Every time a read about some news (usually bad, in this case a bad new patch) about Star Citizen I cry a little inside....
As an outsider, it's a fascinating tale of project management.
How is the roadmap to a roadmap coming? Or the bartender AI?

Yeah. Speaking of Karmen Rider, I started 555 yesterday after writing that post. Damn, this show is nightmare fuel.
Damn, that reminds me of how when I was less than ten the French TV broadcasted Space Sheriff Gavan. Loved it. Then as they got out of episodes they followed it with the first 6-7 episodes of Sharivan.
Boy ! Was I not prepared for the tone change. I still recall the protag being trapped in a narrow corridor with fucking arms coming out of the walls.

I would rewatch that and educate myself on Kamen Rider if right holders weren’t that stupid. It’s not even a question of legality, the mere thought of finding these show in good quality is exhausting.

1. Forza 7 will be delisted but you can still buy it now, the ultimate edition is on sale for $20 but that ends in a few days.

2. The Lego games are on sale, this may be the last time they Are on sale. I don't have proof or anything but seeing how WB has been sold and how the Lego games are licensed, this might be the best time to buy them before they are no longer sold at all type of stuff.

I sometimes just want to smash my head against a wall repeatedly when seeing some console threads.

"Indies won't have as much success on Steam Deck as on Switch, there won't be any smash hits like the Switch made possible."
Where is this thread at (DM?)

But yeah thats really dumb seeing how there have been indies on Steam that have sold over (5 million copies......) But I don't think we have heard anything like "X indie game that is a N/S exclusive, has now sold over 8 million copies in it's first 6 months......" (Didn't Velheim sell over 6 million on Steam In less than 3 months?)
Sorry for being selfish but would some one be kind enough to provide a link/break down of the current Lego games on sale right now on Steam since I want to buy all the DLC abd stuff that is also on sale to save as much money as possible type of thing (I really should have gotten those Lego Humble Bundles)

Minecraft says hello. And pretty much all the other indies that made it big the last 10 years or so.

EDIT: Granted, Minecraft isn't on Steam. But it originated on PC, which was my point.

Just saw this in the Payday 2 news hub

Payday devs said:
To ... unlock the awesome anniversary outfit you need active telemetry tracking.

Console gamers should stfu. They just prop up indie games when it's convenient to do so. Sony ponies rallied behind them only because there weren't releasing on Xbox. Nintendo fans bought them cause there weren't many games available when Switch launched. And Xbox players love their Gamepass fodder

Just read through that Deck thread. Had to walk away before my blood pressure exploded.

First thing that annoys me about console gamers talking about the deck is the work on the principle it is some separate entity console. No, it’s a PC. It’s a PC that has a different form factor. So if indies sell well on PC they can only sell well on Deck. Unless Valve introduce a separate sales chart there will be no way to tell if it has sold well on the Deck. They are PC games I can play them on either/or/both the pc & deck.

it also comes across as veiled platform warring. They see it as something that has come along that is taking a little bit of lustre of the Switch image. It was the de facto King of handheld gaming and now there is this upstart peasant come along threatening its dominance.

Except it hasn’t, with all the best will in the world, the steam deck is not threatening Nintendo. It was never meant to. It was there to offer PC gamers a way to have portable access to their library. It may then tempt other people in as well, the emulation crowd, people who have been put off by the supposed complexity of PC gaming and the tech crowd. Maybe, 5-10 years down the line when (hopefully) the deck 2/3 is getting released we will see something that can challenge Nintendo’s dominance in the hand held market. But even if it doesn’t it should still be fulfilling the roll it was created for, a portable PC

Been playing Astalon: Tears of the Earth. This game is great. If you're itching for a metroidvania, it's maybe one of the better choices out there right now? Very, very pleasantly surprised by it. It leans more on combat than platforming, similar to a SotN. Although the platforming is also very competently done and often evokes La Mulana or early Castlevania with all its traps and such -- but less punishing than either of those reference points.

Highly recommend giving it a shot next time anyone's up for a game like this. Inexpensive and seems to be about 15+ hours in length if you're filling out the map, so it doesn't drag too much either. Based on the number of reviews on Steam and the general amount of chatter about it on the internet, it hasn't really taken off. That's a shame because I have not had this much unqualified fun with a game in this style for a long time. Perhaps it's just speaking to my specific tastes, but I see the game on a lot of wishlists from familiar faces (and no other owners, sadly). A big thumbs up from me at least.

There's also a demo on Steam. It's more like a playable teaser, so certain things work a little differently in it compared to the game itself, but it should give you a good idea of the general vibe it's going for.

Unless Valve introduce a separate sales chart there will be no way to tell if it has sold well on the Deck.
Not directly but I think developers can see which controller players use, so that can act as a proxy data point.

Ha. Also currently going through 555 (slowly), but I'm still very very early.
I watched three episodes so far. Going to return to it tonight. So far I love it!

Been done ages ago and it's the single most impressive one in the industry, and unprecedented at that. It is indeed a fascinating tale of good and transparent project management, yeah.

Mmh, I can browse the site but no video player. I suppose I'm region-locked.

I was going to post it! Dammit :D

I assume it's going to be in a bundle soon
This must have bombed hard. Sad for the dev, the game looks chill.

I have one or two suggestions for the dev of Dorfromantik, unfortunate that there is no easy way to write to them.
No, I won't join a fucking Discord server :so-good-blob:

- edit -
I see they have a contact email on Twitter, will maybe write (it's no game changing suggestions, just two UI feedbacks)

:doubtblob:, but agree to disagree.
Unless you have actual facts instead of hearsay and the average Gamer Consensus, yeah. I can revise my view once conclusive proof of the billion allegations surfaces. In the meantime, most of the criticism has been childish, for instance the joke about roadmap to a roadmap that they coined in themselves. When you look at the end result, it's clear that this is much more than what most studios would do, which is a short bullet point list or, in the case of those really going for it, a trello board.

This project has been under fire from so many groups with the clearly stated purpose to make it fail that it's pretty painfully obvious nothing anyone merely says about it can be trusted. I'm too used to bullshit by now to trust anything that isn't backed by something cross-referenced and properly sourced, and that actually makes sense.

There's also the fact that most of the allegations completely ignore the reality of what's been delivered and is being done successfully. As you said, agree to disagree I guess.

I never played San Andreas.
:face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

How is the state of the game currently on PC?
Same, actually. I played it a bit on other people's PS2, as it was everywhere for a time, but the last GTA game I really played and finished was Vice City.

Got a few months of free Stadia and tried 2 exclusives, Gunsport (decent fun, but online is dead, has a tiny bit of SP content) and PixelJunk Raiders (felt I had enough after 10 min, repetive and mediocre gameplay).

Still, Stadia is the best cloud service I have tried so far. PS Now is very blurry with some latency and xCloud has good image quality, but a ton of latency. Stadia has barely any latency and quite nice image quality.

Gylt is still the best Stadia exclusive I have played, it released in 2019, so have no idea if it is fully Stadia exclusive or not.

From a project management standpoint, lets just look at the fact that they have consistently missed all the proposed release dates for the final product. What year was Squadron 42 supposed to be released in again? Have they even announced a new date, or has that conveniently disappeared?

I would not call the project a scam as some do, but it is a perpetual money-making machine, where there really is no reason to actually finish the product as long as their customers are willing to give them more money during development.

A product is definitely being made, but in the most convoluted way possible.
Invent new tech for everything. Why? Because!

And the most invested backers defend the project with the same parroted excuses that were used 3-5 years ago! "Server-sharding is not in yet!" Etc.

The project is a grade A example of why it might be good to have external product owners who actually set their foot down and demand deliverables at a reasonable pace, or elsefeatures must be cut. Like publisher do in the gaming world for example.

But I know that it doesn't really matter what I say, because I am not changing anyone's mind regarding the matter.

So in the meantime, I enjoy watching the spectacle unfold from a distance, reading about the wacky hijinks of Roberts and co a few times a year.

I liked DS3, but it's easily my least favorite of From's recent games. I enjoyed a Sekiro a lot though, to my own surprise. I was expecting to get annoyed by its difficulty and parrying based on how it was described, but it ended up somehow really gelling with me. Cool game.

Demon of Hatred is the worst though. Yuck.

From what I've played of FromSoft games:

Bloodborne > DS3 > DS = Sekiro >>>>>>DS2

In terms of Soulslikes or whatever people call them these days I like Nioh best, have yet to really play most of the others, but I do own Surge 1, 2. I have tried some others that I didn't really like much, Lords of the Fallen was okay, should give it another try. Code Vein was good. Mortal Shell comes out on the 18th this month, looks nice. Some people say Remnant From the Ashes is a Soulslike, I have finished it (not DLCs) and can't really see it as a Soulslike, I don't know why.

There was that one game that I tried on game pass on Xbox long time ago that I didn't like at all (it's also on Steam), but don't remember the name of.

Cacher ... or spending hours drinking with your mates while gambling among yourselves on the in-game Dog or Horse racing at the bookies, watching the AI fly into bridge supports and the Vinewood sign because Rockstar did the usual thing of not updating all the AI paths when they changed geometry lol and the top fun of riding to the top of Mt Chiliad and getting hit by a plane at the Summit. Good Times.

Gang Wars can GTFO though, always interrupting my fun when i'm across the map or just want to wander around doing nothing or exploring.
