I really wish I didn’t have the temperament that I do of “I bought it so I will beat it” as Shenmue 3 is fucking awful 😒
I thought that was already known that the game is not good at all? Did you not check out the review?
Personally I feel life is too short, If a game is not fun , i will play something else.

Do you think that Respawn will ever use Source Engine again? By which I mean possibly use Source Engine 2? Or will they just still to using Unreal Engine (possibly even using Frostbite?)

They went with Source since they would be able to get 60fps on the PS3 is what they said and they did modify it and stuck with it. Doesn't Source have some unique features that make it "feel" like Source, and if they did do another APEX or Titanfall thing, it might loose it's "feel".


Will others possibly end up using it, or will it just be something that only Valve ends up using.

Also are there a lot of cross platform games that let you play on PC, PS4 and N/S yet?


Since I do want to play some games with my cousin but I don't think he has a PC but does have the various consoles that are out right now.

In reference to one of my previous posts of the past few days another steam reviews tool appeared on twitter thanks once again to Lars Doucet.


The key on this tool is the behaviour of players after they leave a review, either is positive or negative and as seen in Persona 4 Golden, it is incredible to see people kept playing after leaving a negative review. And that wasn't just a minority, seemed like a majority according the graph except for the shortest case 0-2 hours played segment.




I won't post the behaviour for positive reviews for two reasons. One, you can check for yourselves on the link above and second because they don't seem quite a surprise in contrast to the negative reviews behaviour.

No they won't will probably keep using unreal for the bigger games like JFO while Source for Apex.

Frostbite, I don't think so.

I've also played a few demos:


Quite interesting. Though right now it's impossible to complete the demo with a controller, since at least one binding does not exist, and I wasn't in the mood to fiddle, so I abandoned it before finishing it. Still, interesting.


Quirky 2D hack and slash. What I played was fun, but it could get old quick unless there's more to it later on.


This was cool. Colorful turn-based RPG with a time manipulation gimmick both in and out of combat. Has potential. Though the first boss fight got boring quick since it went on for way too long - hopefully they hear the feedback.

Cris Tales has a good art style, but I got bored with the whole walking around town for 15 minutes. Then the fight just dragged on forever. I ended up just quitting midway. ¯\(ツ)

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. My best guess would be investment/completionism — based on my own experience. Sometimes I don’t play games for fun. Maybe that’s why I’m so cranky 😭

I’ve “hate played” a few games largely because I had already played so much of it that I might as well strap in for the final stretch. Or to get a complete picture of a game I dislike. The former seems like it tracks with the positive correlation between time played and relative share of reviewers playing after a negative review. The ratio for 0-2 hours is presumably a factor of the refund window. You can find (tenuous) support of that in comparison to Crucible, a F2P game, where the trend is generally consistently a factor of time played across the board. Though it also provides an argument that it isn’t completionism, since there’s no completing a multiplayer game. Perhaps there are more representative predictions to be drawn from cross genre comparisons.

I do wonder why 24 hours was chosen and if the ratio of continue vs. stop increases, decreases or doesn't change significantly given a larger window.
There's some interesting player behavior testing that could be done here if more granular data is available. I bet Valve has a lot of fun untangling this stuff. With respect to multiplayer games, it would be interesting to see the trend wrt having one or more friends playing the game, etc.

Brief ([UWSL]:LOL:[/UWSL]) impressions of demos I managed to play this weekend. Will score them 0-5 in terms of likelihood I'll play them again in their final version. (Long post, can be safely skipped).

I didn't quite expect Grounded to get my attention, but it did. I'm not a survival game guy, although I'll play the odd one here and there, but this game seems to be hitting the right notes for what it is. It's got the right style and performance was good. It's backed by a good studio, and could turn into something. Remains to be seen how much there is to it in the future, but being a gamepass game it's a very safe bet to try. 4/5


I like Everspace a lot, although I haven't really dedicated it as much time as I probably wanted to so far. It seems to be expanding on the same ideas, and there is quite a lot to like already, It looks great (performance still iffy; understandably) but also it's gonna be a full year on EA, so no rush to get back to it. It's the kind of game that I can forget about and be ready to jump back in closer to full launch. 5/5


Never did play Bomber Crew, but I saw a few streams here and there and this seems to be in the same vein with a few twists. This game doesn't play around, and requires you to be full speed all the time, with about 30 different things you need to be paying attention to and a good amount of difficulty. The setting is much more appealing to me than WWII bombing runs, but there are a few things here and there that don't convince me 100%. The second coming of FTL this is not. 3/5


Destroy all Humans feels exactly like what it is, an old gen quirky, simple comedy action game to spend a weekend with when bored. Sometimes that's just enough. I'm not a in a rush to support a THQ Nordic published game tho, so it's the kind of game you'll wait to fall into your hands in the form of a free key, free weekend or sub service extra. 1/5


Solasta is one of the cute surprises of the bunch. It's a D&D through and through experience, which seems to want to recreate the ruleset with a good attention to detail, and does a good job of it for the most part. Seems to be in the early stages of development still, and the dialogue/story feel disappointingly too boiler plate, almost like a random generated adventure you'd find in some old "my first D&D adventure book" with little personality beyond that. The voice acting doesn't get in the way at least, and even with the above caveats, it seems to be ambitious enough to warrant a look from enthusiasts. Had to stop playing because my GPU started misbehaving with it for some reason. Exploded geometry and light issues that I've not seen with any other game ever, so I don't know what that was about. 3/5


Haven is very much not my kind of game, but the artstyle was appealing enough for me to at least give it a try. It seems like it will come good for people looking for that experience, i.e. VN + chill adventure, good voice acting performances and a relationship centered story. Alas, not even the great music in the demo could make me change my mind. 2/5


Arcanium is definitely one of the more polished games from the bunch. A mix of Adventure game with card battles is definitely up my alley... yet, at the same time, it's one of the demos that I just dropped and uninstalled without bothering to see it through. Something about the card based combat didn't feel engaging, maybe it was my mood at the time or something, but I walked away a bit disappointed. It looks good, seems to be most of the way there already, it knows what it is and people will probably like it. Me? Just didn't grab me. 3/5


Riftbreaker is one of, if not THE highlight of the list so far. Damn, that was fun. A mecha-action twin stick shooter with RTS-like base building mechanics and a lot of aliens to blow up is a great combo. Voice acting is good, environments are surprisingly interactive in a fun way (love burning forests down) and there are a ton of toys to play with. My only gripe is that swarms of enemies kinda blend with the background a bit too much, but enemies are highlighted during combat and even though the art is a bit too busy, it's not bothersome enough to be a deal breaker. I can't imagine anyone who played the demo and didn't wish-list to keep an eye on it. Fun. 5/5


Hand of Merlin is an interesting game. I would call it a text adventure-lite, RPG-lite, board game-lite, rogue-lite lite. The mix of Arthurian legend setting with horror elements is unique enough, although it doesn't seem to be doing much else of its own. In the end, it will be all about the balance of the runs, items and skills and if they can make it fun enough for repeated runs. Hard to judge other aspects of the game. It's not a looker, the writing had a bit more personality than Solasta's, the UI needs a few art and usability passes and the one music track was good. I don't know, I hope they can get it where it needs to be. 2/5


Going Under is definitely the more unique game I've seen in a while, at least when it comes to setup. A comedy dungeon crawler that takes place in the world of tech startups is certainly a creative pitch, and they are having fun with it. It runs the risk of the joke running stale after a while, but I think it will be one of the most talked about games of the bunch and it will be a good time. 2/5


Garden Story is one of those lovely adventure games where you can just tell how much they were influenced by certain old school games, and how much love they put into making it look cute and endearing. That said, it's not my jam at the moment, so I didn't see the demo through, but it will have its fans. 3/5


Fae Tactics is a Tactics game. Seems to be doing most of it right from what I could see, and I think it stands out, There is something not quite right about its looks, almost like it can't be bothered to look like how you would expect it to, that makes it interesting. The blend of disparate art and looking both like a PS era reject and modern pixel art indie is actually charming. 3/5


Dungeon of Naheulbeuk is probably the most polished demo I tried next to Grounded. A comedy, self deprecating RPG is nothing new, and neither is what it brings to the table in terms of its isometric, turn based, class based strategy CRPG composition but I had fun with it. Long fun, considering the demo is about 90 minutes long. There is something to be said about just giving you the straight up common place characters (all of them at the same time!) and letting it do its thing (and boy does it enjoy listening to itself talk), but I was somehow impervious to how redundant its comedy bits were, or how samey its simplified D&D ruleset was. Maybe it's the un-challenging construction of it that makes it just that much easier to parse and digest than the more creative offerings above. 4/5

As someone who LOVED Shenmue I & II, let me be very clear: Shenmue III is not good.

Even the fans are divided on it. You have the apologists who can't accept it's a bad game because they've invested years of emotions (and in some cases, cash) into making it happen and are blinkered. And then you have the haters who are bitterly disappointed because they've made a similar or greater investment and it hasn't lived up to expectations.

It's just a shame all around.

Isn't Outer wilds a short game tho? Do we know how long they played before reviewing?
If the game is short then you may stop playing a couple of hours after reviewing it because the game ended.
Or if it's a long game and you played most of it before reviewing and then the end was only an hour or so away so you stopped.

( I haven't clicked the link so i don't know if playtime/length is analyzed )

Though the game is so new, "stopped playing" may just be "haven't played it again since reviewing, also week-end".

Isn't Outer wilds a short game tho? Do we know how long they played before reviewing?
If the game is short then you may stop playing a couple of hours after reviewing it because the game ended.
Or if it's a long game and you played most of it before reviewing and then the end was only an hour or so away so you stopped.

That's a good point but there is no way to finish it without putting in at least 10 hours in my opinion.

I might go back to a game if the devs have been patching the game or a significant amount of time has passed. I can be forgetful, so being unable to remember what annoyed me about a game is commonplace after a year or two.
I can also be bad tempered with a short fuse, so I know well that sometimes games get put down because of me and not the game.

Ohhhhh. Steam won't let me post a review of Outer Wilds. Sneaky buggers. They know what I'm up to. (Not a spoiler: I do not like it)

I'm the total opposite, I'll walk away from a game no matter where I am in regards to game progress or time spent if it pisses me off too much. I got far too many games I could be playing to be playing anything I don't like.

I might go back to a game if the devs have been patching the game or a significant amount of time has passed. I can be forgetful, so being unable to remember what annoyed me about a game is commonplace after a year or two.

Oddly, I've stopped playing more games that I just kind of grew bored with than ones that I actively disliked. No idea why.

It sucks so hard Ace Combat 7 never (so far) received PCVR support like PSVR did. Have yet to buy it because of that. I know the VR mode isn't a particularly long or big mode (about 2 hours more or less), but I really want it.

Well I guess I at least have Elite Dangerous and the upcoming SW Squadrons, but without VR I feel I will be buying an incomplete game and I don't like PSVR despite owning it due to the inferior technology so I won't buy it there.

Fuck timed exclusivity. Timed exclusivity also killed RE7 PCVR.

People probably just started playing the game and some already reviewed it and will continue playing it in the future.
Other people might already have played it on another platform and just bought it a second time because they really liked it. For example this review:

Overall I think that this statistic is more useful weeks or month after the release.

I don't know why that review has like 5 entries there now. Guess it's me deleting a review that I wanted to edit but I got the "84" error message every time. Don't understand why we can't manually remove stuff from the feed. If it's going to be automatic, it should at least work issue free.

Do you write long reviews?

Try posting just a few sentences, then after it is posted editing in the rest. I had to do this twice over the last year to get longer reviews to work. It's quite ridiculous.

Edit: Oh, if you get to the "This review is awaiting analysis" part then this is probably not it. I think when I experienced this issue it already stopped before that.

I get that as well sometimes. It's either "We encountered a problem while posting your review. Please try again later." (Later never works.) When that happens, posting a shorter review and then editing it for the full text will work usually, like you said.

But sometimes, when you try to edit a review (either a longer one or a short one like the aforementioned case), it'll say "there was an error trying to process your request: 84." In my experience, that review can now not be edited again. I've let it sit for a while to edit later, but that message still pops up when you try to save your edits. The solution is usually to delete the review and post a new one. But then you get a duplicate entry on the activity feed, it seems. Also annoying!

I would have liked this game a lot, and wishlisted it, if it wasn't for the writing. I'm very much not "impervious" to it. It doesn't help that the demo was literally just a giant tutorial, allowing me to skip ahead would have also helped. As it stands, that's a hard pass from me.

You know you're spoiled by great RPGs, if you can just ignore one if the writing annoys you a bit.

Yeah, Naheulbeuk is the most polished demo I've tried in this event that's not Grounded. They put a lot of work into the game, from the visuals, animation, systems, and voice acting. The writing (there's barely any story yet in the demo) seems pretty unique and tongue in cheek, which is VERY rare in this genre. So I pretty much welcome the uniqueness.

Yeah, seems like that evaluation has to do more with P4G's strength as a game rather than Steam player's behaviour after making negative review.
I personally stop playing completely after making negative review because otherwise I generally don't even make an effort to write one.

More demo impressions:

Metamorphosis: First-person platformer/walking simulator that feels like a cross between the Franz Kafka story and Alice in Wonderland, where you of course play a man transformed into a cockroach. Demo is very short, but the traversal mechanics and sense of scale feel reasonably polished; looking forward to the full game.
Chicory: A Colorful Tale: 2D Zelda with a cute paintbrush-wielding dog. Incredibly charming, although the demo only offers a pretty limited sense of how the paintbrush will impact puzzle design, but hey, it's a demo.
Milky Way Prince: The Vampire Star: Visual novel with 3D environments about an abusive gay relationship, which is somehow tied to a Little Prince-esque fairy tale about the titular Milky Way Prince. Not completely sold on the writing and unfortunately the 2D character art is embarrassingly bad, but there aren't a lot of games that explore this territory outside of Ren'Py or whatever, so I'm at least intrigued.
LOVE - A Puzzle Box Filled with Stories - Narrative puzzle game where you rotate stories of an apartment building in between past and present timelines to fill in the stories of the building's residents. Seems designed primarily for mobile and I wouldn't be surprised to see it debut on Apple Arcade first, but it controls well enough with a mouse and feels pretty polished..
Ray's The Dead: Like The Wild at Heart, another indie take on Pikmin, but this one has you as a zombie commanding other zombies and more of a focus on combat than on exploration and puzzle-solving. Not bad, but I preferred TWaH.
Industria: It's a reasonably polished walking simulator, then it's a janky-feeling first-person shooter? Nice 80s atmosphere, I guess, but I don't think the demo should have been released in this state (seriously, you have no choice but to restart the whole thing if you die)
Do Not Buy This Game: If you're going to shamelessly knock off The Stanley Parable and The Beginner's Guide, you could do worse than this, I guess. Eh.
Paradise Lost: Walking simulator/adventure about exploring a secret Nazi underground civilization in an alternate history. Seems polished and intriguing enough, though the demo doesn't incorporate any of the supernatural elements from the trailers, which would have made this more interesting.
Esothe: Semi-open-world 3D platformer where your objective is to collect orbs that have been scattered about the world. Far too janky to recommend, unfortunately, and it's baffling that you can't climb onto ledges even though it very much feels like you should.
Transient: First-person adventure/walking sim follow-up to Conarium, this time adding Observer-inspired cyberpunk (including a similar investigation system) on top of Lovecraft. Nothing amazing, but nice visuals and I'll play the full game
Sayri: The Beginning: 3D exploration game starring an alien stranded on an unfamiliar planet. decent visuals, but the environments are tedious to navigate given the lack of jumping and that running is tied to stamina, and the "puzzles" aren't particularly compelling. not recommended
