Finished up RDR2 the other day. Took me 70hrs to see the credits. The last couple chapters and portions of the game were so good I couldn't put it down.

The game really was amazing from start to finish. The story, characters and the open world was all 5 stars. I wasn't expecting to experience such a well crafted world of the late 1890s. The attention to detail in this was ridiculous. It all felt so dynamic too. Everything from the optional strangers, npcs, main and other missions. Even like 50hrs into the game it all felt so fresh and impressive. There is a lot to do in this. You can probably spend like 50hrs on just hunting if that is your thing. You can spend another 50hrs just free roaming doing dumb stuff and/or taking screenshots. The game is beautiful. Outside of some shoddy ground textures and a few questionable faces..this is up there with the best graphics in open world video games that I've seen. Its really impressive. There is so many good characters in this too. Good guys, Bad guys, Men, Women, Elderly, Children etc. There was so many and they were all so well written. The main protagonist Arthur Morgan easily goes down as one of my favorite video game protagonist. How everything progressed with him in this and all the people around him was great.

As for a negative in the game...the movement is so slow and clunky. Its like playing an Assassin's Creed game from 10 years ago. Stopping on a dime and doing a 180 is painful sometimes. Looting bodies is also very uneccessarily slow. You get the whole realism thing the devs are trying to achieve but even Ubisoft made the eventual necessary advancement in Odyssey/Origins. Especially with Odyssey. With this it really is a case of creating the greatest video game ever made vs creating the 5th or 10th greatest game ever instead. Rockstar overachieved so much they lost some focus on the importance of controls/interaction. Maybe its their engine I don't know. It was just clunky and it even affected some of the shooting too. In some cases it made it more difficult to deal with a lot of enemies especially when you get ambushed. You are fighting the controls and enemies at same time lol. Its almost impossible to bash any other thing in this game too because its such an amazing accomplishment. The 97 metacritic is well deserved. But this one weird thing they should have done differently. Just imagining MGSV controls/movement in this tho it would probably be the GOAT game.

I only played an hour of online mode so I don't have much to say about it. It did seem very grindy so I don't want to do that now. But yea aside from that negative this was an amazing game. I recommend it to everyone right now if you have the $$$ to pick it up and have the free time to beat it. Especially if you are a fan of very story heavy and story rich games like Witcher etc. This one had it all and it was so memorable. In fact I would go as far as to say Rockstar really did outWitcher the Witcher 3 with this. Two very similar games in terms of being massive quadruple A story rich/driven games. And just like the W3 they prolonged the story so much for all the right reasons. It all helped expand on the character development and world building. Both amazing games but I think Rockstar did it better. The world is more alive and all the side stuff is a little better too. Its understandable since this came out 3 years after W3 but nonetheless R* deserves a lot of credit here. This was also so much better than GTAV its not even funny. Its such a shame that game sold 100 million but this one sold only 25 or wtvr. It should be the other way around ffs. I would be so happy if they cancelled GTA6 and worked on RDR3 instead now. Or hopefully those rumors of a medieval game they are working on are true. Just anything but another GTA pls.

Now I want to continue this story and play the first RDR but of course the only way to do it is PSNow via PC or my PS4. But that service is tedious trash so its disappointing that I can't easily play it. I guess I could do emulation but from last I read RPCS3 is not that great with the game. I did remember reading about Xenia doing it well so I'll look into it. Otherwise I have to buy a XB1S or XB1X to do their BC emulation. But there is no way I'm doing that shit just for one game. Fucking Rockstar man..they can violate human rights forcing 1000 people to work 100hr workweeks to make this..but they couldn't ask those people to work an extra couple hours so they can easily port/remaster that first one so everyone can enjoy it properly right now. ughh wtvr. I think I am gonna give them another 6 months to see if they maybe remaster/remake it. They have to know its a good idea to do it after now releasing this on PC.

3 days til the end of my Origin bonus month. I have to work on Jedi in order to finish it.
Sadly, I can't say I share the positive feedback. This feels like the most boring game I've played in a long time.

I can't exactly pinpoint the reason. I think for one that I now loathe the Uncharted experience tm. It really began with U4 but the whole hey let's spend 10 minutes jumping and climbing like a monkey under LSD feel extremely mundane to me. That's a little disturbing because action-adventure games were my jam. Maybe it's the fact that everyone and their mother began to use the style, a little like fantasy books where every fucking hack began to write their fantasy trilogy at one point.
Then the Dark Souls part... the feeling is there, but it's nowhere near as clean as a From game.
And don't launch me on the writing and dialogs. This shit is insufferable. Hey let's have the protag comments on every little things his droid buddy does...
Finally, it's not as polished as one could think at first. I regularly have to suffer from minor bugs or gameplay hiccups.

The second part of the Gorgora (sp) fight was absolutely awful. Worst gameplay segment of 2019.

Mediocre. Boring. Unpolished. To me it's a very good fanservice game, in a good way. As a game that want to stand on its own, meh.

Finally finished RDR2 epilogue. I don't think can't get tired of praising this game but I think that for me that was it. Maybe I'll return to get 100% completion but at least I don't see myself playing Red Dead Online, and it's pretty rare for me to return to a game just to get 100%. Still, the story mode is great, and I never thought I'd say this about a Rockstar game after that horrendous GTA V thing they called a story.
Yeah, I'm 30hrs in at Chapter 2 still but Rockstar surprised me with some solid writing and characters in this one.
Gta 4 & 5 left a bad taste in that regard especially and I was prepared for the same here.

Chapter 2 here too, 10 hours so far, my impressions are the same, I'm personally divided with this game at so many levels that it will probably be the most difficult game to review for me in a very long time.

2 Frog Detective games! Twice the goodness!
I can't read this without thinking Frog Fractions. What a huge disappointment FF2 was :( The overworld was soooo boring that I couldn't reach a single minigame.

8 hours and no saving, what were you thinking?
Yep, I tend to do the opposite: save so much that I eventually force myself into an unwinnable state and have to reload an older save. Gotta love games with two quicksave slots.

8 hours is nothing.

I just lost 23 hours of my Doraemon save last month because I had to hard reinstall my Windows. I basically have to restart the game. :blobclosecry:

Finally managed to carve out a bit of time to try RDR2 between my daughter's desperate crying for one reason or the other.

Good things

- My rig's enough to run it at 4k @ 40+fps, with almost all max settings!
I've got a freesync monitor and I'm not super used to play at 60fps anyway, so it looks proper smooth to me!

- Love that they throw John Marston in during the tutorial!

Bad things

- The motherfucking Rockstar launcher is a real PITA.
It takes like 1 minute to turn up and finally decide to launch the game (so much for being a launcher amirite); it annoys me with unnecessary, un-disableable, notifications (Steam is good enough at letting me know about achievements); nobody knows where it saves the photo mode photos (apparently I'm supposed to upload them to the social club, and then download them again? Fuck off Rockstar!), so I guess I'll have to toggle the UI and take Steam screens with the usual F12 instead.

- The inverted fading effect they use on the loading screens makes me feel dizzy for some reason... 🤔
Unfortunately the game is like twice as large as my SSD, so it's gotta stay on the old and sluggish HDD for the time being, and I'm gonna have to enjoy those very long loading times.

I remember my 100 hour+ PS3 skyrim save basically grounding to a halt with bugs and broken framerate. Couldn't finish half the quests and 5fps in most places killed it.

Skyrim on PS3 was something. I had bought the PC version on release but my GPU died a couple days before and I only got another one year later, so I had to pick between playing it on a 8400GS or my PS3. I ended playing on both after seeing that the 8400GS did better than PS3, but I only played on PC after a spending about 50hrs on PS3 and that was suffering, both for me and for the console I suppose.

Great game looking back at it though.

I'm done with Poi, the cute little 3D platformer.
Took me about 7h to collect everything, quite a decent length for a game that can be found for 3 bucks.

And it was surprisingly good?
The controls are pretty much a worse version of Mario Sunshine or even a bit dodgier than A Hat in Time, but with the somersault of Mario 64 being actually doable and functional, unlike a lot of other Mario bootlegs. It's not great, but it's serviceable, better than most, not as good as the best games available.
But its strong point is really the level design, for once the levels are just the right size, not ridiculously large and empty like Yookay Laylee, but more developed and a lot less linear than Mario Galaxy. They have all good verticality, and plenty of chances to exploit shortcuts with the triple jump/somersault>wall jump. They have decent atmosphere (I dig the little western city in the desert level, it's pretty cute), and are packed with things to collect that ultimately all end up transformed as the one item to collect in the hub; so it doesn't feel too bloated when you know that you don't have fifteen hundred types of crap to get in a level; and it also has a very handy guide book to see what you missed.

Very pleasantly surprised, it's probably the closest game to the N64-era that I've played, and its controls and mission design is veeery Mario 64/Sunshine. If it was a bit more polished, I'd definitely put in the good category, but as is, it's better than decent.
Quite impressive from a tiny indie game considering how much bigger budget games don't have tightly designed levels like Poi, and even recent Mario games falter in pacing and badly included sections. Mario Odyssey was good, but most levels definitely weren't the most interesting or even had much platforming...

Poi is a nice fun platformer IMO. Only thing I dislike is that you can't clear multiple objectives at the same time and gotta do them one by one.

I have a semi serious gaming problem;

Yesterday I had time at home after the craziness of the holidays, which involved travel, staying away, gifts, little ones and a lot of beer.

So, I have time alone and what do I do?

I watch King of the Hill on hulu while playing the Binding of Issac a lot. I sampled some other games too but I just sank into issac again.

Pathetic.

A heads-up for those who own Hitman 2, but were "bummed" for missing the time-limited elusive targets: it seems the current target is the last one.
Which means, starting next month, elusive targets will probably start repeating (at least on the previous game they did).

I finished it a few days ago and yeah i have the same feelings about Fallen Order.

It's really an unpolished game, and the traversal is just so boring and awful to play. So many sliding sections, so many grappling on walls, etc... And the combat itself is not even that good. I even picked one of the hardest difficulties since i heard people compare the combat to souls/sekiro, but man, the game didn't feel good to play at all. Also i had that UE4 hitching whenever as i was moving around as it probably streamed assets in the background.

Took me about 17hours to finish and i can't really say many good things about it. I'm not a big star wars fan, so that probably didn't help, but i think it was a very mediocre game, and i don't get the praise it gets. Also why did 99% of the chests only had the same cosmetic shit ? Oh look! Another lightsaber part! Wow! Why even look around for secrets when most of it is shit i don't care about and is not useful anyway. Bleh, i was pretty disappointed that i bought the Origin premier access... until...

...i saw that A plague tale: innonence was also on Origin Premier so i decided to give it a go and wow, i really really liked it. The stealth gameplay was serviceable, about what you can expect from a stealth based game with kids protagonists. The game looked incredible. I played it a 4k60 maxed out on a 32* 4k monitor instead of my 144hz/gsync monitor just to take in the 4k glory, i was willing to compromise on the 144hz since i played it on a controller and that in combination with it being a slow stealth game i didn't mind settling for 60fps and it ran well thanks to the 2080ti.

And it's definitely one of the better looking games i played this year, on par with RDR2. Some chapters gave me that "let's stop and just look at the environment for a while", the quality of the graphics and what was happening on screen in certain sequences was something else. Some chapters really gave me a cozy Thief vibe, stealthing around a medieval town to get access to a special area, in search of an item to steal. If you played the game, you know what chapter i'm talking about.

The story was decent overall, and i really liked the setting. I'll mention that i played it in french, given the setting and the fact that i'm fluent in it, it definitely helped get me immersed in that world. The french voice acting was decent, and i'm sure it helped that Asobo is a french studio.

In short, i came for Fallen Order, stayed for A plague tale: innocence.

P.S.: Where the fuck is Thief ? Can we get a proper reboot please. Now i want to play through the first 3 Thief games again.

Fallen Order finished. I can't say the last segment wasn't hype.
That being said, I should have played on normal, hard was frustrating in a bad way. I played Nioh this morning and didn't felt as angry as when putting up with the bullshit FO throws sometimes, just because. It's part of what I meant when I said From games are cleaner. There is this often repeated thing that when you die in their game, you know you messed up, and true or not, it doesn't apply to FO to me.

Edit - And to add to the lack of polish, this works in reverse too ! How many times should I have been hit by an unblockable but somehow... didn't ?

So just how good is the Tetris Effect OST? LRG has the OST on vinyl for sale. They seem to have the full OST and it includes the songs digitally as well for $100USD, It would be about $110USD after shipping. And they also have the option of some songs with the full digital OST for just $35USD, it would be under $50USD after shipping. This seems to be the only way to get the OST since it does not seem like it is being sold in any other form?

Ya I know that it's dumb but I have been buying some OST on vinyl in hopes of eventually buying a record player and listening to them on that,

Kind of ashamed to say that from all the games I wanted to play this season, I got the Pokeyman's bug lately. I haven't cared about Pokeyman at all since I dropped X after 12 hours, and I cared very little about it before then, yet here we are for some reason.

Also been playing REmake 2, but noped out after the first licker fight last night.
