In the past two weeks I have completed Desperados 3 and The Medium thanks to Game Pass. I was really close to buying Desperados 3 during the Steam holiday sale but held off. I would have never played The Medium without Game Pass since I'm not a big fan of horror games, but Microsoft's hype machine made me interested enough to try it (and it was better than I was expecting). Between Game Pass and Humble Monthly, I rarely buy games directly from Steam any more. The only exception is if it is a game I will play immediately and I'm pretty sure won't show up in a subscription service any time soon.
I also do not play horror games (outside of Resident Evil) and I'm on the fence about the Medium.

I'm currently playing Spiritfarer, also on GamePass. That would be quite the shift in tone, lol.

The first half hour isn't very good and I was on the verge of dropping it, but once you get to the main locale the game takes place in, it does pick up. The art design is pretty good, especially for the other world. It's not a very scary game since there are only a few jumpscares, but it's a creepy game.

Here's a horror game one can play without worrying about horror elements much:
Alan Wake :lampblob:
Alright which one of you crashed steam trying to hack into its servers to find Bloodborne steam page?

Not interested in Sekiro in the slightest but it is very funny that Activision refuses to give it a non shit discount

What are my options if I want a launcher for emulation ?
I just wasted a couple of hours on RetroArch, it's shit. If the auto mode doesn't work you have to add the game, name it after a fucking database, and pray nothing hit the fan. This is just pathetic. I just asked for a nice UI.
I use emulation station as my launcher. I wanted something that works well with a controller and it does the job for me. The version on the website is old (2015) but a fork is updated at Releases · jrassa/EmulationStation . There are scripts out there to help with setting it up

Nuts is out.

I love the premise of this game, but unless the developers have made drastic changes to how the core gameplay loop works since the demo they released last summer (and from the reviews, it sounds like they haven't), I can't recommend it. it's not just trial and error, it's trial and error with a ton of tedious backtracking necessary to start and end each trial

I find games that that provide a sustained sense of foreboding the worst.

Yomawari: Night Alone gave me heart palpitations, and that was a top-down sprite-based game!

In case you missed it in Humble Choice, new historical low for XCOM 2 (92% off)

Wingamestore has the entire game with dlcs for 16 dollars. Would be better money spent in case you want the dlcs too, since they cost more to buy separately

I bought it and played about an hour. I never played the demo before so have gone in blind. I like it so far. Ive only tracked the first two squirrels so am still early in the game loop i guess. I like the visual look and the core mechanic. I think it'll keep me interested for another couple of hours or so if the story progresses.

It's very important to have WOTC for XCOM2. For most mods, and certainly the best mods, you need it. To fix most of the worst problems from vanilla XCOM2, you need it.

Codename Süßkartoffel: A new IP? A mysterious investor? We have the answers!

Mimimi games released a small amount of info on their new game.

  • Original Süßkartoffel Recipe: Our first self-published and third real-time tactics game is a brand-new IP – with a fresh setting and an original story!
  • Served Hot with Kowloon Nights: We are revealing our mysterious investor. THEY ARE NOT A PUBLISHER!
  • 100% Homemade Mimimi Sauce: We are in full control over everything, including the IP rights and all creative choices.
Kowloon who? This news might be confusing for some, so let me resolve that immediately: Kowloon Nights is not a publisher and we’re still doing the self-publishing thing.

And here are five reasons why we enjoy having Kowloon Nights, who we actually met at the European Games BizDev Gathering for the first time, as a partner for Codename Süßkartoffel:

  1. They leave us 100 % full creative control and all the rights to Codename Süßkartoffel! They don’t take a single share or ownership of our IP – and neither a percentage of derivatives such as the soundtrack.
  2. Kowloon Nights only does 3-page contracts! Traditional contracts can easily be 50+ pages long, which can distract developers from focusing on what is important: the game!
  3. If you buy Codename Süßkartoffel we receive all the cash from Steam and other platforms directly. We then transfer a reasonable share to Kowloon. Normally, with the usual contracts it can sometimes take multiple months before developers receive their share because of the accounting complexity. Hence, the Kowloon system reduces financial pressure in-between projects and secures the overall stability of Mimimi Games.
  4. They have a very approachable team that maintains a flat hierarchy and can quickly support us with platform relations and deals, for example.
  5. Being part of the Kowloon family means that we gain access to their experience and network of fellow game developers, who are happy to support each other.

Not sure if this has been posted here, but apparently, Nioh 2 is getting DLSS support. Surprising, really. I wasn't aware.

Crazy that they didn't put in the kb/m prompts in the first place.

Here's a port report from DSOG. It's more than just a lack of prompts, they didn't bother to design the control for kb/m.
Unfortunately, though, the mouse and keyboard control scheme has issues. For starters, there aren’t any K&M icons (though Team Ninja promised to release a day-1 update that will add them). Not only that, but mouse movement feels awful. The game does not offer raw mouse input and instead tries to simulate the analog stick of a gamepad. As such, mouse movement is “jumpy” and completely destroys the whole experience. It’s almost unplayable (yeah, it’s really that bad).

Additionally, PC gamers cannot select any resolution higher than their native one. What this means is that you cannot use a 4K resolution on your 1080p or 1440p monitor. A lot of games support this downsampling method, so yeah, it’s a bit amateurish to lock/sync the game’s max resolution with the monitor native resolution. So, while the game supports 4K, it only does that on 4K monitors and TVs.

🚨 🚨 🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 🚨 🚨
Hopefully it won't be a buggy mess this time. I can't finish the campaign of Cold War because the solution to a puzzle is bugged. I mean I GUESS I can finish it but it is dumb that it doesnt let me see the 'true' ending because of that.

I feel like the whole new Call of Duty game each year is why Call of Duty as an escort is not as large as some of the other ones.

Yakuza kiwami 2 is really nice, having fun with the ragdoll physics
Unfortunately AFAIK The physics in the PC port are fucked up, because they are attached to framerate, unless you are playing at 30 FPS then they should be fine. IDK if it has been fixed. I dont think so.

Qloc..! :face-with-look-of-triumph:

They do alright work, but their ports always seem to have one or more asterisks to them. Do they not get the budget they need or?

This is the result of 5 minutes work with Steam ROM Manager -- it's not perfect of course, since some of my ISOs are named with the serial and not the game name.. but you can see it eliminates most of the busywork of compiling your own library by hand.

Wow, I was ready to just have general emulators as non-steam games, but this sure is nice and tempting !

Tastes are on point by the way, great selection :p

Thomas Mahler, director of "Ori and the Will and Wisps" and CEO of Moon Studios, recently published a fierce message on the "Other" forum, strongly criticizing developers for using deceptive marketing methods to promote their games And match the passion of netizens. But the next day, he apologized on his social media account , admitting that he said too much.

In the article, his anger is mainly directed at Hello Games founder and creator of "No Man's Sky" Sean Murray, and "Cyberpunk 2077" developer CD Projekt Red. Mahler accused them of deceptively marketing the products even when they knew that the quality of the products was seriously inconsistent. Mahler excitedly called these people "snake oil salesmen" (snake oil salesmen, which refer to salesmen who use deceptive tricks to forcefully sell fakes or false ideas).
There are more interesting quotes but I feel pasting them would make the post a brick of wall.
It's an interesting read nevertheless.
