I felt like playing another short game, and played through Max Payne for the first time. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The graphic novel cut-scenes, Max's narration, and the Noir ambiance goes a long way to setting the mood. It's an older game, but honestly the combat is very refreshing. Having access to several weapons in a Half-Life style inventory system feels really good. I may check out the sequel in the next few days.

Dota 2 is the greatest multiplayer game of all time.
It's absolute gamedesign perfection.
Incredibly high skill ceiling, tons of sandbox strategies, a fuckton of variety.

That said, i'm happy i don't play it anymore because that gameplay loop is pure cocaine.

i'm beginning to think those epic contracts literally only say "you can't release it on steam" ... and nothing else
Well, we knew they're fine with uplay "co-exclusives" and such, so it always seemed fairly obvious that they are exclusively interested in hurting steam.

Buy Metro Exodus (Windows) - Microsoft Store en-CA

It seems like Microsoft will be launching Xbox Game Pass for PC during their E3 conference. Metro Exodus just appeared on the Windows 10 store with the release date of June 9th (same day as MS Conference). Deep Silver was one of the partners listed on the PC game pass announcement.

So much for that Epic exclusivity amirite?
This is funny because IIRC the game was removed from the winstore the day of the heist.

Seems Deep Silver straight up lied when they said that Metro Exodus will be available on "other storefronts" in 2020. Also, afaik Microsoft is charging the "unreasonable" 30% cut as well. Once again this proves that Epic's moneyhats aren't meant to get better cuts for developers at all.

EGS games probably sell well only in like the first few weeks after launch. They don't have the playerbase to buy old games longterm like Steam does for years and years. They don't have the store and/or discovery tools in place for devs to succeed longterm. The fact that they had to do that 10$ off discount is telling enough. Gonna go down as one of the dumbest strategies ever. Not only is Sweeney paying devs for the rights to sell their games but also basically buying them from his own store as well. What a clown show.

The entire series is great. I think I finished Max Payne 1 three times (twice on PC and once... on the GBA), Max Payne 2 at least three times and Max Payne 3 twice.

(It's not my most played series, though. That crown goes to Metal Gear Solid... with a campaign/story completion count of: mgs1 - 16, mgs2 - 34, mgs3 - 2, mgs4 - unfinished, mgs5 - 1).

Max Payne 3 and Doom 2016 are two rare instances where initially I was highly skeptical and ended up loving the final product.

I wonder if Exodus sales are so bad on PC Deep Silver won't make a deal with Epic again? It seems the game has underperformed to the point where even the moneyhat didn't quite saved it.
We honestly don't know. We only know for sure that the absolute majority of Metro Exodus revenue came from consoles. That's not a good result for a franchise that used to be most popular on pc, but we don't know what Deep Silvers expectations were.

My guess is that only WWZ and Satisfactory are doing well on EGS, because these games appeal to the huge fanbase of L4D and Factorio. Other games like Close to the Sun and Operencia probably sold like shit. Epic's €10 cashback may have been rushed to prevent these games from flopping completely, which would cause hesitation for other devs and publishers to accept Epic's bribes.

I love Max Payne. I still remember where most enemies spawn, as I think I've played it like 20 times! The good old times when I had an abudance of time to play games, but not enough money to get more than 1-2 games per year :ROFLMAO:

The Matrix mod was amazing.

"I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings."
"I was in a computer game. For some reason, that was the most horrible thing I could think of."
"Everything is a chiclé until it happens to you".
"He had a baseball bat and I was tied to a chair. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do."

Quoting from memory, so they may be wrong. Glad you liked it! This game is one of my favorites of all time, and it was tons of memorable lines. It's good to know it still holds up, and it's not just my nostalgia talking.

Metro: Exodus is good, but I feel something is missing. It does not feel as good as 2033 and LL. Maybe the more open areas doesn't fit the series as much.

Maybe, part of what made Metro so special was the claustrophobic areas of the metro but that with the outdoor areas is missing, sure, there are bunkers and structured underground too but, not the same thing hehe

oh, this joke again -_-
People really do like suffering by anticipation. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Epic keeps getting all this free publicity.

I honestly can't get worked up about all this Epic crap any longer.
If a game I'm interested launches on a store I use, I'll get it. If Epic "steals" the game to their service, and since I have no desire to use it, I'll simply remove it from my wishlist, and turn to another game.
Why would I even bother "fearing" that a game may be an Epic exclusive in 6 months or so? Before anything is even announced?

I'm sorry, but no company, or video game, is worthy of making me get upset, or lose my cool over it. I have enough crap on my daily life to genuinely worry me or upset me, Epic can just suck it. :grimacing-face:

The thing is that I don't mind to wait X months, games will come at their time, but everyday the same thing is tiring, like for real, games are 12 months exclusive, so what? most of us only play a few games monthly, there's time in the future.

I don't see Epic getting many more exclusives to be honest. When it comes to indie games, many of those developers are now well aware of the huge backlash that comes from going exclusive and are using their non-exclusivity status as marketing point, some more indies who really like or need those upfront money will surely accept, but I don't think they'll be many. The same partially applies to triple-A games as well, with the addition of other big titles supposedly not selling particularly well on the Epic Store, I can see some Ubisoft-like deal happening for publishers with their own launcher or some short-term exclusivity because "sure, give us money, why not?" like the one 2K made, but other than that, I honestly can't see many publishers jumping on board now.

Some other deals will occur, but exclusivity won't be as impactful and disruptive as I expected when the Epic Store launched.

Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic.

I am very thankful for the ability to completely turn off the narrator because holy shit

Also what is it with hands on gameplay for this game and trying to make the ugliest fucking gerbils possible as if they're a youtuber doing a Dark Souls playthrough?

I'm afraid you're being too optimistic. Exclusivity is the ONLY reason why anyone would use Epic's Store. If devs and publishers start hesitating, Epic will just rise their bribe. So yeah, I expect several new exclusives (both AAA and from popular indies) being announced at the PC gamer show and in the next few months (or even years) going forward.

That doesn't mean we should stop boycotting EGS of course. Only this way will Epic bother to improve their store and do pro-consumer stuff like the recent firesales, and other companies will think twice before buying exclusivity as well.

Same way you retrool Tenchu into Sekiro.

Doesn't mean they kept much just that they started on that project and ended up doing something wholly different. Maybe art style and assets can carry over.
