Anyone else looking forward to the Stadia announcement in a few hours today?

My connection is far from ready yet for game streaming, and I highly doubt my region will be supported from the get go anyway. But still, I'm quite excited for that. It's like we're about to witness the dawn of a new age of gaming.

only to see what new games we'll be able to play on steam :P

"Bungie has had to find a new store for its shooter. PC gamers will be pleased to note that Destiny 2 will soon be available on Steam, and can migrate their progress and purchases over for free".

That's all you had to say.

i did :P haha

still - interesting if true

See!

I am excited for it when enough games support cross-platform saves. That would be the killer feature to me. No need for a gaming laptop anymore, continue your new game on a tablet.

I'm interested to see how it'll work, although my home connection isn't great and I doubt it'll launch in Italy right away.
Once it launches, though, I might try it, mostly to see if I could play something during lunch break at work :grinning-face:

and seems like amazon pushed the button too soon

Ah Quake 2 RTX is out, day saved despite no Toki.

And does that mean we'll get Destiny 2 itself for free on Steam if we bought it before? Or only in-game purchases? I assume the latter. Got it for a good price a while ago but never played, main reason being that it was on bnet which I never launch, might get into it more when on Steam. But rebuying? Depends on price.

edit: Missed the f2p part.

One thing I'm surprised is that they seem to going to abandon Battle.net entirely, which is actually something I didn't expect lol. Not sure why Activision even bothered to rename the section on Battle.bet to "partner games " lol

Rumor says you actually have to buy new games for Google Stadia on top of the subscription fee. I'm gonna laugh out loud if that's true.

Surely they'll have a (rotating) selection of games that come with the sub...

Not quite. There's a free subscription for use on purchased games, although it's coming later.. paid subscription has games included and higher quality of video

A selection of older games, yes. It seems many people were expecting a gamepass-like subscription with new games as well.

Agreed. But the idea of "buying" games on a streaming service doesn't appeal to me at all.

Yeah. I personally think buying specific titles on streaming services is usually a bad idea in general, but even more so here given Google's tradition of dumping services in a couple of years if doesn't blow up on popularity.

But I'm just a spectator in all of this because even if it's a success Stadia won't be available in my corner for a long time.

Destiny on Steam means that I will play it. I own it on Battle.net but since I never opened it I forgot it existed. Also I like to imagine Tim Sweeney being pretty mad that Steam still gets big releases despite his moneyhatting barrage.
I will certainly give a try since I was always curious about it. The F2P model is the big question though. In any case the Borderlands 3 exclusivity deal gave them a great window to get the Steam userbase. Hope they take advantage of it.

I mean, obviously they couldn't offer brand new games without the subscription being horribly overpriced. .

Personally I'm actually a fan of subbing an buying games. Specifically, I'm a fan of the GeForce Now approach. You just login to your PC digital store of preference like Steam, Uplay or whatever and play your library there. It makes it so you don't have to worry about ownership issues or the games disappearing if the service shuts down.

Destiny 2 on Steam? Fuck yeah!

Edit: "PC gamers will be pleased to note that Destiny 2 will soon be available on Steam, and can migrate their progress and purchases over for free. "

Does that mean than I don't need to rebuy the stuff that I have bought on Battle.net?

I'm actually impressed that Sniper Ghost Warrior still going at this point.

I mean, Tim hasn't many reasons to be happy right now. Outer Worlds and Metro Exodus going to MS Store, Ubisoft probably doing their own subscription service, plus MS announcing that they will fully support Steam in the future isn't helping him.

Maybe I'm a petty motherfucker but I hope Stadia crashes and burn so bad nobody will attempt something similar in the forseeable futue. They add 0 value and take away a lot of freedom from the customers.
I mean Google's just going to quietly shutter it a few years down the line anyway, i don't see the point of buying in with their track record.

Eh, more options isn't a bad thing and steaming is several decades away from being the only option. And some services like GeForce Now or Shadow PC already eliminate some of the major issues with it.

Not having the ability to mod and tweak my games makes Stadia automatically bad in my view.

I assume I can't use cheats/trainers either as I won't have access to any config files or "game values".

I only have a character at endgame of the base game. So it'd be nice to continue from there on Steam to enjoy the year 1 season pass.
