Hey now I know why I hate it.

And thinking about it I see more similarities, like both of them think they know better than me how I want to interact with my PC, or how I do so most efficiently. And both are wrong.

Good thing there's still KDE... and StartIsBack.
Likewise, I fell off the Gnome train at 3. As for Windows 10, Stardock is my go-to for the start menu. I will never abide this abomination that felt it was necessary to spell out the alphabet in front of you, just in case you didn't know it.

Three more new console game threads. Regarding Botw2, I think we can wait till more info (come on, the title isn't even revealed yet).

it's a great song
Jim Steinman who co-wrote it, died only a month or so ago and made me sad. The piano intro comes from Stark Raving Love, on a Jim Steinman album which is great all by itself but the song short-cirtcuits peoples brains when they musically don't get what they think they should. Odd album all round as well, as it pretty much should have Bat out of Hell II and a lot things from it ended up eventually on they very much later Bat albums and other Steinman projects.

Apologies for the derail.

What game is this?

and was it a tank or a rock?
I want to say Arma.

Apparently the "Windows 11" build has a registry setting explicitly for bringing back Win10's start menu. Hopefully that sticks.

Now I just want to know why this is a version upgrade. They wouldn't call it a whole new version of Windows just for a visual overhaul. There's got to be some important under-the-hood changes. Hopefully we'll see on the 24th.

Why is everyone using it now? :p
Because they all wish they were the [UWSL]Saints' Row[/UWSL] Series and had the sheer grace and prowess of song choice matchups that those games had.

[UWSL]Power[/UWSL], [UWSL]I Need A Hero[/UWSL], [UWSL]The Touch[/UWSL], hell they even made Aerosmith's "[UWSL]Don't Want to Miss a Thing[/UWSL]" cool AF for a while!

Don't suppose you previously also used ClassicShell and know if changing to StartisBack is worth spending money I could be spending on sex, drugs and anime?
Way back when (in Windows 8 times, which came with a laptop I bought and was to lazy to reinstall 7 on), I investigated the free and paid options around at the time, and I liked StartIsBack enough to pay the (very reasonable) price. And it has worked perfectly since, through various Windows versions and updates, so I actually bought 2 more licenses since then for other PCs.

That's not to say that alternatives aren't potentially as good or better these days -- I don't know.

Broke: Marvel using I need a hero song

Woke: sherk using the song

What's better than having the villain singing the song. And doing a great cover (I think it sounds better than the original)

The only thing that would have made it better was of it was a karoke thing.

I don't know what to believe anymore. One group of people is saying that WFH during pandemic proved that they can be as efficient as they was in the office, but then we have more delayed games than ever due to pandemic. We also got major breaches for gaming companies that can be attributed to WFH conditions. We also got releases with more bugs due to QA testing issues.

So what is real consensus regarding WFH in gaming industry? Are companies mandating back to office just evil control freaks or things are really not that efficient with WFH?
I would guess it depends on the stage of development for a game.

All the preproduction and other coordination stuff should be easy to do WFH.

But the late stage and crunch parts are very difficult.

Its probably what fucked CDPR last year. They had to crunch on CP2077 during the worst parts of the pandemic in the fall. As a result console versions where left for dead.

And I didn't play the new Watch Dogs but from what I read it also was very buggy at release. So WFH is not a good idea for final stretches of game dev.

Holy shit I completely forgot that EA is gonna have a showcase.
Sadly.

The only game I play is FIFA, and I'll probably skip it this year unless it's on a new engine. Sick of the same bullshit "changes".

Can also see them doing some bullshit where PC gets the last-gen version, they did that for the last FIFA at a new console release for PS4.

I'm only really interested in seeing what A/AA "indie" styled games EA have in store for us. Aside from Mass Effect i don't really play any of their AAA output.

EA is July and that is probably when we get a Sony event too. Or maybe they just do something at Gamescom in August.

WB is doing their DC Fandome again later this year so that is where we should get updates on Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad.

+ there is GameAwards in December so still plenty events left for the rest of the year :p

The only usage of "Holding out for a Hero" that I recognize is from Short Circuit 2:

Finished Squadrons campaign through the GamePass->EA Pass thing (XBox Launcher and EA Desktop... ouch). It was just okay. Unfortunately the nameless/mute protagonist and uninspired characters didn't scratch my Wing Commander itch. Also the multiplayer focus really ruins the fun of progression in single-player since every "upgrade" is balanced to be a tradeoff like "30% more speed, -50% maneuverability" and several missions are designed to be tutorials to the "real thing".

It plays and runs well, looks good and you can see the they were trying with a limited budget, but it just didn't do enough for me that's just looking at the single player.

Yeah, My most commonly launched apps are pinned to the taskbar too.

Otherwise, many of the apps i use are portable so they aren't installed or appear on the Start Menu, i either run them from their folder, a launcher or the command line. Games are mainly run from a launcher of some sort and everything else i usually hit Winkey+S and type the name of the thing i want.
