I don't care about the game, like at all.

Having said that, someone tell this guy that everyone here has a job, has bill to pay and, eventually, a family to maintain. Why is it so hard to just say that money are a hell of reason when we talk about business? Take the bag and just say that, its okay.
Its sickening reading this wall of text written while crying that says how hard is it to live. We already know that, thanks.

I'm an asshole, I know. But it really annoys me the way indie dev, primarly, approach their fans through this type of message.
Same here. I like that he addressed exclusivity respectfully and like an adult, unlike the Ooblets assholes. But still, I don't work to make money so that I can buy anticonsumer (overpriced?) products to support someone else being able to have a fun "hobby" job. I get his reasons, but I also don't care. Everyone has to work to get by, most of us at shitty unfun jobs at that.

I don't care about anything else because they don't care about anything else.
Spot on.

Wanting customers and the community to care about them and being indulgent in ways that go beyond a simple business relationship, only to revert to it whenever they want and suits their needs is not a healthy nor ethical mode of operation and is textbook exploitation and manipulation if it establishes itself as a pattern.

That goes even more when they have portrayed such care for the players as a core ethos of their studio and identity, which has been shown to be nothing more than KS-campaign lip service for a great many developers, poisoning the well for the others.

I think the attitude of absolving the devs of all "blame" in these exclusivity deals is very myopic. People get away with all kinds of sketchy shit under the guise of "hey man, just taking what's available to me"; like the Lakers taking a PPP loan (that they gave back when found out). Just because something is offered to you doesn't mean you get to take it with no judgment or criticism allowed.

No one got mad at the developer I think. Understanding doesn't necessarily mean supporting. It is still our right as customers to not buy the game if we choose not to.

See my last post. No one's saying you have to buy the game, on EGS or anywhere else.

I dunno, I don't wanna read too much between the lines but complaining about the dev writing up a post explaining his decision to take an EGS deal comes off as kinda salty to me. 🤷‍♂️

I started playing my first Frogwares Sherlock game recently and I'm pretty fucking impressed. Sure it's low budget but I love having to actually figure shit out.

Can't wait for more

Testament of Sherlock with SSGSS AA looks really nice

You should. It is a great piece of cinema and a great critique of capitalism.
I know, you are right and not just this one, but the director's entire cinematography deserves a good and long looking at. I'm just in a pretty crappy place mentally and I'm not sure this is the right one for me at this precise moment :p.

Log Horizon S3 seems pretty interesting though!

It was in the EGS event, though :confused-face:

yes, but it's gonna be released on everything :) including gog

Eh, isn't this by the same devs that made that recent Call of Cthulhu game? I've been on a Lovecraft kick lately and gave it a shot the other night. I wanna keep playing but man, the low quality was jarring right out of the gate. Probably not the best idea to jump into a lower budget game right after Cyberpunk though, to be fair lol.

it is ... but their Sherlock games were pretty much always good ... they're AA games, naturally ... but they're always solid and interesting to play

I've allways felt the best thing for an indie dev who goes EGSxclusive to do is simply to just write "I like money, I need money, so we're going EGS exclusive for the time being".

Agreed. This way you take responsibility for your decision and you let customers decide if they want to buy your product or not. You made your decision, own it and accept the results.

Absolutely. As I said above, understanding is not condoning.

I'd like to ask you a question. Did we need that blog post to explain to us why the developer took the money? Didn't we already know? If so, why was that blog post made?

Cool. Pretty sure I have some of them so I'll give them a shot. They always looked interesting to me but I'm usually wary of games from publishers that specialize in lower budget stuff.

Lol. Who cares, dude? He's free to write a blog post explaining his reasoning just as you're free to... not read it? Given the amount of vitriol that can surround these deals, I can kind of understand feeling the need to explain your decision.

please do - they're genuinely good ... janky and CLEARLY lower-budget ... but for what they are - they're absolutely great

"Who cares" is quite apt because it circles around to my point. The developer took the money. Why? Who cares. I'm a customer, I don't like it, I don't buy it. "Who cares" is an equally valid response for both sides of this argument, right?

Of what argument? That he... shouldn't have written a blog post? :huhblob:

And again, no one's telling you you have to buy the game. So I'm not sure why you keep bringing that up.

Watch this shit turn around and they blame the platform and people who play on PC on a series of tweets with all the pie charts and SKU comparison. There is no need for rationalizing if you did it for the money. As our local adage goes, "It's not a wrong decision if you are a person with integrity." Sounds better in our language just like if it is not exclusive on EGS lmao.

That the blog post matters either way. I will summarize. You said that people shouldn't be mad at the devs for taking an exclusivity deal. You said that the reactions to the blog post seemed salty to you. I asked you about the purpose of the post, you said "who cares why he wrote it" and I replied saying "who cares that he wrote it".

There are two main tendencies among posters as far as I can tell. There are those who were affected by the blog post in a positive way and their opinion of the developer has improved and there are those who were not affected by the blog post in a positive way and their opinion of the developer has worsened (as a result of the exclusivity deal). What you perceived as salt about the blog post is in my opinion a negative reaction towards the deal itself that was unaffected by the developer's attempt to explain his decision.

Jesus Christ, dude...

Think what you want. No offense but I'm just gonna peace out here. This pointless argument is a waste of time. Have a good one, buddy.

King's Bounty 2 delayed to August, I am not mad or disappointed. I could wait. I was about to get a heart attack when the game appeared in the Epic Games Store Spring Showcase but the Twitter account confirms that it will be released on Steam, GOG, and EGS. At the same time? I don't know. Fuck that noise if it is timed.

Man, I still don't know what to think of this. I loved the previous games, this change in style and possibly gameplay might be too jarring. I hope it turns out ok.

Didn't we already know that Axiom Verge 2 was going to EGS? Like a long time ago? Was it one of those "Coming to PC" things where the dev won't commit to at least steam, if not all platforms? I didn't think that was supposed to be a big reveal, and I sure don't have cool insider information. I thought this was known long ago.

There's a ton, I mean a ton of Hades fan art on twitter. I just clicked on the trend and it's just flooded. I'm afraid of those subreddits/sites dedicated to the weird stuff.

Oh hey, reminder: Unavowed by Wadjet Eye is really good

So among all this news the Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter (Suikdoen spiritual successor team) announced they are partnering with 505 games.

Just like Bloodstained did....and Death Stranding. Both of which they name drop in the video announcement.

505s track record on PC is a bit mixed these days... But I guess this game is still years away. No point I worrying yet.

it's not their track record i don't like ... it's their refusal to do regional pricing properly :negative-blob:
This was one of things I was referring to, but also they they handled Control Ultimate edition was pretty bad for people who bought the base game and Bloodstained was fine on initial release but the DLC has been kind of a cluster.
[UWSL] [/UWSL]
[UWSL] Thankfully I live in pricing privileged country, but it still sucks that they won't let more people play their games for prices that actual humans can afford. Though, 505 are hardly alone in that respect these days, sadly.[/UWSL]
