I'm actually pretty excited for a Rome/Italy setting again for Assassin's Creed!
I just hope that the rumor about the names is wrong... not sure I could get used to Lucia :confused-face:

Finding Paradise is such a strong sequel. Kan Gao can do no wrong.
I keep forgetting about this game. Still haven't played it, despite buying it at release. Given how much I loved the first game this is weird, but then again I tend to never play 99.9% of the stuff I buy, no matter how hyped I am for it...

On unrelated news, this weekend I spent quite some time hacking my brand new SNES Classic. Man, those old games were hard. How did people manage to beat anything back then‽‽‽

Hell yeah, thanks for the b-day wishes. I want the Epic Store to stop buying exclusives for my b-day.
we all do .... we all do ;)

and you're welcome :cat-heart-blob:

No one did the Monthly retro challenge? Didn't Tizoc beat it?
I thought that I had Metal Slug, but it seems I missed every time it's been in a bundle :(
oh, the retro one isn't a challenge - hence no list ... it's just a suggestion of a cool game for people to play :p

Dishonored 2 is the challenge

it's funny because i can bet A LOT of Chinese people are buying it to downvote it ... but probably very few are actually refunding it (otherwise volvo would've closed refunds for this game a looong time ago) ... so the devs are getting a shittonne of money now :p

I'm just hoping that positive word of mouth from other regions will help this game get more popular.

Oh, it's not a challenge. I thought it was :D

Are you accepting new challenges for the next month? May I suggest EDF 4.1? I assume that many will have it since it's in the next Monthly

Devil May Cry 5 maybe?

I don't know how difficult the game is, since I haven't played it.
Maybe finish the game in at least normal difficulty? Someone who has played it may give a suggestion.

edit: hmm... it takes around 20 hours to beat the game.

i don't get it (the "hot key" part, i mean)

I just saw that there seems to be a new style of "games on your wishlist are on sale" email.

Is this the first time they use that or did I just miss it previously?
it's been around for a few days now

funnily enough - i'm still getting the old layout in volvo emails :p

According to Sam Brads, Microsoft is still going hard to bring us the lovely Xbox console experience on PC:

Microsoft's Evolving Gaming Strategy Takes A Giant Step Forward - Thurrott.com

I'm not sure that's what's happening, since Spencer was talking about delivering a more native experience on PC. This is probably about downloading large pc games without using the Windows Store API's. At least I hope so, or we may get more shitty console ports and less native PC games in the future.

Not only mails but also Sale pages are now reworked with different sections and new background designs, Valve has been adding more and more little parts of the new style lately, slowly but a sure pace.

BTW, I just saw yesterday your message that you had to cancel a project, so sorry to hear that, man, hopefully it won't happen with the next one, good luck for all the team.

The innovation with Apex's ping system is that it's context based and you can ping everything. The most common use is pinging spots on the map, enemies, and stuff on the ground, but it can also be used for pinging stuff in your inventory to tell team mates you need ammo or weapon parts or whatever.
Like you said, Dota has had it for what, 5-6 years at least? It's been forever since I last played the game, but it was already fairly expansive around the time of TI 2-3 and they were constantly working on it and expanding the interactions with every big patch. I'm surprised to see so many people call what Apex is doing innovative. Then again I'm also surprised more games haven't copied it until now because it's fantastic for communication.

There are four different achievements for beating the game

A Walk in the Park
Cleared all stages on Normal difficulty as a Ranger.

Winging It
Cleared all stages on Normal difficulty as a Wing Diver.

Clearing the Air
Cleared all stages on Normal difficulty as an Air Raider.

Fencing Scholar
Cleared all stages on Normal difficulty as a Fencer.

Very little have actually unlocked these achievements. Is the game difficult to beat?

I don't get why they are so automatically defensive about the backlash against EGS?
They release sponsored articles for EGS exclusives too. So EGS is most likely paying them literally. (Galyonkin said they would pay for advertising of exclusive games on other sites)

That surely won't affect their judgement (and of course, goes undisclosed).
Post automatically merged:

Genesis Alpha One mixes genres in a unique, intergalactic rogue-like | PC Gamer here's one example of their sponsored articles.

Literally small text of "by sponsored". No info on who sponsored. Looks exactly like their regular articles too.

You can also ping things in R6 Siege. Anywhere you can point your cursor can be pinged. That feature has been in from the start.

I'm confused about what makes Apex's any more impressive or important?

Those are not the easiest achievements though? You're likely not going to stick to a single class for every mission (some missions are even substantially more difficult with some classes).
And single player and multiplayer mission progression isn't shared either. As far as I see it, there is no "simply beat the game" achievement.

The next AssCreed is supposedly set in Rome. Again.

So for me, that's a safe skip. Sorry Ubi. I'm kinda tired of Europe at this point, but especially all this ancient Greek/Rome blah blah. Wouldn't mind seeing medieval Germany or Jeanne d'Arc France though.

Really I want AssCreed in Meiji or fedual Japan, Warring States or later China, and how about Russia around the time of Rasputin? Then I'll come back to the series.
AssCreed anywhere in Eastern Europe would be a huge move.

Do it Ubi, you damn cowards.

In Siege you still need a mic to clarify what that ping was for. Did you see an enemy? Want me to cover that doorway? Apex gives you a radial menu where you can choose different actions. Also everything in your inventory is ping-able so you can ask for ammo, health items or utility.

But the most innovative improvement is that every ping is fully voice-lined so you don't actually need to see the ping in order to react to it.

Apex's system isn't necessarily new. It's a well made system containing elements that have been in other games before. Key features being:
Context – Pinging ammo asks for more ammo, empty attachment slot asks for attachement, I assume pinging health will ask for syringes etc.
Voice lines – for everything, like described above.

The closest system that I've encountered is DOTA 2 where you can ping pretty much anything in the UI to give context based information in the text chat. Pinging itself have been around forever, especially in RTS.

R6S's ping system is just a typical location ping with zero context. Most shooters have that, and even Fortnite has that.

If I ping a location in Siege, my teammate has to figure out what I want from them. Am I asking them to reinforce the wall? Am I telling them to barricade a window? Am I telling that that I want their Ballistic Shield there? Am I telling them to pick up Rook's trauma plates?

Apex's has way more contextual, useful options than "yellow marker here":

Those pings above respectively starting from the top and clockwise are: go; enemy; looting this area; attacking here; going here; defending this area; watching here; someone's been here.

If I need healing, my ping options look like this:

So I can specifically request if I need shield or health.

And then when it comes to items, the ping system looks like this:

Which means I can contextually ping every single item that I see both in the world and in my own inventory. If I ping a scope, my character will literally know what it is and say either something like "Optics here, sniper" or "Optics here, close-range"

Also, if I need an attachment for an item in my inventory, I can ping that attachment slot to ask if anyone has something I can use. This works for ammo too, so if I'm low on ammo, I ping the ammo type next to the gun in the inventory, and it specifically requests that type of ammo from my teammates.

There are even contextual responses to the initial pings. So if I asked for a scope and someone dropped it, they can ping me to show where they dropped it, and I can hit the ping key to thank them for dropping the item. Or if they ping that they want to go somewhere, I can ping back to agree or disagree with their idea.

And like lazerfox said, the most important part is that these pings aren't just activity feed or subtitled notifications, they're actually audible callouts to teammates without ever needing to use a mic. You can basically have almost an entirely functional tactical conversation in a match without ever needing to speak to someone.

I don't know why everyone is so eager to downplay this system.

Oh, that actually does seem really helpful! I'd love it if the pings in R6 were also contextually voiced.

Oh I know you were just asking a question :cuteblob:

I was just speaking to how it seems like people aren't willing to give Apex its due in terms of how good its ping system is for a shooter. People keep saying things like "Well X action game or Y strategy game had a ping system 10 years ago!" And that's fine, but those are different types of games and this ping system is easily better than anything I've used in an online shooter before.

And I should note, I hate the game and stopped playing it after one night. But I'm still willing to give it its due and say that the ping system is amazing.
Also Respawn did a lot of playtesting to make sure their pinging system would be solid enough to work as the only mode of communication in the game. Other games treat it as a tool to help with communication.
And this is impressive too: that they forced the people testing it to not use mics so that they could figure out how much could actually be conveyed through pings.

The answer is a hell of a lot more than any other online game's ping system.
