who wants to play a JRPG-y dungeon crawler, I would suggest Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk and its sequel instead. Those are good games, and while the PC ports aren't outstanding, they are certainly competent, which is sadly far more than can be said for Mary Skelter.

I’ve been reading more about what Nintendo did to Gary Bowser.

It’s not a good look, to put it gently.

I feel grubby having bought the 2x game vouchers for £84 to get Tears of the Kingdom. I’m not even sure if I’ll play the game - it might feel like a tainted experience for me.

One thing is clear, though. I think that’s it for me buying Nintendo stuff.

Companies are shitty and there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that, but for me personally, supporting Nintendo going forward just feels icky.

Like, this isn’t some abstract exploitation or some sort of side effect. Nintendo, and people working for Nintendo, have specifically gone out of their way to give one man a life sentence of poverty.

It’s incredibly mean-spirited and feels like a cruel and unusual punishment.
I mean, Valve baited the guy who stole the code for HL2 into traveling to the US with a promise of a job offering and he would be rotting in prison if the German authorities didn't step in.

Not defending Nintendo, obviously it's an extremely shitty thing to do and shouldn't be allowed to do that, but yeah, all companies would kick puppies if that made them more profits.

Please don't be buttcheeks
It's been a long while since I got a game on it's release day. Quite curious how my PC will handle this one and if Respawn can keep the game as fun and interesting as the original.
Also curious if the performance will be good enough or it's going to be stuttering all over. I have my tried and true solution in place if needed

Nintendo can get fucked. It's one thing to give out a punishment, but that punishment is actually mean.

My experience with TotK will depend on how quickly it is released in pirate sites and how well it will run in the launch week on Ryu/Yuzu.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition got Steam Cards out of the blue

I know this because I've played through it multiple times over the years now and its never had cards and now I have a shitload of cards all of a sudden and its got a badge

It also has stuff in the points shop, with most of the things making absolutely no sense to me because instead of being cool main characters or like side characters its like... random ass "IM A DWAR.EMOTICON!" "IM AN ELF.EMOTICON"

I thought itch.io was supposed to be this indie paradise but now its apparently steam lol

well well well

THough to be honest the only time ive mostly cared about stuff on itch.io was the super bundles for charity or a dev giving me a steam key when purchasing a game.
So i would give them more money AND get a steam key so I was like..

The Ally is totally going to be $999.99
Yea at first the rumored price was around the highest end Deck model price. And now they are bringing up numbers like 1000$.

Its probably gonna be like 800$ at the cheapest. As interesting as the specs are its still way too much compared to the Deck. They really need to do a model without the 1080p screen. That thing is most likely pushing an extra 150-200$ on the device total. Maybe there aren't screens out there that do 720p 120hz so its good that they are ambitious but still...that screen will just kill battery life and price a lot of people out.

I can't wait to see the benchmarks tho I hope people publish a lot of comparisons with Deck at different resolutions etc. Its gonna be a good indicator to see how the future of this market will go in the coming years.

This new age of puritanism is seriously annoying, especially when it can hit an any time for whatever reason. Developers' livings should not be put in danger just because a bank or paypal feels offended. Market and consumers are the only thing that should speak when talking about a product, even if it's porn
And yes I'm talking about you too Valve with your random game bans. Why does no site ever tries to look into this or try to defend developers in this case but are too happy to post about some random idiocy of the day?

Well I know why but still...

Looks like the UK CMA have blocked Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.

Pretty shocking, actually. I thought it would go through.

While I’m against consolidation, ActiBlizz is looking to sell. Who else can possibly buy them?

Considering how much MS tried to woo the CMA by striking deals with cloud companies, I'm extremely surprised. As the FTC was already trying to block the deal in the US, it could very well be dead in the water. So much for Diablo 4 on Steam. :crying-face:

RIP indeed. But MS are hardly trustworthy in the long term. Them releasing games on Steam feels like a stepping-stone to doing their own thing, unless they significantly roll back their gaming ambitions in the future.

What’s bizarre is that the CMA used cloud gaming as the reason, which is hilarious because that’s a dead-end market in my view. There’s no competition to be had because it’s expensive, shit, and littered with failures.

I think MS games will come to Steam as long as Gabe is running Valve due to his connections with Microsoft. Will MS continue putting their games on Steam after Gabe retires/dies? Who knows, but hopefully that's far into the future.

The cloud aspect is weird. I get it's an emergent market, but I think regulators are putting too much stock into it. Maybe we'll all stream our games from the cloud in 20-30 years, but speaking as an American, I'm still dealing with a monthly ISP data cap and I can't stream nonstop without overage fees. Also cloud gaming simply isn't as high quality as locally installed games and may never get to that point due to technological limitations. It's a cute novelty to play Xbox cloud games on my Steam Deck, but I'd rather play them directly from the device if possible.

I'm not expecting good things from the VRAM side of the 4060 Ti if the rumored specs are true (8GB of VRAM, 128 bit bus width, same memory bandwidth as the 1660 Ti).

I'd still expect MS to get them if they appeal, but otherwise, my guess would be a sovereign wealth fund (probably one of the middle-east countries, like Saudi Arabia).

Yeah, either the Saudis or a CCP puppet, which will be wonderful for the industry.

Something I noticed with Mary Skelter 2's port is that the Mary Skelter 1 PC port they use in the 2 port uses lower quality art assets than the ones in the original Mary Skelter 1 PC port

I don't understand how this happens when they already had higher quality assets to work with.

I was delighted that they added an external patch to restore the mini games but there's still so much wrong with these ports.

Surely MS has to now pledge to release all of their games on as many stores that want them.
Like Minecraft and blizzard games on Steam.

right?

Jedi Survivor reviews are up. It's looking pretty good.

Anyone else here who just...don't care about the acquisition? :p
I cared insomuch that I wanted Blizzard games on Steam. Otherwise I'm just here for the drama.

Blizzard on Steam would have been nice, even if I had to rebuy all my stuff on BattleNet.

Game is coming in rather hot, expect bad performance on PC until a few patches in:

Jedi: Survivor is fantastic if you have the hardware to run it; but the game is in a bad state as of right now. It has a major CPU bottleneck in the main hub particularly and there were spots at max settings when I would see VRAM spike as high as 17GB being utilized.
