Completely unrelated to PC, but can Google quit making weird updates to mobile Chrome and Android. There is so many weird, supposedly QoL updates that interfere with basic tasks.

Just a opening a link has now become a weird tab within a tab. Like who asked for this? Now when I try to open a text, it wants to open a picture in picture window ontop of what I am viewing rather than taking me to directly to text messages. Or how use to be able to easily copy 2FA codes from the notification, now it fumbles here and there, sometimes directly taking me to text messages.

:notlikethisblob: Ay dios mio...

Android browsers are a pain huh.
I was using Chrome way back, but then switched to Firefox (I can't actually remember the reason though), and then Firefox fucked up monumentally a while ago and had an update that made it basically unusable, so currently I'm actually using Edge.
Expecting that to have a fuck up down the line as well eventually, and then to the next browser we go...

This must be a joke at this point
A bunch of devs are coming forward saying this isn't the case. I wonder what's up.

It's actually full of shit. The media has a strong bias against this game, for some reason. This isn't the first time stuff has been made up either. There was an entire article based on fake employee cards and the editorial quality of this one doesn't exactly tickle a Pulitzer either.

I'm getting pissed at it therefore will provide quotes of those who came forward because everyone and their mother just seems to be frothing at the mouth, waiting eagerly to get in their witty "scam" comment. I'm especially tired of it considering that this is one of the few studios pushing tech, innovation and remaining seemingly laid-back in the process and taking their time without overworking their employees.
Tyler Witkin @CaptainZyloh
This is weird to me. No one on my team had to use PTO at all, and I felt that CIG was extremely flexible/understanding. In fact, I just asked a load of people on the team about this and it confused everyone. Unfortunately, I think this is an outright lie. :( (1/2)

Everyone I'm checking with was "told to clock in as if they had worked, and to focus on personal safety first, not work." If legitimate, maybe a localized issue within a single team, which should and was likely already handled. Damn, got to get those clicks though, right?Man facepalming(2/2)
Kraiklyn @Kraiklyn1
This is also somewhat bewildering to me. I have been with Cloud Imperium Games for 6 years now, and this company has been nothing but supportive and understanding. They have helped me through some tough times in ways no other company has. I don't think I would be with CIG as 1/2

long as I have if any of this were ringing true. I had our studio manager even personally reach out to me to check up on me to see if everything was okay. I had my direct managers offering anything I needed and never had to use PTO for the storm. All for clicks though, I am sure.
David Colson@dave_colson
This is a confusing article that annoys me because from everyone I know and work with in Austin it is not the experience that people have had. CIG has been extremely supporting and helpful throughout this and this article is just clickbait Pensive facePouting face
Wakapedia@Wakapedia
This was my experience as well along with studio managers asking if I needed food, water, or emergency help after my apartment flooded and I lost quite a lot of time, personal items, and living space dealing with it along with the power outages and lack of water for days.
@CinderfallTV
CIG has always been really good to me. I've not experienced what is being said in this article. They've always been there for me in dire times, especially during my double mastectomy.

While I'm not aware of everyone's particular situation, I wanted to talk about my own. (1/?)

I've been with CIG for four years. We've gone through a lot together! They helped me through the deaths of my Mother & Grandmother in the same day, They were there for me through my health diagnoses and my surgeries, offering constantly kind words and support (2/?) Fall Hot beverage Black Lives Matter

And even sending me get well baskets with food and essentials. Again, I don't know what others' experiences may be like. I'm not discounting anyone. I just wanted to say my piece. I love my company, and this article was not the case for me.
Gill-CIGCIG Employee Reddit and @Gillyburd1
I can only speak for myself here, but as someone who's worked for multiple studios throughout my time in the Games Industry, CIG absolutely treat it's employees the best. By a county mile.

I adore working where I do, and that's not something I can say I've felt for my former Games Industry Employers. :(
This is becoming a legitimate frustrating experience for a some of us at CIG, at least around me. We just want to make a great game.

This kind of reporting can seriously make you wonder why you bother getting up in the morning, worse than any delay or upset backer could.
Jake Bradley Community Specialist @ CIG Austin
Adding my experience here. The studio managers reached out to me several times to check in even though I had told them I still had power, and even though I don't live in Austin yet! I've had jobs that forced me to work in conditions like this, CIG is absolutely not one of them.
John Crewe@_johncrewe
Kotaku doing their usual poor job of "reporting" again, to suggest other studios and management wasnt aware of the situation is ludicrous. The situation was discussed daily in meetings I was involved in and there was no expectation of people being available to work in ATX.
Jeremiah Lee @jlee_art
We have been constantly reminded to check in on our employee’s physical, mental, AND emotional safety during the texas snow storm. We take our employee’s safety VERY SERIOUSLY. Clickbaiting on a tragedy that has caused people to lose lives and devastate families is disgusting.
Nightrider @Pursuit_Special
have been at CIG for several years now and can't say enough about the care and thoughtfulness that Cloud Imperium Games has provided in outreach and ensuring we are supported in and outside of work.

CIG is a great company to work for, and I have always been treated well
For reference, CIG employs about 640-700 people, but sure. Burn the witch.

Well this will be interesting. I mean Kotaku isn't usually the best and brightest to start with. But I did think, even when Schreier was there, that they wanted to stand out by having a huge pro-union bent, and I wonder if that sort of lowers the bar for what they consider news and fact, so long as it whistles their tune.

I'm always curious with this sort of situation, Does someone like Schreier or similar talk to around 10 employees or hundreds in a studio that can have 1000 people , or when something like this is said do you base it on 2 or 3 people who can collaborate the story as back up and that's good enough. Then in that sense if someone like Kotaku spoke to 2 or 3 people who love the studio would they do a positive article?

I just know from the many places I have worked, there will always be people upset, or not like a decision of a company. Obviously not wanting to take anything away if most of the studio is genuinely unhappy.

There's a degree of quality. Shreier has actual sources, albeit disgruntled, but doesn't know much about gamedev, thus lacks the knowledge to provide context and make sense of the employees' complaints. It's still more or less rooted in fact. I also like to believe that, as you imply, he talks to enough people to see a pattern, but these days I'm not so sure anymore. Again, you're quite right that sifting through the normal noise is part and parcel of the journalism involved in the job, but... Well, with the EGS you've seen how much of that is actually going around in the games industry.

Then there's Kotaku/Escapist grade of stuff which is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure they quoted Smart as a source at some point and demonstrably made stuff up :/.

I've been using Brave on android for quite a while, initially because of its built-in ad blocker. It seems alright, also based on chromium. I should take a look at Bromite as well.

Downunder.
Refresh my memory: What's the suggested Lodoss series to watch? The original OVAs are enough?
The primer is the 1990 OVA, yes.

I haven't seen the 1998 TV series myself, but I've heard it's inferior compared to the OVA.

EDIT: Check this one out too.

Far as I understand, each animated adaptation is best treated as its own separate thing, which I am OK with. Pirotess appears in the OVA correct?

Last weekend I completed Yakuza 2 and I have now moved on to Y3.

Man it's brutal. It's not even like a step back in terms of graphical fidelity... it's like multiple bus stops back. The worst thing is how stiff the "animation" looks.
Thankfully the storytelling and the "acting" are still excellent.

One last thing about Y3's graphics... Kiryu's true self is being a bald man... as revealed by his shadow (why??? just fake the hair shadow! At the very least for the main character... is this a glitch from the remastered collection?).

I've been using Firefox on Android for a decade or so now. The simple reason is that I just can't deal with the internet without complete ad-blocking.

The update took a bit of getting used to, but it's actually not so bad in terms of usability now IMHO. Stuff like having the navbar at the bottom initially seemed very silly but ultimately works better with the way I hold my phone.

Yeah, I can imagine. When I eventually get to Yakuza 2 (still playing Yakuza 0) and finish it. I'll take a break before starting 3 to try and separate the titles and gameplay.
