Wok hey bud, any chance you could make a list or such of games that entered and left early access in less than 2 years?
I have listed 480 Early Access titles which:
  • have been released,
  • are not listed as free.
Caveat:
  • There are hundreds of images on the Github page. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:
  • There may be a few mistakes, e.g. games which are not Early Access titles but mention Early Access in their store description.
  • Similarly, some games are missing, because in my data snapshot, there is no mention of Early Access in their store description.
  • I have not checked the duration of the Early Access period at all: no data.

Phew, well that's Testament of Sherlock Holmes over and done with. Game was rather lengthy, but I enjoyed it for the most part.
One of its weakest points has to be the music, there must've been only 6 main music tracks in this game lol. Heck at one point you play as the dog Toby as you investigate a wharf at night and the music becomes very suspenseful...when the section of the game is anything but. Also, why the heck does the wharf's Ironworks look like this for?! How do you even get that much molten metal or whatever in one freakin' place?!

There's a damned RIVER of this stuff. You'd think it being in London of all places would make it cool down to a solid or something.

Also the game's graphics are a curious mix of well detailed character models and low quality textures for various locations. There are some nice looking textures for the areas you explore etc., but you can tell where they put the budget in.

I have listed 447 Early Access titles which have been released and are not listed as free.

Caveats:
  • There are 447 images on the Github page. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:
  • There may be a few mistakes, e.g. games which are not Early Access titles but mention Early Access in their store description.
  • The list is likely not exhaustive as my data is partially outdated.
  • I have not checked the duration of the Early Access period at all. I don't believe that I would have the data since store pages are updated after release.
Thanks mate. Reason I bring it up is because it seems that more games are enter and leaving early access compared to earlier years.

Unfortunately, there is no way to check: I don't believe that the start date is saved anywhere.

For instance, the release date of Slay the Spire has been updated after the game was released, and I cannot find when the Early Access started.

In comparison, They Are Billions is still in Early Access, and its "release date" matches the start of the Early Access:

I actually list They Are Billions as if it were released.
And I don't list Slay the Spire because my data snapshot is outdated (there was no mention of "Early Access" in the description back then).
It is a mess.

Don't buy games published by Badland Publishing

In a Twitter thread, Adelman relates his portion of the events that led to Axiom Verge's release later this month. According to him, BadLand Games originally secured the contract to publish the game with a generous offer. BadLand would match what other publishers were offering, and also promised to contribute 75% of their own sales cut to a medical expenses fund for solo developer Thomas Happ's son, Alastair, who suffers from a neurological disorder called kernicterus.

When the time came to produce the discs and cartridges for the various North American platform releases of the game, BadLand "kept stalling," according to Adelman. Ultimately Happ ended up funding the manufacture of the game's North American retail copies, terminating BadLand's distribution rights for the territory and agreeing to compensate the publisher for the work it had already put into the regional release. Axiom Verge ended up effectively self-published in North America, though Adelman says they remained quiet about the issue under the assumption that BadLand was still operating in good faith.

Mt. Whatever

All ages VN, was supposed to release today, but the developer confirms it's held up in review by Valve.

This from the same publisher which released the Adult Only, Butler Torture porn VN (Hadaka Shitsuji) just weeks ago, and which Valve let onto the store without issue.

Valve what is you doin'??? o_O I'm gonna laugh if they ban a game that would get a T rating at worst on consoles...
Update: Valve let it through after all. Phew.

Weird feeling when you have to worry about all ages versions, but it's not like valve hasn't banned them before, and I'm sure they'll nab more for whatever reason.

For comparison to that RPS article about Epic's snooping around probably being harmless because why not. To now having an article where Steam yet again attempts to improve user reviews (which have always been ever changing with new features added but hey we can just pretend they've simply left it alone since inception like the whole of Steam) getting a super negative spin as they're both too late and might screw it up too because why not. The fuck.

So if you're Steam it's damned if you do and damned if you don't, as if there's any entity out there that has fixed user reviews, whatever it means to the given blogger, as if when you go on amazon or pretty much anywhere you don't encounter the same but filter through it, But hey if you're Epic you probably are a saint no matter the evidence and ditching user reviews altogether or guaranteeing your store only offers amazing games (pinky swear) and no trash is fine. So review curation by a team formed to combat bad (bad quality, not bad rating) reviews is probably an awful thing but game curation by Sweeney or whoever is probably good. Of course we'll constantly rag on Steam for not having game curation like Epic but when they try something like review curation, again, they'll probably screw it up! If Steam do start game curation (again, as back in the day, which they changed by our feedback!) we'll be sure to say they're evil over it.

Nevermind nobody having any example where a game's overall score on Steam was so hugely affected by review bombing to even make it seem like the big issue it's been claimed to be seemingly just to allow Epic to get away with not having yet another feature on their store as being the best thing ever. As if they don't check user reviews when they shop for anything else, a TV or even freaking food, but hey it's bad to have it for gaemz because then what's the point of increasingly obsolete game reviewers that the PC community in particular is constantly distancing itself from.

And all this inbetween having articles about promising niche (Wolfpack) or indie (RICO) games which are delivered to a huge potential audience only via and thanks to Steam considering Epic wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole but, Steam is bad for gaming, I wish Wolfpack and its ilk had to get a bigger publisher or a money bag by the Sweenies out there if they wanted to have a chance of reaching my precious PC, Someone please choose games for me!

The gaming press at large didn't say one peep about Snapshot Games basically trafficking their users to Epic, so we should pretty much expect bad, disingenuous reporting at this point.

It's their modus operandi, and everyone with something working between their ears know it.

NPR covers movies, music, and pop culture, need them to start covering games so there's an example of actual journalism somewhere for all this nonsense.
BBC does culture reviews, and regularly does Radio features on video game music. Maybe someday enough of the "younger" generation will get employed there and push for a video game section to their pop culture coverage.

I hate this part of Ys Origin, and I completely forgot about it. Powering up this damn ring by taking down these stupid difficult enemies ain't fun.

Managed to get NVidia Inspector set SSGSS anti aliasing on Space Marine and it looks clean.

I just wish these PS360 era games didn't have such washed out colours. I can't find a proper Reshade that just makes the colours more vibrant or stand out.

This month I installed F1 2018 (35 GBs), AC Origins (42? GBs), Tokyo Xanadu eX+ (4GB), GTA SA (4 GB) and some CSGO / PUBG / other games updates that shouldn't be more than 10GB in total, and I already used 75% of my monthly bandwidth. Seriously, fiber is a godsent thing, limited data isn't.

Fortunately my ISP is offering an unlimited data plan if we opt-in for digital billing instead of receiving a paper bill as usual, although not for everyone yet. I hope I'm next on their list.

About 20 years ago, when I had dial-up internet, I had such a reduced cap, I once spent a whole night until morning downloading an album The Smashing Pumpkins leaked to their fans (Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music), and at the end of the month I received a bill that was around 250€.

oh this looks interesting ... launched few days ago by solo dev

Run your fantasy RPG tavern - let travellers take shelter for the night and serve 'em the best mead of their life with a good dose of humor.

By word, by book, the tales of the brave and mighty are told in reverie. Every warrior is remembered, his stories spreading like a magician’s flame. But, what happens after the story? Where does the hero go after slaying the dragon, rescuing the damsel and freeing the people from an untold terror? No one really knows what happens to the old and retired soldiers. They listen of course, to the very far fetched stories that are passed down from mouth to mouth. Where? In the very taverns that are bustling with legends and the young at heart.

After years of roaming free, slaying evil and merrymaking in halls of drink, everyone takes an arrow to the knee. They have obligations and duties but most of all, the retired life is boring and redundant. They miss the dangers and wish they were young again. What better way to relive the life than to run a tavern? Travellers and adventurers from all kingdoms, far and wide come aspiring for fame and glory. They tell tales of their adventures, transforming cotton tails to horrendous beasts, morphing storms to witchery! All the danger relived in safety because at the end of the day, the warmth still burns in the fireplace.

Your job is to run the tavern - Dragon's Hangover. Some will seek drinks and food while some might seek the warmth of a bed. Manage your tavern and be the host that all adventurers admire. Your journey, as the tavern's keep, begins now.

ATOM RPG is getting a big update next week:

New locations, new quests, new characters and dialogues, and apparently even an improved English translation.

Despite the ridiculous title, the game is well worth a look for fans of the classic Fallout games.

damn nice ... especially about the translation
Also, a special bullet point, aimed at our English-speaking audience: talented writer Scott Hamm of “Age of Decadence” and “Battle Brothers” fame is now helping us improve the English translation of the game. Thank you very much, Scott.

Brazilian developer Studica Solution has announced Gravity Heroes, a new 2D futuristic arena game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will launch this fall.

It’s a fast-paced 2D futuristic arena game, where heroes called Gravity Heroes fight, controlling gravity, for peace between men and machines.

To bring the feeling of nostalgia, the game follows a pixel art style. Its futuristic appearance as seen in the 90s, should also be apparent in the art of the scenarios, characters, items and interface, i.e., items will have more mechanical parts, screws, electrical wiring and LED lights.

Key Features
  • The ground is not enough for our heroes, change gravity and play on the walls or even the ceiling!
  • There are 25 different enemies organized in waves ready to defeat you.
  • Don’t worry we will boost your abilities with plenty of items, weapons and power-ups.
  • If this is not enough you can invite your friends and play up to four players to defeat the mightiest of the bosses!
  • Or play against them in the versus mode, and prove who is the true master of gravity!
  • Enjoy our nostalgic styles of art and soundtracks.

Project Downfall, a retro-style, cyberpunk, reflex-based first-person shooter with adventure elements, is available now for PC via Steam Early Access for $15.99 / €12.39, publisher and developer MGP Studios announced. The final version will also be released for Xbox One and Switch.

Welcome to a vision of the world on the edge of decay—a world in which the biggest political and economic clash since the Cuban Missile Crisis is now emerging. The European Union is in disarray. France and Germany are each embroiled in their own brutal civil wars. Poland and Hungary, on the other hand, have joined the Novorussian Federation. This new political power has, naturally, triggered the creation of its exact opposite – the Pact of the Transatlantic States, brought to life under the supervision of the United States to stop the crisis and become an alternative for an already weakened European Union.

To save declining government budgets, those in charge have started to look for ways of squeezing more from citizens already exhausted to the limit, and they have finally come up with a seemingly perfect solution: meds. Everyone capable of working is forced to routinely take medication prescribed by doctors in accordance with the newly adopted law. The meds program is aimed at creating a more efficient workforce.

Nothing comes without a price though: all chems have their side effects and sometimes just a tiny dose is enough to push you down the path of no return – one that will prove to you that an overdose of reality can have dire consequences.

Project Downfall is a retro-style, cyberpunk, reflex-based shooter with adventure elements, where the key to successful gunplay is to use cover and your pills at the right time in any given situation.

Self-medicated and low on ammo with no time to reload – and facing an enemy reloading right in front of you? Dash up to him and smack him with a self-medicated kick to send him flying. Dodge incoming bullets for a score multiplier. And rip enemies to shreds with your huge arsenal of weapons, including several different shotguns, a minigun, a berretta, a katana, and even a lead pipe.

Key Features

  • A fast-paced shooter that will test both your reflexes and quick thinking.
  • A non-linear story with multiple endings set in a cyberpunk, dystopian future that will be added during the Early Access development.
  • Unique, trippy, retro-style visuals.
  • An original soundtrack dynamically adapting to what’s happening on-screen.
  • A combo system based on self-prescribed pills, which opens a new dimension for you – a special Focus Mode, slowing down the action—crucial to your victory in combat.
  • A large weapons arsenal including several different shotguns, a minigun, a berretta, a katana, and even a lead pipe.
  • Lots of fun ways of dispatching your foes, or “cannon fodder” if you will.
  • The Superkick! Give your opponents a quick and completely free flying lesson!
