Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection

Watch as this nostalgic yet completely reimagined storybook world unravels before your very eyes.

Taking cues from both Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts and giving birth to something entirely new, Resurrection is a title worthy of its name.

Don't be fooled—this picturesque storybook world, while gorgeous, is a love-letter to the original titles and maintains the same punishing gameplay that fans have come to expect. So go on and test your mettle, for the gauntlet has been thrown!

Operation: Tango

Operation: Tango is an espionage-themed cooperative adventure challenging you and a friend to complete dangerous missions across the globe in a high-tech near-future world. As an exclusive team of two, you and your partner will become AGENT and HACKER, working in tandem to bring a high-tech global menace to its knees. With only your voice to link you, teamwork is crucial, and communication is key!

Going Medieval

In the world of Going Medieval, dark age society is on its knees. At the end of the 14th century, 95% of the global population has perished due to rampant plague.

Eventually, survivors emerge from society’s ashes, and it’s now up to you to help them settle in a dangerous new land reclaimed by nature. Build your people a home, help shape their lives, and protect them from animals, bandits, and other dangers in a lawless post-calamity age.

Design, build and expand your settlement from a small wooden hut into a colossal stone castle. With simple-to-use 3D terrain tools you can create the perfect stronghold, from winding underground caverns to sprawling multi-story forts.

This harsh new world is rife with external threats, but you can give your colonists the upper hand in battle by building impenetrable defences and traps. Research, craft and equip weapons and gear so that they can fight back against unrelenting waves of attackers.

Your colonists have more than just raids to contend with. They need protection from starvation and the elements, so it’s essential to stock up on supplies and build shelter to keep them fed and warm. Maintain your villagers’ emotional states, as their moods are affected if their needs and wants aren’t met.

Grow the population of your settlement by helping out strangers in dangerous situations, or by taking in like-minded travellers. Your villagers have personal histories and agendas, and you can get to know them by observing their behaviour and relationships with others.

Necromunda: Hired Gun

Navigate an ocean of crime and corruption to balance the bloody ecosystem of Necromunda as a merciless hired gun. The money’s good, the dog’s loyal, and the gun’s reliable – but can you survive the hunt? Necromunda: Hired Gun is an indie fast-paced, violent, and thrilling FPS set in the darkest reaches of Warhammer 40,000’s most infamous hive city.

For the right price, eliminate the most notorious gangers and mutants. Your armory is a sprawling arsenal. Your body is enhanced with a dozen customizable augments to run on walls and leap over chasms. Your cyber-mastiff will sniff out and kill enemies for you, while your grappling hook allows quick, agile traversal of the massive environments.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Nook Inc. invites you to create your personal island paradise on a deserted island brimming with possibility.

Collect bugs, decorate your paradise throughout the day, or enjoy sunset on the beach while fishing in the ocean.

Craft everything from tools to creature comforts as you create and customize your island community.

Show off your island utopia to family and friends—or pack your bags and visit theirs.

The Magnificent Trufflepigs

The Magnificent Trufflepigs is a first-person, romantic, metal-detecting game. You play as Adam, a sharp-witted but compassionate man returning to his childhood village of Stanning. There he'll help a woman named Beth on her mission to unearth a local treasure. As cracks begin to appear in Beth’s fairy tale plan for everything, you’ll delve into her history and discover all may not be as it seems. And you’ll have to choose how Adam responds to Beth as she faces her demons.

Gameplay combines laid-back metal detecting and exploration with a strong interpersonal narrative, all set in a beautiful English countryside. The Magnificent Trufflepigs is a game about trying to find something, and the tone it sets is like a typical English summer: mostly pleasant, but with stormy moments that threaten to ruin everything.

Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown

The towering factory complex of Steeltown manufactures all the tech that keeps Colorado running and the Patriarch in power—trucks, armor, weapons, and robots. But deliveries from Steeltown have stopped cold, and all the Patriarch is getting from Abigail Markham—Steeltown's leader—are excuses. When he sends the Rangers to investigate, they find the place is a powder keg with the fuse already lit. The workers are striking, bandits raid with impunity, and nobody is allowed through the gates, not even on the business of the Patriarch. Without help, Steeltown could crash and burn for good, and take Markham with it—but maybe that's just what it needs. The Rangers will have to decide that for themselves.

Until We Die

Until We Die is a base defense strategy game. Your base is the subway station, it's underground part. You'll have to defend it against all sorts of things, brought in by meteorites.

To win, you have to survive for about 30 game days, fending off all the attacks on the base. At first, it'll be small packs of creatures, and by the end, you'll have to fight a sweeping horde of mutants. Also, the game will end early if our hero, Ivan, dies or if the power generator, the heart of the base, is destroyed.

Until We Die is not a conventional strategy game. Here you have to run around as Ivan and dispense ass-kicking valuable orders to your subjects. There's no advanced AI. Humans are reluctant to take the initiative, and those lazy bastards don't want to do anything on their own.

And there's a lot to do: building fortifications, researching technology to build even stronger fortifications and defend more effectively, sending expeditions to the surface, attacking mutant lairs to secure new land for farms and tents, gathering supplies from crates, and extracting food from mushrooms and anything else that looks edible... wasn't there a fat rat running down the tracks?

Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom

Battle hordes of zombies and monsters in The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom, a semi open world action RPG that tells a new story in the post-apocalyptic town of Wakefield. Playing as teen survivors Jack, Quint, June or Dirk, you’ll explore zombie-infested streets on your quest to stop Malondre, a powerful adversary from obtaining the Staff of Doom. When you are surrounded by enemies, use your heroes’ unique combat skills to defend the tree house. Summon sorcerer Bardle, warrior Skaelka and other allies for help in battle. Craft upgrades to strengthen your abilities, the treehouse, and getaway vehicle Big Mama. Up to 4 players can tackle the story together in couch co-op or take on waves of enemies in Horde Mode. Can you defeat giant bosses from the animated series, including an all-new enemy, Malondre?

Play as the tornado of cool Jack, self-made scientist Quint, the cool and sarcastic June or Dirk, the tough guy who loves tending his garden. Play with up to three family and friends in couch co-op and feel just like you’re the Last Kids on Earth!

Start out as a scrappy survivor but find the right blueprints and resources and you’re ready to craft! Upgrade your equipment, abilities, the treehouse, and your getaway car Big Mama to Legendary levels of power.

You may be the Last Kids on Earth, but you’re not alone in the fight to survive! Summon canine monster Rover, horned ogre Biggun, Skaelka the warrior, and the sword-wielding sorcerer Bardle. You can even upgrade your allies’ attacks, damage radius, speed and more.

Backbone is a post-noir roleplaying detective adventure, in which you step into the shoes of raccoon private investigator, Howard Lotor, and explore dystopian Vancouver, BC, beautifully rendered in high resolution pixel art.

After years of small-time cases, lonely evenings, and just barely scraping by, Howard Lotor is swept into a job quite unlike any other before it. What starts as a menial case slowly unravels into something much darker, pitting Howard against the oppressive, systemic power hierarchies of the City itself.

Valley of No Roads is a city building puzzle, that creates beautiful sceneries while you find your way to expand it further. You place blocks of houses that come in different shapes and sizes, surround fields, towers, gain points for abilities and create bridges to cross lakes and rivers. In Valley of No Roads you can enjoy the view and build the town as you want it or try to make it as dense and optimal for competing at the leaderboards.

You start the game with few blocks made of houses, placing those on the corners of previous houses. Every area has its tasks to be fulfilled, requiring you to place certain amount of blocks, creating new bodies of water or migrating a market square to the area. These tasks vary and by fullfilling those, you unlock new parts of the map. You are rewarded of every block you place and every task you fullfill, so gaining points can be tricky!

Valley of No Roads has a strong focus on the sceneries you build, so you'll have full control over the camera and UI, just to get the most serene videos and screenshots. It also features day/sunset setup, that can be changed to fit your mood. Daylight is nice, but some of us love the humidity setting over the dim landscape.

Roguebook

The ancients speak of a Book written since time immemorial containing all the world's legends. After many fabulous adventures, recounted in Faeria – Chronicles of Gagana, this relic was lost in a well of Faeria. Through contact with this source of magic, the Book developed a wicked free will of its own and became the Roguebook!

You are trapped in the Book of Lore of Faeria, and each page represents a new challenge. Starbase

Starbase is developed with Frozenbyte’s internal game engine that is custom-built for conquering space, enabling the use of extremely challenging combination of voxel and vertex technologies in the game. The modern engine has been built specifically with Starbase in mind and the engine’s architecture is designed to handle all the quirks of simulation, damage, building, player amounts and the ever-growing universe to match the challenges the ambitious vision of the game can pose. Similarly, all features of the game have been developed with the infinite scale and the creative freedom of the players in mind.

Starbase has been in secret development for five years without restraints and the development will continue until the game’s bold vision is achieved. In the ever-expanding space the scale can range from the unit of one bolt to massive space station structures, with exploration missions varying from journeys to nearby asteroid fields, to salvaging ship debris, and eventually to other galaxies.

In Starbase players are given the freedom to build the kind of universe they want to, and a small group of players can eventually form large factions that challenge the powers that be. Being inventive will also help, as cleverness often triumphs over brute force in Starbase, and the only limitation is the creativity of the players.

Starbase Early Access will introduce the players, the pioneers, to a new galaxy that they can begin to explore from a bunch of huge stations, the Mega Stations, located at the orbit of a single planet. As the players eventually settle the entire orbit, they can start finding ways to travel to the planet’s moons and someday all the way to other planets and distant star systems. The still unoccupied universe of Starbase offers players the chance to take part in the building of the galaxy and in discovering what will be the first steps in the twilight of space travel.

Early Access allows the players to explore, buy and modify spaceships, form social connections and to earn money by gathering and selling resources. The players can start building their home stations at the Mega Station and begin the exploration and creation of the Starbase universe together with the developers.

New thread? New thread. Good thread.
It is once again time to try to force myself through Halo's campaigns to get this brainworm out of my head. Only this time I have a 2 TB SSD do I don't need to shuffle other games around to download it.

Yay for new thread! lashman Thank you!

Necromunda & Scarlet Nexus this month for me, but I'm going to wait for reviews on the latter's combat before buying it. I'm confident that it'll be good since it's the guy behind the Tales of Xilia's combat, but with how Biomutant's combat turned out, I'm sort of cautious at the moment.

Speaking of Necro, it's out now!

Ah fuck, I can't run Village in a way that is acceptable, gonna uninstall it.
What problems are you having, mate?

I don't think there is anything super expensive that's really going tempt me this month like Mass Effect:LE... so maybe I can actually play some games instead of fighting with myself about buying them :p

Another great thread. Thanks lashman !

And this month I can't complain about the Retro game... even though realizing that Thief Gold is 23 years old is something....
Man.... the use of sound on it and the sequel was sooooooo ahead of it's time.

... that I would have been perfectly happy not having put into numbers. 👵

Not just of its time. Thief4 for instance was a lot worse in that respect. Among other things. Every other thing.

What I really miss is the map design. Especially for Thief 2 (Metal Age). The near complete freedom of exploration and combat (or avoidance thereof), the secret passages, the replay value... I struggle to think of many games that just give you such a large and rich map and let you do your thing, with so many options at your disposal. The setting, with the handful of colourful factions with their own crafted idioms and dialects was very endearing as well.

Yes... level design in Thief 2 is something really special. A lot of freedom but somehow very little frustration in navigating them. Even the third game has it's moments despite those terrible console limitations. As for the Thief 4..... to be honest a barely remember anything about it, but I do recall what a downgrade the use of sound was. In 2 it was something that you could really use to guide yourself, estimate where the enemies were, and so on.

Watching the reviews MandaloreGaming did on the first 3 games really brought back a lot of memories.

I have said this before but wow, when Quick Resume works, it's just amazing. It doesn't always work though sadly. But it is cool since you can just hop back into Horizon 3 at any time you want and race cars for a bit.

Yes, Thief 3 was a downgrade in many respects (Ion Storm had terrible trouble handling shadows in unreal engine 2, development was difficult and endlessly delayed, iirc) but when all was said and done it was still quite good, imo. And scary at times -- Shalebridge Cradle, brrrr.

If I recall, there are mods that re-assemble the levels into one map. That doesn't completely mask the fact that the level design is a bit more linear than the first 2, because the transitions act as choke points anyway, loading or no, but it's still at acceptable levels of linearity compared to what would follow.

Story-wise, the Keepers in that game annoyed me so much that I rooted squarely for the antagonist; the "Gamall" part of my pseudo comes from Thief3, actually.

As for the Thief 4..... to be honest a barely remember anything about it,
That's probably for the best 😢

Fortunately there is

And
(which I never finished because one mission was way too scary for me)
