I really dislike games that do the whole multiple protagonists stuff and yakuza 5 after yakuza 4 is really trying my patience
I can see that, except I really enjoyed each protagonists part, was like getting 5 different, smaller Yakuza games in one. But Y5 is crazy big

Alan Wake 2 FUCK YES
Yea ill buy it there just like how i bought Stranger of Paradise on there

Finally! Definitely going to get this day one.
Another game I always wanted to play but never got around to.
Currently playing Dragon Dogma on the Deck and playing as a mystic knight is great fun so far. Would really recommend it, still holds up well.

Why is it petty? Is it petty when we PC bros "ooh and ahh" over the games coming to our platform? The MS twitter guy is just doing his job lol...

Don't think it's petty at all. If anything it always struck me as more "petty" that any of the big 3 would have to rely on 3rd parties to sell a showcase?
It's only petty to people who tie a company into their personality and identity and take offense when they deem said company to be slighted.

Volume 3 copium :(
Volume 3 is the new chapter 3 lol.

I'm definitely curious to know what would be in future volumes. There's so many directions they could go. I would imagine Volume 2 would be the rest of the main saga, so Big Boss games like Portable Ops, Peace Walker and the MGSV games. Hopefully at some point we get the Acid games. I only played the first one but it was fun.

Lack of proper respect for Talos Principle 2 on this forum should be punishable by law :p
Talos Principle 2 would've been my most hype announcement if it hadn't been for Metal Gear. :p

The thing is, we already knew Talos Principle 2 was in development, it was just a nice surprise to see more of it.

It's certainly the game I'm looking forward to the most of everything that was featured.
We knew about Alan Wake 2 too :p

Also I should go and annoy guy who worked at CroTeam and now it is at Devolver (that I know for years from regional forum) to visit CroTeam and play Talos 2 before anyone else XD

The return of Metal Gear and the GOAT Snake Eater is going to overshadow everything else unfortunately. I've been port begging for these games across 3 different forums for nearly a decade now lol.

I'm still so hyped from the collection news I haven't even thought about Bloodborne and Demon Souls PC ports not getting announced. wtf

But....did I mention how good Snake Eater is? It really is the best game of all time.

Its still crazy to me Sony dropped nearly 4 billion on Bungie and they are putting Marathon on Xbox lol.

Seems like such a waste of money to buy what is basically a Destiny 2 in its final life and Marathon which seems like some extraction pvp game. meh. Bungie works at such a snail pace I don't even see Destiny 3 happening for another 4 or 5 years. And that will most certainly be multiplat + very barebones at release. All of this Bungie stuff would have released on PS regardless even if they didn't acquire them.

Meanwhile Xbox dropped nearly 8 billion on Bethesda and they aren't putting Starfield on PS5 lol. They got a ton of ip, dev teams and tech which Playstation won't see again. And Sony had to moneyhat and give money to Bethesda(Xbox) to get Deathloop/Ghostwire for a year.

Seems like Sony is initially losing with all these weird GaaS decisions and they think they will bank a lot in the long run. I don't know. It feels like Jim Ryan is in way over his head. And Project Q looks really dumb too btw.

I still have trouble digesting the showcase.
As I said I kinda want a PS5, mostly because nostalgia for begone times, and hey, if I can begrudgingly wait for an exclusivity windows to pass, the possibility of having another helping with EGS is not my kind of thing. And there is the 2-3 years stance from Sony.
But I know it's a waste. The industry has moved on from exclusivity, I have a better system, games are daylight robbery, etc...

But still, even with my admitted and unwarranted interest, this is all they have to show ? I'm a mark, not a charity.
Even if I was interested in multiplayer, they are so pathetically early on their shit we only got CGI trailers. And a Spider-Man 2 trailer that made the boring QTE fest of the first one years ago look more interesting.
There was nothing. Nothing (first party-wise).

as a PC gamer who generally prefers indie games to AAA titles, I was pretty happy with that Sony showcase. from the standpoint of AAA PS5 console exclusives, yeah, I guess it was pretty lacking, but not my problem!
Sure, but on the other hand this is a Sony show, I kinda want Sony shit. We are entering showcase season and I'm sure there will be ton of places to see new indies. Like PC Gamer or Old Bitch Keighley, or Guerilla Collective or... I just looked at the calendar on Gematsu and it's full of showcases.
There is one showcase for Sony first party and it was crickets

edit
Damn, this is all coming back. The absolute mediocrity of the MGS remake trailer, ant/frog/parrot/snake. Mind fucking blowing. But this one is not on Sony.

I literally use my PS5 for the odd coop game that doesn't have crossplay (Like WWE games)

And then maybe an exclusive they moneyhatted every few years

There was some good stuff at the show, but the GAAS focus left a bad taste in my mouth. Good luck wrestling eyeballs from the Fortnite, Apex and CS audience. Most of the live service titles announced yesterday will probably EoS within 24 months. Marathon will likely make it since it's from Bungie, but I have no faith in any of the others.

oof

.......

Performance report in German, not good...at all

Seeing the argument that we shouldn't be so hard on the devs.
Sure, don't harass them on their own Twitter. BUT
Handwaving away this monstrosity because "the devs poured their heart into it" is the wrong way to encourage better results.
If you were a dev on that game and didn't quit out of protest because of the quality or lack of leadership/budget/vision you were either just doing your job for the paycheck (and I can live with that) or were way over your head.

This is a disaster for the already weak German games industry. This project should have been buried. It surely doesn't look good for the future of Daedelic and the devs working on that ... game.

:shrugblob: Previously privileged person cries about losing access to the cool club. Welcome to the plebs.
Journalism surely hasn't made a case for being the indispensable link between Pubs/Devs the last 2-3 decades. I surely don't care about:
  • a middleman that just spouts the same hyperbolic bullshit that the pubs/devs shout in their own shows
  • rarely did they do an Interview without editing the interview questions a dozen times between the two groups until it was an appropriate Interview
  • we didn't forget the smug and elitist tone that "E3 Reporters" had
  • you are still giving out 9s and 10s to broken games from big publishers while moaning that they won't do an interview with you in a 5 star hotel
  • You can still do your E3 interviews, there are still enough devs doing an E3 / Paris Game Show / Gamescom / Tokyo Game Show, oh, those are the little devs, right.

When was the last time a big outlet asked the hard questions to big Publishers?

Me, I get my news from little YouTubers and Twitch streamers.

unpopular opinion. Just ditch review copies too.
Every game should have a demo.
I cannot stand journalists bragging on youtube they are playing some games before the other players.

Those same YouTubers and Twitch streamers don't get access either to ask questions. Remember AngryJoe grilling Major Nelson at E3 about Xbox One Always Online requirement for example?

He DID ask the hard questions, though.
And this isn't about getting answers to these questions, and I don't expect the little influencers to even ask questions. 99% we would get a bullshit answer.
I am getting first reactions and gameplay from these little influencers.

The Games media has dropped the ball hard in reigning in the games industry. They DIDN'T ask the hard questions, DIDN'T give the hard scores, DIDN'T shy away from "5 Star Hotel Media Events"
In the end, they became the extended mouthpieces of big Publishers, and those Publishers see no reason to wine and dine them anymore, because they could do the "job" of hyping their own games better.

I wouldn't describe a games journalist as "privileged". The pay sucks, so do the hours, and it's a pretty thankless job with randos on the internet making up all sorts of nonsense about them.

But it's pretty clear that the industry saw them as useful idiots who would give a positive preview if they got the right swag, stayed at a fancy enough hotel and were plied with enough food and booze.

And now they're seen as useless idiots and discarded as such.

Games media totally self-owned and alienated themselves from their audience so they could suck the corporate teet. The ones who added actual value are all on Patreon now, while the ones who didn't either joined the industry in PR or business development, or now edit AI generated articles about clickbait topics.

I think there is a space for quality games journalism, but it's gonna be hard work, very grassroots for a long-ass time and the industry will try their damned hardest to ignore then destroy you.

Point is that they had opportunity to ask those questions and even if 99% of them didn't grill them hard that 1% did. With this new format nobody has opportunity to ask any questions. Publishers just drop the video and that's it for the most part.

And the 1% got either silence or bullshit answers. This isn't about "getting answers" (anymore) it's about results. So you wait until release or Beta/Early access to either look for yourself or let your trusted influencer look.

Game journalists had thrown away their power-check for getting invitations to the boys club. If the check of power would work, they could ask the hard questions and if they get bullshit or noncommital answers, they would caution their audience about the game and to reign in their expectations.

I think this is by and large true. Even when there were an abundance of shitty client journalists in the games media, there was always someone asking the right questions.

But instead of lamenting what is lost (the industry, after all, only tolerated the tough questions because in-person events and interviews with journalists was the most effective way to get word out about their games) the good game journalists need to build something else.

Many tried, but a lot of publications are owned by venture capital vultures which makes it very difficult to do anything that doesn't contribute to infinite growth.

I think we're due a backlash against clickbait and SEO shit. That kind of ad-fueled turbo-capitalist nonsense has pretty much ruined the Internet and a lot of people want quality content and the ability to search for it.

Just gotta find a way to make the money work in both content and more human search engines. Ironically, I think AI has a role to play there (especially in search), but wholesale replacing writers with clickbait bots that know how to play Google's algorithm is probably not the way.

I mean, for what it's worth, we do get interview requests semi-recently, about specific topics, and I'm usually happy to accept those. So I'm not really sure how the lack of a specific in-person event diminishes opportunities for interviews.

Of course, if larger developers don't want to do those interviews for whatever reason, then they won't happen, but that issue seems orthogonal to the lack of in-person events, at least to me.

Is Jeff's merit here only down to whether he changed anything? The point is, there should be more people like Jeff, not less.
I don't know him that much, never watched him or Giant bomb, only know about his firing(s) Did he continue to score broken or bad games low?

And I am with Durante on the Interview argument. What does it matter if journalists can't get in touch with big publishers in E3?
That isn't the only time that Game developers answer questions.
Why cant they get in touch with Sony after last days promo and ask for answers?
Why can't they invite devs to their podcast? (even Phil Spencer goes to mid-level podcasts like Dropped Frames for example
Why can't they just publish a list of questions that the Publisher/dev is unwilling to answer?

Currently playing Dragon Dogma on the Deck and playing as a mystic knight is great fun so far. Would really recommend it, still holds up well.
I also installed Dragons Dogma today (my WoW Hardcore character finally died at level 31) and resumed my 5 year old save (played 8 hours back then). Game's looks are a bit off at 4k and I think the HDR is broken, the gameplay is fun though (Assassin).

But I really miss a From Soft style dodge move, pressing A all the time and getting slapped out of the air gets old fast.

Somehow I got a level 54 thrall after finishing the mission below the first major city (I am level 16), did I mess up because I used my old save or is this normal?

100% agreed. Which makes the shutdown of Waypoint all the more maddening. Their articles went way beyond simple add campaigns for new releases.

So according to Jez Corden, MGS4 is never going to be part of the collection. Vol 2 is peace walker, portable ops, and Metal gear rising. This ruined my night, to be honest. Hopefully, he's just wrong.
I mean, if collection 2 is PSP titles at least put Ac!d in there instead of rising!

On the topic of gaming journalism, youtubers and Twitch streamers: the individual's ethics and journalistic integrity are way more important than the medium they use to do their job. A games journalist that gives a favorable review to a bad game because the publisher paid for a trip, gave them swag or published an ad on their site is just as bad as a youtuber or streamer that will give a favorable review for the same reasons. So for me it makes no sense to condemn or praise games journalism or youtubers or streamers as a whole.

Idk the PR saying they plan for the Master Collection to be the most complete MGS collection ever and then not include 4? Legacy Collection had 4 so wouldn’t be very complete for Master to ignore it.
This is what I say as well, if it's meant to be the ultimate collection, it should have the main entries, especially when mgs4 is the ending of the mgs timeline. Excuse me while I keep inhaling copium :weary-face:
