Resident Evil 2 and The Evil Within 2 are those I'd recommend for personal taste.

Among those smaller games you listed there are several great ones.

Hellblade is pretty cool if you want a linear cinematic experience (with a deeper meaning)

Catherine, Killer 7, The Missing and Katamari are pure Japanese weirdness but also great games. I would personally recommend The Missing over the others but they're all great.

Gris is a very linear 2D game but it's just amazing to look at. Definitely one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

I think you cannot go wrong with any of the above.

I know Subnautica is supposedly very good as well but I never played it myself.

Ok Meta!
Thinking of buying one big game this time, help me decide!
If I could only play one game from that list, I'd choose Devil May Cry 5. If you haven't played the rest of the series I probably wouldn't recommend jumping in there though. My runner up would be Resident Evil 2, and I really don't think you need any other series knowledge to jump into that one. They are both fantastic games and both will be placing high on my GOTY list.

If you aren't into fighters, take Tekken off the list. Other than the maybe one hour long story mode, there is nothing in there for casuals. Heck, not even a tutorial or any help for learning the game.

Of your list, I'd go with one of the Resident Evils. If you like that series, those are two of the best IMO. RE7 scared the shit out of me when playing it and RE2 definitely raised my heart rate a few times, though it's obviously more actiony.
Tekken is off. Support for RE is strong, its seems...

As I've mentioned, I have a lot of nostalgia for DMC, so DMC is in my list. But the price is... high for me.
RE2 because I couldn't play through RE1HD, and needed something more action-y.

My haul: Ion Fury | DUSK | AMID EVIL | Injustice™ 2 | Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion | Remnant: From the Ashes | The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut | The Bard's Tale Trilogy | SUNLESS SKIES | Neonwall | Semblance | Evergarden

I copied it straight from my activity feed, lol.

Don't think the haul will change.

The least Ive ever bought on sale, but that's because Ive become way cautious about buying games. Before I even used to buy tons of games at 20 and 15% off, this time it was only Ion Fury and Dusk/Amid evil bundle. I also won't buy a game if it's a sequel or another game in a series and I haven't played the first game(s) yet, like Dirt Rally 2, won't buy it as I haven't played the first one. Or Age of Wonders: Planetfall (haven't played the 3rd game much at all and it's apparently really good).

Also, gotta save money for Boneworks (which I assume will take a lot of my time, games looks entertaining as fuck) and a new GPU next year (aiming for a 3080ti).

Why is that, if you don't mind me asking? I have been interested in DMC 5 too, but I really disliked DMC 4 and couldn't make myself replay the first one earlier this year (through the HD collection). The only DMC game I ever finished was DmC, which I really enjoyed.

The one I'll be definitely getting when it's out is her Travelling Outfit Figure, FGO is pumping out amazing figures, luckily I''m only interested in these two.

Ok Meta!
Thinking of buying one big game this time, help me decide!. I can dedicate only so much money on one (or maybe two) games.
Prices are regional and my budget is around Rs. 2000.
  • Devil May Cry 5 Deluxe - Rs. 2244 (-56%) (Nostalgia for older DMCs)
  • Ace Combat 7 Deluxe - Rs. 1749 (-50%) (Played AC04, enjoyed it a lot)
  • Resident Evil 7 + Season Pass - Rs. 1499 (-50%)
  • Resident Evil 2 Deluxe - Rs. 1749 (-50%) (I couldn't play RE1 HD, so I wanted something a bit more modern)
  • Zone of the Enders 2 HD - Rs. 756 (-60%) (I really wanted to play this because mech and Kojima)
  • Evil Within 2 - Rs. 749 (-75%) (NitroRad was very positive about it)
  • Tekken 7 - Rs. 830 (-70%) (Not much into fighting games, tempted by discount)
  • Hat in Time Ultimate Edition - Rs. 612 (-65%)
Among the smaller games, there are many but the few that I see are
  • Hellblade - Rs. 247
  • Catherine Classic - Rs. 332
  • Killer 7 - Rs. 329
  • The MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories - Rs. 454
  • Katamari Damacy REROLL - Rs. 349
  • Just Shapes & Beats - Rs. 395
  • GRIS - Rs. 244
  • Subnautica - Rs. 398
  • Everything - Rs. 81
  • BallisticNG - Rs. 239
  • Wandersong - Rs. 282
  • Wargame: Red Dragon - Rs. 219
Whatever you do you should get wandersong. It's an absolute gem and a genuine feel-good experience everyone needs in their life.

It just seems like the story will be really confusing if you don't know any of the characters or their motivations. I have only played DMC 1, 4 and 5 but playing 4 gives you context for who Nero is and same goes for the supporting cast. If you were only in it for the gameplay I'm sure you would still enjoy the combat.

Facebook is going to kill modding. Yeah. This is bad.

What does this mean for the modding community?
We understand and appreciate the value that modding brings to Beat Saber when done so legally and within our policies. We’re going to do our best to preserve the value that mods bring to the Beat Saber player base. As a reminder, our most recent policy updates give more clarity to how developer mode is intended to be used, such as helping developers build their apps or for enthusiasts to explore new concepts. It is not intended for engaging in piracy or illicit modding, including mods that infringe on third-party IP rights or contain malicious code.
The rise of corporate controlled modding is extremely frustrating. The whole thing reeks of a walled garden console mindset being imposed on PC gaming spaces. Microsoft are probably more benign than most in this regard, but it's still about taking control away. And they'll take away as much control as they can safely get away with. Facebook would be even bigger dicks regarding modding and using non-Oculus headsets and stuff like that if they felt they could get away with it.

The only two Steam awards picks that I cared about and have played enough of to have a strong opinion about are my GOTY pick, Dicey Dungeons, and Most Innovative Gameplay, which very easily goes to Kind Words.

I really don't see valve bothering to make a new controller unless its some type of cloud integrated thing like with Stadia.

Or maybe they are just making room on the assembly line for new VR knuckle controllers that don't cost two hundred and eighty fucking dollars. Pls.

Think I'm done with this sale. In previous years I bought more games in the Autumn sale over every other event, this year however it will probably be opposite (well, there's a chance that I'll buy even less in the Winter one).

I only bought Atelier Sophie, DMC 5, A-Train Classic, Super Bomberman R and Naruto UNS Revolution.

Is there no sales card for 2019 autumn sale? If so, the obvious choice is to wait for winter sales to min-max for card drops. I'm actually disappointed at how tradition of crawling through suggestions for sales cards seem to have become defunct this year.

Also I need help picking out headphones

So when it comes to audio I am not really pickey. Back when I was in middle school I use to use JVC Gummies but those things sucked and would always break after one month, I would also try some more expensive $30 USD (I was in middle school at the time) Siege Audio earbuds which were sort of cool, that company would eventually go out of business. I had issues with earbuds and would later move on to headphones since those do not full out of my ears (I seem to have weird shaped ear canals I guess since I have never been able to get earbuds to fit in properly). So after all of those earbuds I decided to buy some Sony MDRZX110 (or something similar, I got them for $20USD at a Walmart and those things basically lasted me almost 4 years, they were way better than the gummies that I kept buying, why did I keep buying earbuds, maybe they were just easier to carry and I guess they looked cooler?) After the MDRZX headphones I got a pair of Sony MDR v55, I really liked them and thought they were pretty cool, they cost me about $60USD and lasted me about 4 years.

After this I was not sure what headphones to get and I saw a pair of Skullcandy Lowriders for around $20 USD at my work, I ended up using them for about 3-4 months, I stopped using them for 2 reasons, 1 being that at the time I had excess liquid earwax and it would get all over the cup of the headphones so it would look all nasty and other reason being that my phone (which is what I primary planned to use the headphones with was having issues since the headphone jack was jammed up). This lead me to my next pair of headphones the Skullcandy Uproars which I was able to get for around $30USD. Because of the material that these ones have they do not look as nasty as my Lowriders, the bluetooth is also very convenient since I am able to connect to both my phone and my PC audio. I stopped using these because I went to the doctor who told me that I had swimmers ear and that was why I was getting really smelly liquid like earwax. I took some medication and have not had that smelling issues since. I think I may have some tinnitus and other ear issues (I plan to see a ear specialist but have yet to do it). Instead of heaphones I decided to get a pair of Logitech G560 gaming speakers to use on my PC (the things are loud but music sounds nice on them).

I am going to be starting a new job soon and one of the things that I am told that people do at this job while they are working is that they also listen to music on their headphones. I wanted to get a new pair of headphone preferable ones that are under $100USD (it's Black Friday so there are likely to be some very good deals) and that have some form of noise cancelling this way I don't have raise the volume and risk ruining my hearing more. The work environment that I will be in will mostly just be in sort of an office setting where you might hear people typing on their keyboard with some light talking in the backgrounds as well. I mainly plan to use the headphone for work and I will not be using them at home much. So I might be using them for listening sessions of 3-5 hours (8 hours will be my typical work session).

I was able to buy a pair of Skullcandy Hesh 3 for $35USD I would imagine that is a good price for them, one of the issue that people seemed to have with them was the build quality and how easy they break, if the build quality is similar/better than the Uproar I would not mind. The other pair that I was looking to buy are the Skullcandy Venue headphones which have noise cancelling and I am willing to pay $100USD if they really do just that (make it where I can drown out background noise and thus not turn the volume of the headphones too high).

The brand doesn't really matter too much

oh and there was a difference between the lowriders and the Uproars, when I played Team Fortress 2 with the Lowriders the audio sounded "tiney??" but then when I played on the Uproars the game sounded more loader and clearer.

Speaking of headphones, it could be worth it to spend little extra on them to get good ones.

The absolute best pair I've had is Ultrasone Pro 900
Amazon product
A little pricey and they are intended for music producers with emphasis on electronic music, but that is what makes them perfect for games and movies, since they handle base so good, it always very heavy and punchy but it doesn't overwhelm, it still has good range and managed to deliver the smallest of light sounds through while giving that base.

Thank you. What would you pick between RE2 or EW2?
Not the person you quoted but RE2
Also not the person you quoted, but I fully agree with Naroh. RE2 Remake is incredible.

It's one of the rare games I've gotten 100% with and is one of my top 3 games of this year.
We still dont know the exact release date of RDR 2 right?
Sadly no. Hopefully it's early in the month. Though with the recent sales for it I might hold off until it's got a similar discount on Steam.

Ah beat Wolfenstein 2, it was fantastic! Not sure why I got the impression that it wasn't that good, just somehow remember people not being to keen on it.
It has some odd pacing, and the launch version had issues with damage feedback where it was hard to tell you were taking damage. I liked the game. (I also liked Youngblood, with the caveat that it was stretched too thin.) Wolf II has some absolutely beautiful writing. All the MachineGames Wolfenstein games do. Brian Bloom absolutely OWNS the role.
A blessing. To have finished the work I was put on this earth to do. Surrounded by friends that love me. And a great warmth washing over me. I think the sky is on fire. Death at the gates again. Howling my name. Come on in, old buddy. Sorry I made you wait.
Mother. Am I acquitted? Was I righteous and just? Good enough to witness the awe of Heaven? Oh no. Mother. I'm going to hell.
Thank you. What would you pick between RE2 or EW2?
TEW2 is more of a Silent Hill game. It has strong similarities to Silent Hill: Downpour in particular. I think if you like RE4/5/6, go with RE2 Remake. If you have a fondess for Silent Hill, you might want to consider TEW2. I personally preferred TEW2, but it's an odd duck of a game. It does a lot of stuff well, but it has this strange meandering quality to it. And IMHO, both games are inferior to Resident Evil 7 and Alien Isolation and such in terms of being horror games. I'm of the opinion that without clunky controls, third person games struggle to build the kind of horror first person ones manage. (Bear in mind TEW2 has a first person mode they patched in, but the game doesn't take advantage of the perspective the way RE7 and its peers do.) RE2 Remake is a good game, but to be blunt, it wasn't scary. I know some people played it and were terrified, but the only time I ever found Mr X to be scary was when I was experimenting with the first person mod for RE2 Remake.

It feels to me like Resident Evil as as series is torn between embracing being genuinely scary (first person horror as seen in RE7, particularly with VR, which is unfortunately PSVR exclusive), and being a popcorn third person horror-lite (RE2 Remake). And the two sides will never see eye to eye on this. There's a whole lot of baggage around Resident Evil being a Japanese series and Japanese game fans often disliking first person games as a matter of course. (This is despite the fact Resident Evil was originally supposed to be first person and only ripped off Alone in the Dark's camera system due to technical issues.)

There's so much frustrating tribalism in Resident Evil where a lot of vocal fans actively resent the idea of first person Resident Evil, or action Resident Evil, or whatever. There's this "I'm the only person you should cater to" mentality that has poisoned the fanbase to some extent, and it can be very unpleasant. It's the reason why "Which RE games should I play?" recommendations often dissolve into a shitshow.

edit:

Also, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is a really good Resident Evil game that always gets sadly ignored. It was clearly a prototype for RE2 Remake (it's pretty blatantly where red jacket Claire comes from), and its director co-directed RE2 Remake, I believe? Good game. Copped a weird amount of shit for being low budget, because apparently a large portion of the RE fanbase is obsessed with AAA production values.

I guess I’ll get Star Wars first
Not a bad choice either! It's the best Star Wars game to come along in quite a while. Not without it's downsides for sure, but I don't regret buying it one bit. There's a good chance it might even appear on a GOTY top 10 list for me when/if I put one together. :)

Congrats! :blobcheer:

It's one I enjoyed quite a bit despite the mixed reception it received. A lot of folks were disappointed that BJ is rather weak early on compared to the first game which I get. The first made such a great impression and you were pretty powerful from minute one and only became stronger.

A couple of the upgrades you get are a bit underwhelming too so if you choose one of the three early and don't care for it then I can see that souring folks on it. Granted you do eventually get access to all three though it can certainly be a bummer in that moment.

Finished Dark Souls 3 (well, sans The Ringed City DLC)... probably gonna do a LTTP on Era, but some quick thoughts for now. NVM I wrote my LTTP here basically.

I'm glad that I played through Demon's Souls before I got around to really digging into Dark Souls 3. I loved Dark Souls, enjoyed Dark Souls 2, but Demon's Souls was probably my favorite in the series because there was always something new around the corner. Levels all had their unique gimmicks, bosses - while maybe not the hardest - always had something new to show you. That game, as a whole, wasn't just laser-focused - but also wholly original. Even having come from games that had copied many of the ideas from Demon's Souls, those games never really managed to convey the same exact feelings that all of those systems intertwining could give you.

In that sense, playing the last game in the franchise right after playing the first really opened my eyes to just how much of the series' original, well, soul had been lost by the time From had gotten this far. While stuff like the combat was smoother, most bosses just felt the same. Dodge roll at the right time, punish, DON'T GET HIT. Besides the exact timings, the vast majority of these fights are essentially the same sort of encounter as the rest. The few exceptions, meanwhile, feel aped from other games in the series. Curse-rotted Greatwood is just Bed of Chaos but an actual encounter and not as ass. Yhorm is like a mix of the giants from DS2 and the gimmick from Storm King in Demon's Souls.

Levels themselves, for the most part, were relatively small and linear affairs. While there's more to do in Dark Souls 3 than in Demon's Souls, In a way it didn't feel like it because I was railroaded down the one path. Even when the game did branch, it never looped in on itself like Dark Souls 1, or even the moments that Dark Souls 2 did! While the optional areas are great - arguably some of the best areas in the game - they're the exception and not the rule, and the rest of the game is essentially a straight line. The only Lord of Cinder you're allowed to fight at any point is Twin Princes. Abyss Watchers must be 1st or 2nd. Aldrich and Yhorm can both be either 2nd, 3rd, or 4th - but they're both within such close proximity of each other it doesn't matter much at all.

Don't even get me started with just how much the game copies from earlier ones in the series. At the best of times it uses this to its advantage - Smouldering Lake acting like a mix of both Ash Lake and Demon Ruins is great, Most of the time, however, it feels like rather hollow callbacks to earlier games in the series because Dark Souls 3 just isn't allowed to stand on its own merits. Anor Londo making an appearance, briefly, would've been great if the game hadn't come out less than 5 years earlier, and the game wasn't already filled to the brim with nods to Dark Souls 1 to begin with. I know that "poison swamps" are a damn meme by this point, but From have literally put one into every soulslike game and it honestly feels like the one here in DS3 was only included out of a sense of obligation.

Stuff like Archdragon Peak, Cathedral of the Deep (although it does etch relatively close to copying Bloodborne), and the bits I've seen of Ringed City are great. As a concept, Untended Graves was neat, and was a great example of how you can re-use content in a way that it feels like it fits the story. Dark Souls 3 absolutely had some great ideas, but especially now that I've got the entire series under my belt it's disappointing to see how From didn't really try anything "new" for 3. DS2, despite its issues, felt like something different - and in that sense, I think I appreciate it more than 3. 3 is flashy, and the fights are great tests of reflexes, but especially after playing Demon's Souls - I want something more than that. There are countless action RPGs I can go to these days if I just want flashy, difficult boss fights. I can't really go to anyone else for something like Demon's Souls.
