He's been tweeting a lot about Valve the past few days, probably worth reading all of it you're interested.
I'm a little surprised that there haven't been more former employees like Rich who are open about their time at Valve and clearly don't mind burning bridges.

More like the past few years recycling the same things over and over. Dude has a hard hate-on and given that no it's not surprising he's the only one doing this.

Here's the same stuff from July 2018 for example.
The way he talks you'd think nothing gets done at Valve, Steam is the same as it was in 2003, Counter-Strike GO is just like 1.6, Team Fortress 2 never went anywhere, DOTA2 is just a straight DOTA remaster, their collaboration with HTC to bring VR to the masses was a total failure, and so on, people are apparently paid to be lazy, not finish anything, and get bonuses and company wide vacation on top, Gabe and co must have some evil master plan at work to put up with it.

I remember he was certainly very active in defending Epic around the launch of EGS (and I disagree heavily on pretty much all that), but it's not like he's the only one who's posted about Valve politics and been openly negative.
Obviously it's just one side of the story and we're never going to hear a non-PR answer from the other side.

Other than the weird culture thing, I guess my other problem with Valve is that for a company that's supposedly been "constantly hiring" for the past decade, how is it that they're seemingly stuck at 300-ish employees?

It sucks that CSGO only gets 1 operation a year (actually I think there was over a 2 year gap between the latest operations) because Gabe or some other definitely-not-a-leader winks at you and whispers that TI is approaching and their team could use more help, or they "have to" work on HL:A, or Artifact or whatever the hot thing happens to be that month.
They can obviously afford more devs and have had more than enough time to slowly scale up without ruining the company culture (I'm pretty sure this is one of the reasons Gabe once said as to why don't recruit more actively).

I like Valve and want them to do well.
PC gaming is much better off in the long run as long as Valve is leading the pack instead of a company like Microsoft or Epic, but I'm not sure they're going to be able to keep punching above their weight class forever against giants who have thousands of employees to throw at things.

sorry about the serious post
inb4 a joke about Epic having thousands of devs and EGS having pretty much no improvements in its first year :coffee-blob:

Surprisingly enough it does look like EGS will finally get reviews and wishlist..... For reviews well not even consoles really have those, and not all of the other PC launchers have those either. From the looks of it, I think EGS wants to put more of an emphasis on critic reviews instead of User Reviews which is sort of BS (but I could be wrong and just read it wrong). Because from what I saw it looks like Epic wants it to say that 90 percent of critics recommend this game as apposed to over 90 percent of users recommend this game. And while critic reviews can be useful they can also be full of BS, remember on PC there are a lot of game where the PC version will almost always have way less critic reviews than the console version of games. And a game potentially may be broken or something and it will still get a high score while users would give that game a bad review.

As for whishlist I didn't know that it was not a feature on EGS and well the idea of wishlist is not new and even Nintendo has something like that and from the looks of it, Nintendo even emails you when the game goes on sale. So if Nintendo is beating you at some online feature in 2019 (that does not pertain to first party only stuff) then you know you done goofed.

Maybe things will eventually get better on EGS, maybe.

As for the employee thing it might have to do with 3 things. it seem that more than 50% of their new hires don't even last 1 year at Valve, second it seems that they would rather get contracted workers instead of just full on hiring people? As for reason 3 I think it might just have something to do with them not wanting too many people, they could get more stuff done in theory but you would still have issues about what gets done and then you have the added cost of benefits and stuff like, and even with that you may not get much done? So you would be left with a large 500+ work force without a clear direction?

If they were to get more workers, would it just be better for them to open another studio and then just have that sort of independently run itself and act more like a "traditional" game studio that just focuses on making new game?

=====
Not related to the above topics my keyboard and mice are nice but one of the issues that I do have is that I will misspell stuff and sometime that is because I don't know how to spell the word in question, because I have a high DPI and all of that stuff it sort of sucks having to right click the correct word right away. It can be sort of annoying.

I know I'm pretty late to this but dynamic collection based on tags is a real time-saver. Makes searching and choosing co-op games when my nieces wants to play much more easier. Really nice.

I like them but I wish we had more filter options. I'd like to be able to add exclusions based on tags (e.g., RPG but no JRPG, or FPS but no Roguelike) and I'd like more options, such as percent achievements complete. Still, it's a good start.

I don't know what that is
I haven't played CS:GO but it was a popular map back in the old CS days. I played around v0.6 and it was a common map back in those days. Guessing maybe it was taken out with the switch to CS: GO?

Okay, so there is either something wrong with A) Origin (I don't think so?), B) source engine respawn games on my PC, or C) my PC has issues.

So prior to upgrade my PC I was to play OG Titanfall without it crashing. I upgrade my PC and the game would crash, I thought it was hackers since I was told that there are hackers that crash that game since the community is very small for it (I was told something along those lines while in chat for the game).

I played a lot of Apex and I played it on my upgraded PC and it ran fine but it would crash at times. I stopped played Apex because of these crashes, now here I am playing Titanfall 2 and it also crashes. I doubt that it's Source Engine since I am able to play source games without issues. I though maybe it could be Origin? But I have not had any crashes in the Jedi game. And that is also developed by Respwawn.

So the only thing that TF1,TF2, and Apex have in common is that they are developed by Respwawn, use a modified Source Engine and are only available on Origin.

Hopefully I am able to play at least the campaign for the game without it crashing. And by crashing I mean freezing where the game will just hard lock my PC and force me to push the restart button on my PC case.

I thought maybe I just don't have enough power or something but I upgraded my PSU recently.

I will try the game from my new NVME and see if anything changes.

I'm failing to see what's the issue here. No work environment is suitable for every person, and I've yet to see that Valve's is hostile. Passive, maybe. But, y'know. Just because they aren't making Portal 3 doesn't mean that no significant work is being done..

As long as Valve keeps Steam up and running. I'll be okay.

Decided to replace my secondary monitor with an Acer VG240PY and I'm happy with it for $160! 1080p/144hz IPS display? That's a steal! Lacks a bit of IO, but I can't really complain when the monitor itself does its job more than well.

If it has variable refresh rate, make sure to pivot it. Secondaries turned to 90 degrees are great both for web browsing and tate shmups.

I think I'm almost finished with the Jedi game, I got to this one boss fight and well it was really cool.

So the fight would switch from cinematic to quick time stuff to normal gameplay and it did it very fast without it feeling out of place along with the music made it a real joy for me.

So I'm guessing that stuff like the new God of War has this (and from what I recall the director of one of the older God of War games worked on this game?) and if so I look forward to that at some point (I have the new game but I wanted to play the older games first). The problem with God of War will likely be the FPS. What made the scene in the Jedi game so cool was the high fps, everything just looked/felt soo smooth.

So stuff like that can be cool in games and stuff like Nier A has this really cool fight sequence that happens twords the end of the game, but what ruined that experience for me was the dips in FPS, I was maybe getting something like 20fps in that section (also for what ever reason Platinum Games just likes to use FMVs).

I'm a fan of high fps stuff.

By the way in CS:GO why do the counter terrorist have funny mushroom looking helmets?

only bought Disco Elysium and Crosscode. This steam sale is indeed pretty sucky. :disappointed-face:
You should try to become a patient gamer. I have about 270 games on my wishlist, and over 200 of them are on sale - most of them 50% off or more.

I’ve been having a really weird issue these past few weeks. Don’t know if it’s the right place, but maybe someone here had and solved this. My keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting! Strangely it happens most often when using full screen applications, e.g games or YT full screen. I’ve tried uninstalling drivers in device manager for both the USB port it’s in and the keyboard itself, not letting Windows turn off the device by itself, and disabling USB power saving measures. Didn’t help. Any ideas?

Suspecting it might be the keyboard or USB port being faulty. Will try to rule that out by using other ports. It happens so infrequently that it’s a real pain to replicate but often enough to be annoying.

You should use another port with the same keyboard, or the same port with a different keyboard.

Is the possibly faulty port at the back of the PC or at the front? It might be worth refining your searches with this precision.

Yeah, I'll have to do that. Such a pain to troubleshoot. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't :(

I need this on PC. If I could make video games, it would basically be this without the anime aesthetic. Then you guys would remind me that Anime sells, and I'd make a full anime conversation.

Aaaaaaaaand all my library already has new assets (not official tho) from 1080 products, 219 weren't updated (although I think some will once they release) so, I'm happy that 8/10 parts of my library were updated, however I think devs should really take care of their own products.

Anyway, now that everything is done I must say it's quite impressive.

Heh. A few years ago a friend had an account and wanted to change the email associated with it (since he no longer had access to the previous one). It wanted confirmation by email. (To be fair, I think that was a general system for all account detail changes, but it's still not quite perfectly thought through)

Loosing access to an old email can fuck up a lot, for example I can't change primary email, add phone number or change password on Facebook, even when I'm logged in. Once I get locked out of it that will be it.XD

Not every person is suited for specific work cultures. And his example reeks of "People didn't feel they have the acknowledgment of station or the power over other people and feel they are entitled to a management job with X number of direct employees instead of working their ass off like everyone else and get paid for actual impactful work instead of nepotism and station.

What was the method to see all unowned dlcs for owned games? I'd like to see which dlcs that I have forgotten
Answering my own question.

madjoki 's webpage seems to do that. Although not perfect as it shows all dlcs for all owned games.

edit: I am not sure anymore. It seems to list all unowned dlcs, but some games it still list dlcs that I own... It even list free dlcs
