Anyone know anything about monitors? I am upgrading from 970 to 2070S so I want to up my game to 1440P/144hz. I bought this yesterday (hasnt shipped yet), is it a good deal? Should I avoid? Is there a better option? Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz (this is about $420 USD)
Im pretty sure i have this same monitor, I got mine for around $520 USD last year (during Black Friday). For $420USD I would recommend it.

The only "issues" that I have had is the backlight bleed like a lot of IPS monitors have but it's not really too bad since I don't play games in the dark too often and even when I do some of those games are "colorful" so I don't notice the light where it should be black.

I do have this issue with mine where I guess if you let it go to sleep mode while your PC is on that the screen sort of messes up and you have a big line in the middle of your monitor (it basically shifts your display by 2 pixels) but it can be solved by hitting the off switch that is on the monitor (in addition to an on/off button, like all monitors have, this one also has an on/off switch. Maybe all monitors actually do that and I just never noticed)

The color calibration is the one thing I could never get to really work. So I was not sure how to make colors vibrant and accurate and stuff like that. I tried to just do the srgb mode. Because it's not an OLED blacks are not really blacks but rather a very dark grey.

Not all games will work with G-Sync. Dark souls prepare to die edition still has tearing.

I know its weird. I was advised that Freesync monitors work with Gysnc now though so I am not sure if there is any difference if I have a 2070S?
From my understanding sort of. Nvidia has said that FreeSync will work with Nvidia GPU and that they have tested (and still do test) monitors that meet their standard and if they do they become Nvidia certified FreeSync monitors (or something like that). So in theory I guess all FreeSync monitors will work with Nvidia GPUs but the results might vary since there does seem to be a limitation.

I think GSync monitors have 1 set standard while FreeSync monitors can vary. It's within a certain fps that you will see the benefits of GSync and FreeSync. FreeSync covers a much lower range overall and even that can very from monitor to monitor. I think that was one of the reason for why it cost more, and don't they also need a chip from Nvidia?

Im getting the 3080ti whenever it releases next year or 2021 and I have no idea what's the difference between them (freesync and gsync) would be for that gpu or any gpu for that matter.

Also, the amount of gsync supported monitors is a lot smaller than freesync monitors.

I find a ton of freesync monitors, but not many gsync monitors.
Some of that might have to do with just how more expensive GSync monitors are. I think they are normally $100-$200 USD more than a FreeSync monitor with similar features.

Also isn't FreeSync a free tech that companies can use, while they have to pay Nvidia a license fee or something for GSync? Sort of like HDMI VS Display port? With HDMI I think you have to pay a licencing fee to have that but you don't with Display port?

Is Firefox a less performance hog than Chrome? Ive been using Chrome for years due to it's integration with gmail, drive and keep, but I keep hearing that Firefox is less performance hoggy.

I have also heard about Opera GX and Vivaldi, but not sure about them.

So for Black Friday as far as games go u have my eyes set on Dragon Quest Builders 2 (I am starting to lose hope on a PC release), Days Gone, God of War, and Kingdom Hearts 3 (I guess we will never get a PC release of Kingdom Hearts other than the browser game?)

Oh and the 2TB NVME.

Since i've played it for 25 Hours now (and am in episode 6 out of 14), i wanna share some impressions on Destra

It's pretty much what it's wearing on its sleeves. Eurotruck-SimulatorEurohiker-immersive-sim with occasional horror elements.

And despite my open-world fatigue i like it a lot.
It's very different to other open world games, there are no activities or collectibles, which makes some people say that the game is empty and that there is nothing to 'explore'.

And i think that's almost misunderstanding the concept of the open-world in this case.
This isn't an open-world you are meant to explore, it's an open-world you are meant to defeat.
While the game does have some rare moments of combat, the actual fight is that against the mountain up ahead, or the strongly-streaming river.

You know that feeling in an open-world game where you're trying to slide down a mountainside you aren't supposed to climb down on?
This is an entire game build around that feeling.

It's an amazing feeling once you have defeated a mountain, can look down upon the area you have traversed and most of all - build devices, together with the rest of the community, to make traversing it easier.

Building roads, bridges and zip-lines and suddenly the way that took you 30 minutes to beat becomes matter of a few seconds!

That said, it's understandably a very divisive concept (tho i think it's one that will be less divisise on PC where games like Eurotruck-Simulator, immersive sims and survival games are at home), and it does have a few flaws.

You know how Metal Gear Solid games always came quick to the point? No? Well, this is about 20 times that.
The game truly moves at the pacing of tectonic shifts and the story thus far, while having interesting concepts, is very much up its own ass.

505 Games has increased the Norwegian price of Death Stranding from 599 (65,7$) to 649 (71$).

What the fuck are you guys doing. You really don't want me to buy it, do you? By the time DS is on PC, it will probably be 10$ for my PS4 somewhere and 80$ on Steam.

Nice, that sounds a lot more interesting than I expected it to be. I'll probably buy it on sale, since the regional pricing for it sucks.

What did Israel ever do to 505 Games? I don't want to hop to any conclusions, but it makes you think.

I want 505 to have a smug Ted Talk on regional pricing. Explain why Colombia, South Africa, Turkey, and Uruguay have to pay so much for the honor to play their games? Colombians are expected to pay a 10th of their monthly salary on a single video game?

who knows ... but they've been doing this shit for a while now

here's Indivisible and Bloodstained ... and those are the FIXED prices after people were asking them to do proper regional pricing for weeks (if not months):

still nowhere near what it should be for most of the countries

Whenever I'd see Usurper on the store page I'd go "Oh shit they put Lament of Innocence on Steam???" only to be disappointed afterwards.

Sounds super interesting regardless, will nab the trilogy when i can.
It will be a quatrology soon!

(Got delayed by a month).

I read that there will be a 5th game that finishes the first part of the entire series (which makes complete sense looking at the protagonists of the current games).

I remember people saying that about Shadow of the Colossus but I really liked the fact that you were just traversing the world rather than routing around in it.

I know it's already been said so many times, bit my god Disco Elysium is just incredible and so special 😍
Agreed! They've got me interested to see where they go from here with whatever their next game ends up being and I can only hope Disco Elysium continues to sell well. It's certainly a game that shouldn't be missed! :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

i just hope the "community" thing wont make it impossible to play "lone ranger" style, just building shit for yourself

Death Stranding is 69.90 CHF here, Thanks 505 :disapproval-blob:

While i was checking prices, i was surprised to see that EA changed the SW Jedi: Fallen Order price a few days ago from 69.90 to 59.90, so similiar to US prices, which is "good" for us here.

EA being nicer than 505, what a crazy world :thinking-face:
Wait, so they actually have adjusted Fallen Order regional pricing then? This is the final price? Shame.

Downunder.
Given that those were just posted today, I can only presume that you do a good job staying up to date with the latest releases brethren
Well, someone linked hews' rough sketch of one of these a few weeks ago on Discord and I've been following them ever since. :dana_blanket:
