Hogwarts Legacy is a fairly easy boycott for me. Even before finding out her personal views I was never a fan of the books. I always too old for them. It's kind of like an Ubisoft boycott.

However I would say there is a difference between Andrzej Sapkowski being a bit of an arrogant arsehole and JK Rowlings vile bigotry. If the worst thing anybody can say about you is that you are a bit of an arsehole who doesn't understand gaming then I don't think you're doing to badly.

Disclaimer: I don'y know if there have been any more serious accusations against Andrzej Sapkowski and if there has been then I apologise for the above comments.

Now what I would suggest is instead of playing Hogwarts Legacy go and read the Witches books by Terry Pratchett. A particularly favourite series of mine and the later books do go into teaching new Witches. Plus Granny Weatherwax is a favourite character of mine. Alongside Sam Vimes. Outside of that read the Books of Magic by Neil Gaimen. But to be honest you should read most if not all of Neil Gaimen's works.

So I think I will be grabbing P3P, even though I still have Royale and P4G to go. While I am guessing it may be difficult to if not downrite impossible I am hoping Modders may be able to re-insert the anime cutscenes.

Thankfully video games have always been at the bottom of "disposable entertainment" for me just above movies, I don't even watch movies these days, while I do spend money on video games, I have absolutely no problem not spending money on them either. It's been more than a decade since last time I'm "hyped" over a game, it's a good perk to have with being cynical.

Is the source material filled with J.K. Rowling's views?
Yes.

Andrzej Sapkowski, the creator of Witcher, is not the greatest person. At least from what I know, he is not nearly on the level of Rowling, but he is still an arrogant, self-loving a-hole.
Being arrogant is very different to inciting and funding violence against a minority.

'm sure she will get royalties from this game, but by not buying the game you also hurt those who spend years developing the game. And we know what happens when the game underperforms - it's very often followed by the news of studio layoffs.
People still get laid off even after the studio makes record profits.

Even ignoring JK, the studio making the game is yet to make even one decent game, so...

I stopped caring about HP a long long time ago so ¯\(ツ)/¯.
But it still is a huge IP. The game is like the most wishlisted game game on steam and like in the top 10 sellers, just with those numbers it will have a strong launch so, if you think that buying the game is a bad thing then you don't buy it and that's it

I'm also in the boat where I don't have to consider whether or not to boycott the game since I'm not interested in it (or the franchise) in the first place.

I do feel like it will be a financial success though, just based on Steam metrics.

I feel people on the Internet need to realize that the average joe has no clue about JKs transphobia.

I have talked to people who have been part of pride marches that also loves HP and have no idea about JK.

I read on Twitter and ERA that "person plays HL" = "automatically a bad person"

This is a terrible way of thinking. Most people just want to get through their days, sleeping, working, eating, a bit of spare time and that's it. They don't have much time during the day.

And with the economy going to shit everywhere and middle class people in first world countrys starting to struggle, what opinions JK has about different things is not gonna be something they will use their time or even care about.

It sucks, but it's the truth.

I like the Harry Potter Universe, I read the books and have read dozens of fanfics cough (especially ones that show how fucked up some of the aspects or characters are)

There is a difference between disconnecting the artist from the art and supporting a media product that doubles down on the things that were even "not okay" 20 to 30 years ago.

So, fuck Hogwart's legacy.

Yeah, that's about what I'd expect from those places, tbh. I understand wanting to boycott the game over Rowling but you seriously need to live in a bubble to think that everyone is aware of it. Or that someone is terrible for buying it for, say, their kids. These people are just terminally online and are best ignored.

Personally, I couldn't care less about HP. I read the books years ago and enjoyed them but I'm not particularly attached to them. So even if the game turns out to get 10/10 everywhere, I'm still not really interested. And because of Rowling, I wouldn't even consider buying it until I can get it dirt cheap.

Wouldn't blame huge HP fans for buying it even knowing about Rowling, though. What other people do with their money is none of my business.

Just like with Koichi Sugiyama, the deal breaker for me for HL is that the person who benefits the most out of the financial success of the media piece is the one that uses their clout and wealth to make life miserable for folks who are already living in the world that it's out to get them every day.

Finished Mass Effect 2 again (Legendary Edition) but this time on Deck (i finished ME2 few years ago on PC) and i really enjoyed playing it on Deck. Game played beautifully with low power consumption (i could get around 4h) and looked great on Deck. And of course EA screwed things and never fixed them so i got 0 achievements for my playthrough because of the stupid EA app and apparently for now you can't unlock them retroactively. Oh well. Now bit of break and then i will finally play and finish Mass effect 3 for the first time XD

And i will say it again Mass Effect 1 > Mass Effect 2.

And regarding Hogwarts Legacy. I was always open that i will play game and i said multiple times both here and at other places that i stopped caring where money from my purchases is going because i would go insane. And i can't pick and chose which group of people is more or less worthy so i can base my purchasing decisions on that. Are minorities in China that are exploited less worthy than other groups so i can be fine with purchasing electronic devices that are probably assembled by those people that are paid nothing and in many cases exposed to toxic environment without protection? Is it fine to buy games where money is going to Chinese government that treat their citizens badly? Is it fine to by games from US companies that spend that money on politicians and other ways that impact people around the world not just in US (in some cases even financing wars)? Is it fine to spend money on games from developers like Activision Blizzard where suicide happened because of harassments inside company? Is it fine to buy food with questionably sourced ingredients? Where should we draw the line?

As much as it looks bad that JK is getting some money from Hogwarts Legacy i can guarantee you that your money is ending up in far worse places with or without your knowledge. That is why is stopped caring about that and started caring about people around me, people that i directly help when and if i can and because i was both raised in multicultural family and taught since i was a kid not to make any difference among people. That is why i am trying to be decent human being to everyone who i meet and know (and sometimes even get screwed because i can get naïve). And i would like to think that over the years from GAF to Era and now here i at least showed that to so some of you.

This person isn't explicitly saying if you play the game in a vacuum, you're a bad person. The context here implies if you're aware of the creator's hateful behavior, and is still fine with supporting them, people can judge you for it.

Do what you will with that information as you please, but there's no need to extrapolate it to something about people who are oblivious to this and just want to relax and play a game after a 10 hour work day are somehow deemed as bad people, because they simply aren't.

So Pathfinder Kingdmaker, it being a long game, does that include side activities or only things that requries the story to progress?

This is just one of the more notable accounts that popped up on my timeline with that sentiment. I did saw literally tweets that sad that if they see any of their followers or friends play the game that they are bad people and that they are done with them.

Also on not to bright side

How the f you screw this up too...

I agree with you in principle.
But Hogwarts Legacy isn't just a game inside a world from an awful author. It has values and themes from that awful author's view still on display.

I won't condemn anyone buying and playing the game, but I will boycott it and tell people why I boycott it.

But developers also went and even added things that author speak against. Character creator is one of it for example. And of course you have right to both do and speak what you wish. It's your life and your choices that should be respected and acknowledged. That is why i was open here and didn't hide behind Steam Invisible mode or hide in general that i intend to lay the game.
