Both. So far the only place that Serious Sam 4 can be bought from is just from Steam directly.

Just seems weird for this kind of game?
I guess, but you need to ask Devolver for that, they are free to let 3rd party stores sell Steam keys or put the game on GOG and/or EGS (unless Epic would only let the game on their store if it was exclusive).

Or maybe they feel Steam directly will cover everything so they don't bother? Who knows.

Yeah I have a feeling this is perhaps a way to keep prices artificially higher.
Certainly £31 is a little bit rich for my blood for this game.

Yeah. I like the game a lot but around an hour for a mission is the sweet spot for me.
I don't even mind it that much since the length but as someone who mainly plays for 30 minute to 1 hour sessions at a time it breaks the flow of how I play a bit :steam_cleanseal:

Just finished mission 6
the Blow up the Dam one - Eagle Falls

It took me 1hr21min over 3 sessions and yeah i much prefer to do a whole mission in one go. Life sometimes get in the way. Stupid real life obligations.

I still love the after mission replay.

Yikes @ those Bamco prices for the weekend sale. Was expecting much lower for NNK, Berseria and Code Vein.

Well I know what I won't be purchasing during the summer sale now.

Speaking of which...is there any word on when Horizon goes up for sale/preorder? Will it be b4 the summers sale? I am starting to really consider picking it up. Which is crazy since I own the complete edition on PS4 but never played more than 10hrs of it. I just wanna see how good the PC port is tho. If Guerrilla can get it at 60+ fps and its well optimized I will bite. Its that or Detroit but I am really not a fan of that 35$ price tag for Detroit.

I feel like it shouldn't stop them from being discounted again during the sale, but just wanted to see if anyone can confirm either way.

But either way its highly unlikely they are gonna be lower than what they are now. So if you planned on buying any of those bamco games you might as well do it now.

Also a small extra note: when something is on sale before the sale begins, there's a small chance that in the opening minutes of the sale the discount will be doubled, so keep an eye out :peekphotoblob:

I also apparently won a EA racing game but the email automatically went into my trash (funny) so if someone won Inquisitor and wants to trade it for Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Because it's obviously most wanted, Yeah I'm also aware the chance of that happening is basically 0% but I can ask still)

12 chests left in Supraland. Now the fun (ie. obcessive) part begins... I know the exact location of three remaining chests, but I have no idea how to reach the first one, while the second one is blocked by a tough puzzle, and the last one is the award of a survival minigame.

Didn't see a thread about the Steam Summer Game Festival so I'll post some impressions on some demos I played:

Windjammers 2: Had a lot of fun with the game. It looks very vibrant thanks to the artstyle and yeah, the game can be a nail-biter just like the first one. I hope the online is decent enough for folks to play and hopefully crossplay between PC and consoles.

Neon Abyss: it's more akin to Enter The Gungeon and Nuclear Throne where it's a twin stick shooter platformer. It can be very fun and challenging at times and I think there may be something a bit special with it. If you're looking for the next addicting roguelite game, definitely keep an eye on this.

30xx: The sequel to 20xx. If the pixelated artstyle is here to stay for the final version, then already it looks better than 20xx. It's a pre-alpha version so it isn't gonna wow anyone just yet but for fans of 20xx and Mega Man games, this seems like it'll be an enjoyable sequel. Level design looks more thought out than before. Again, too early to tell but this is definitely on the wishlist.

I just wrote a blog post for the first time in checks 9 freaking years about all the demos I played. Looks like I can just copy paste it here and save you from having the inconvenience of clicking open to another tab, but I'll link it in case the formatting is nicer for you: Steam Game Festival Summer Edition Demos

15 demos, 3 of which I'll probably pre-purchase or day-1, another 5 of them I'll keep my eye on and maybe dive in, the rest weren't bad (mostly) but they're low on my list right now.

[UWSL]Cris Tales[/UWSL]

I had already had this on my wishlist, I liked the premise described and it looked beautiful from the screenshots. It’s an RPG at the core, with a time manipulation gimmick – you can see the past on the left third of the screen, and the future on the right third, and in combat you can force enemies either into the past (and then back to present) or future (and again, bring them back). You can use this to do things like poison enemies and fast-forward them (essentially) to make them take more damage.

It practice, it ended up feeling pretty straightforward in combat. In addition to that, the normal attacks and defense has a “sweet spot” button press to parry / block or crit, which I felt conflicted with the otherwise slow, turn-based combat. Not technically required but seems like combat would be incredibly slow and painful without it, and kind of tedious with it.


[UWSL]Fights in tight spaces[/UWSL]

This one I hadn’t heard of. It is a deck-building game a la Slay the Spire, in a style reminiscent of SUPERHOT, and plays out in small-room tactical grid combat encounters. You control a person using your cards to move and push or strike other enemies, and defend yourself. Each level is a point along a path, again very much like Slay the Spire.

The cards themselves didn’t seem too balanced, but it is an early demo. Strike cards seemed much weaker than all the push/shove options. Also, again like Slay the Spire, the map “choices” aren’t really choices, they’re just random encounters with no information offered so the only choice you have is if you want to go to the health stop or gym (which let you tweak your deal & heal or add/upgrade cards respectively). I think if they make the choices more like actual choices, it could have some potential.


[UWSL]Trepang2[/UWSL]

This feels like someone really liked FEAR and got annoyed the OG FEAR team hadn’t made another FEAR game, so they figured out how to make this as a spiritual successor.

It’s janky right now, and one of the things that made FEAR so great was how tight everything was, so that definitely needs to be polished before release. It also weirdly has some stealth mechanics thrown in but they are mostly optional and seem to be a tool to let you reposition and re-ambush in a fight.


[UWSL]Ghostrunner[/UWSL]

This is a one-hit-you’re-dead first person platformer and sword slasher, in a cyberpunk setting. Again, janky is the feeling I got while playing it, for a game like this you’d want really good feedback, tightness of the rules and feel and control, and I just didn’t get that. I might keep an eye on it, as a fast fun game like this would be nice, but I wouldn’t get it as-is.


[UWSL]Grounded[/UWSL]

A survival / crafting game with a narrative, where you and anyone co-oping were shrunk down to insect size in an unknown yard. You have to gather materials, craft stuff, fight off dangers, and figure out what is going on.

It looks nice, and the core mechanics are there. I can’t put my finger on it but it just didn’t feel quite right. Something in the gathering-inventory-crafting cycle was not great. Again, a “wait and see” title for me, and I don’t think I’d go for it solo anyway.


[UWSL]Going Under[/UWSL]

This game is madness. It’s an action dungeon crawler roguelike where you’re an intern at some startup and the items / enemies / powerups are all start up themed, failed or otherwise, as you descend through the dungeon and find apps to use and items to wield to bash Joblins.

It was fun but I’m not entirely sure how much depth it has. I might get it for the right price, or if the full release has a lot more going on.


[UWSL]Raji: An Ancient Epic[/UWSL]

An isometric action game based on Indian mythology, following a girl who is trying to rescue her brother after they were attacked by demons. Kind of nice, nothing too special but it’s nice to see a new take and it’s produced / developed by an Indian team.


[UWSL]Haven[/UWSL]

A sci-fi co-op (two person) narrative crafting RPG adventure? You play as two lovers who are running from somewhere and are stranded on a strange alien planet. You have to gather food and energy, explore, calm critters, and work as a team. Seemed nice.


[UWSL]Fallen Angel[/UWSL]

Initial impressions was this is a direct knock-off of Hyper Light Drifter, but as I got farther it differentiated itself at least a little bit. Isometric-ish action combat game, using melee / dashes / ranged attacks. The angle actually made some of the combat and platforming a bit awkward but it is somewhat forgiving. Would give it a real shot.


[UWSL]Exo One[/UWSL]

An atmospheric exploration game where you are a futuristic space-sphere-probe using gravity manipulation to accelerate down hills, launch off them, glide, jump, and explore. Seems to have a narrative. Played it twice. Annoyed it’s not out right now to buy.


[UWSL]Solasta: Crown of the Magister[/UWSL]

This is basically Baldur’s Gate 5th edition, by a different team. It played really nicely and looked great. I would definitely play more of it.


[UWSL]The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos[/UWSL]

A tactical RPG with a set cast of characters, based on the writings of a French novelist that parodies common fantasy tropes. It definitely had a humorous bent, but I felt like some of it was wearing thin even in the demo. Also not sure I’m interested in a tactics RPG with just set characters.


[UWSL]The Last Spell[/UWSL]

Another tactical RPG (after years of none, we really are in a renaissance for this genre), however this is a roguelike city defense against zombie hordes. Not totally dissimilar from They Are Billions but with tactical RPG trappings. Felt pretty brutal but there was some fun there.


[UWSL]Spiritfarer[/UWSL]

Not 100% how to describe this – a 2D platformer, with base building (your boat), as you are a ferrymaster to the deceases. The store description probably makes more sense than anything original I could write. It’s another beautiful game, and felt nice, and seemed lovely. I will definitely be checking it out.




[UWSL]Occupy Mars: The game[/UWSL]

A take on a realistic Mars colonization / survival game. I didn’t play much of the demo because the controls are abysmal and there’s almost no direction and it’s pretty easy to just die. The devs said the tutorial will be heartier in the full game. Looks like it will be single player, not sure if narrative at all or only sandbox.

I was initially impressed by Cris Tales, but then I saw the gameplay demo, and finally tried the demo. The combat is too slow and repetitive.

I took it off my whistlist.

For clarity, as I sort of wrote that blog in a more general audience mindset, I'm definitely grabbing:

  • Exo One. This had been on my list and I absolutely loved my two 10-minute playthroughs and just wanted more.
  • Solasta. I don't remember if I'd had it on my list, but I've been missing IRL D&D and having a faithful adaption (even if I've never played 5th Edition myself) would be fun.
  • Spiritfarer. This was new to me but felt great and seemed like a definite win.

The "probably with a little bit of polish" list is:
  • Fallen Angel. It really felt like a budget Hyper Light Drifter but HLD remains one of my GOAT so I'm willing to check it out. Also I'm sad about Heart Machine taking the EGS payout.
  • Haven. It felt a little loose but it could be fun with my gf, who plays some games a bit (OK a lot) more casually than I. Hopefully it stays a cutesy romance and not too much of that passive aggressive dialogue gets in.
  • Fights in Tight Spaces. I liked it overall but I really dislike how little choice you have in... everything. That feels too much like the stuff I didn't like about Slay the Spire, which after playing Neoverse I never really went back to. Also the balance of the "types" was way way off (strikes were very weak, deck manipulation was awful, really only defense and shoving was good).
  • The Last Spell. I don't want it to end up like They Are Billions where it's fun briefly and then entirely repetitive / stressful, but the first couple days were fun. The third day was oof and I decided to stop after that as I didn't really see the point in progressing when there's no progression or much to learn yet. Again, balance felt off but this kind of game, early on, it's going to be.
  • Raji. It just needs some polish and I think it'll be a solid like 7/10 or 8/10 entry, the novelty of the setting is what really has me interested.
  • Trepang2. This needs more polish, I still mostly enjoyed it but it was despite a lot of that jank. I mean I'll probably still buy it because it's a FPS that is actually a FPS and after Doom Eternal and HL:A those kind of games need to be supported since doesn't seem like AAA companies are making them anymore.

Edit: With Cris Tales, this is something I've noticed in every RPG I've dipped into lately, and it goes back to the start of the genre, it just didn't stand out as much. But they ALL start off being very repetitive, slow, and bland, and it's a byproduct of the RPG concept of "expand almost exponentially over time". Action RPGs somewhat bypass this by being scaled much faster, and generally being built to be faster (although I still think Grim Dawn and PoE fail at this, they have always felt extremely repetitive and boring to me). Cris Tales feels like it might get really good after like, 4 hours or something, but it's hard to know, and I don't think I have the time or energy to dedicate to it. My replay of Final Fantasy IX has stalled out because after 5 hours, using the fast forward feature, it's still incredibly slow, simple combat and I know that gets better eventually.

With tabletop RPGs like Solasta, even though you sort of start off very limited, the complexity of the mechanics makes it feel more interesting and each level (even if you aren't leveling often) is huge so that opens up tons of stuff. Plus in IRL tabletop RPGs you have all the actual RPG / social things going on.

Currently in the mission after that. It is the first mission that had one point where I felt I had to retry until I get a certain AI behavior but still great after that.

Time for a final round of impressions. 0-5 scale again for how likely it is I'm going to give it a look later on.

Is UnMetal a parody of something? I can't tell. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye: A little clunky in spots, straight up potty humor which is not for everyone, but some fun touches with the use of items and stealth-ish gameplay. UnEpic seemed to be well regarded way back when, so maybe there will be more to it come launch. I certainly saw tons of rooms for goodies in that inventory screen. It doesn't seem to be tickling my nether regions, but it seems well done. 2/5


Childhood nostalgia, cutesy-pensive indie adventure game (stop me if you've heard that one before) but hey, it's some pikmin fun with cool art and a chill vibe to it. At first I thought it was going to be super boring, but it grew on me once I started juggling more of the spritelings and crafting new stuff. Ambivalent would be the word on this; I hate when games force me to halt progress to have me "discover" their point through dream sequences and whatnot, and why give me a kick move if I can't use it on enemies?! but if they ramp up the puzzles and go nuts on the minion juggling, I might be willing to follow you along your metaphorical childhood trauma essay. 3/5


Back in the day, other than Age of Empires 2 custom maps, the Stronghold games used to be the go to RTS for the massive scale sieges we all love. The demo is a simple representation of that experience with very straight forward objectives. It's also a bit rough, doesn't even have a pause menu for instance, and tearing bothered me a bit too much to see it all the way through. I'm glad the series is still around in some form, even though it hasn't changed much other than historical settings. 1/5


Gorgeous classic-Prince-of-Persia-inspired adventure game. Raji stands out thanks to its incredible art and storytelling. Combat is a bit clunky and there are a few missing animations imo (when climbing, and combat reactions mostly) which take away a bit from its otherwise strong package. Can see the combat getting repetitive and hopefully the platforming gets creative and the challenge increases, otherwise it might turn out one of those games where you trod along for its rich storytelling and little else. I like the radial HP meter under characters which results in minimal clutter, and the main character rocks. 3/5


Really short demo, but really neat and disturbing Kafkian concept. There's always a joy in exploring environments and objects at such a scale and perspective. Will definitely keep an eye out. 4/5


One of the most talked about demos already, so not really much to say. Good looking first person runner in a cyberpunk setting; the kind of game that reminds you how much you suck at videogames. 16:23 is good time, right? 😭 3/5


This is the last demo I played overall, and damn, what a way to close. First up, it looks fantastic, probably the most striking of all the games I tried (even with its furry affectations), it's an incredibly well written point and click detective adventure game, nails the ambience, the characters, the seedy underbelly feel, and it really gives the illusion of doing actual PI work: winging it to see if you can get that last bit of important information or striking out if you mishandle a situation or contact. And boy, it goes places. You got me game. 5/5


Neon fueled side-scrolling shooter rogue lite. We've all played dozens of games that include some parts of this whole, yet I continue to be amazed at the things people can do with pixel art. Looks great, sounds nice, I'm sure it will have tons of items and guns and bosses, and 'press E to do cool thing' moments. Didn't think I'd like it going from the cover art and preview screens, but the background art won me over. If Enter the Gungeon is anything to go by, I'll give it a go if it ends up on gamepass. Are those the aliens from Metal Slug? 3/5


Another medieval fantasy tactical RPG, but it's got a unique style, kinda like a D&D Arcade vibe going for it. I didn't quite get this was going to be pixel graphics from quickly browsing the screenshots, but it looks decent up close. Of all the demos I tried, this one seems to be the more mechanically robust game so far (maybe because it gives you the most tools to try upfront). Careful strategy and placement seems essential for its hexa-grid based combat, although it's not entirely unforgiving, and there are other systems to manage outside of battle, including text events with choices (no D&D-like stat rolls that I could see), diplomacy and risk vs reward traveling mechanics. One of the surprises of the bunch for sure, it is definitely the one to go for if you prefer the synergistic strategy combat component. Unfortunately the pixel graphics also result in tiny, hard to read blurry text and there seems to be a lot of it. 4/5


Multidimensional puzzle box game is somehow not an accurate enough way to describe it. I hope you enjoy boxes inside boxes inside boxes that are also the boxes you are already in. Fuck this game. It's so good, I felt my head was gonna explode. 5/5


Alright this game is cool. Straight up tabletop, handcrafted, create your own adventure P&P RPG with a popup book aesthetic, like Book of Demons or Epistory. Seems like it has robust creation tools and I like the look of the The-Room-like contraptions and construction of the overworld. The lighter tone suits it, and the workshop support means it won't be shackled to only medieval fantasy, as the character pool previews. Remains to be seen how much community support it gets, 'cause I don't see myself fiddling too deeply with a creation suite of this kind. I also found it a bit more challenging than you would expect from how it looks. Seems there is an incremental power background system to encourage tons of runs. Don't know about that. 2/5


Point and click atmospheric adventure game in a well realized, beautiful Scandinavian setting. The demo is too short to have any real opinion, but it seems like your typical indie adventure similar to wild at heart; lost child in the woods, deep scary evil lurking, sorrowful profound sadness, put thing and thing together to make new thing and solve puzzle. Could be great. I love the journal UI. 2/5

Oof, there were still tons of games I didn't get to try. But I had fun with the self imposed marathon. It's easy to forget just how diverse the game offerings are, even with the algorithm working overtime to show me similar stuff, I can't say two games I tried were very much alike even when cutting from the same cloth. I know a ton of these games are not going to make it, but I'd like to think they all got a real chance at finding that one person for whom they are the perfect fit. There has never been a better time to game on PC. :dualbladesblob:

Yeah I've got the same question about Troubleshooters. Its discount is ending today, but I bet they won't be in the Steam sale, it would just make too much sense :so-good-blob:
