Looking at Atelier Ryza pricing. See that some decorative elements are in the deluxe edition. Slightly nervous.
Considering the Season Pass pricing for the past 3 Atelier entries, anyone will sweat buckets. I can assure you, K-T will milk us for all our worth.
Yeah, I think I'm done with Koei Tecmo.
Up to a certain point I had all their available games on Steam, but I haven't purchased their latest titles. Not even DOA6. Not even the previous Atelier game. And I'll be skipping this one as well.
I dislike not getting all available content for a game, and in the case of their games, the rate at which they release content, and season passes, and their prices, is simply too much.
For most games I own, I also own all DLCs. Well, except their titles.
I can tolerate a season pass (I'm the kind of guy that, when pre-ordering a game, gets the Deluxe or Gold Edition, with the Season Pass included). I can tolerate the occasional DLC. Heck, I buy soundtrack and artbook DLCs for games I like, mostly to support the developers (since I don't even look at most of them), when it's a game I like. I don't need to be asked to buy them, I actually like to "reward" developers with a little extra, when it's something that I like.
But with Koei Tecmo it's different. It's one of the few publishers where I actually felt "exploited" by buying their games:
-you have to pre-order their games, in order to get certain content;
-you have to buy the deluxe edition, to get certain content;
-you have to buy multiple season passes (sometimes 3 in a single year, or more!), in order to get certain content (since their Season Passes have some exclusive content unavailable otherwise);
-they even have the "nerve" of releasing DLCs that aren't included in any of the Season Passes!
It's too much.
Their games are already expensive as it is (50-70€), adding hundreds (sometimes over a thousand!) of € on top of that in DLCs is simply milking people.
And don't tell me most are cosmetic. They strip bonus missions, chapters, modes, off their games, and sell them as DLCs, piece by piece.
With so many other great games around, I feel my money is better spent elsewhere.
For the price, or less, of one of multiple Season Passes that Atelier Ryza will surely have, you can buy multiple great games at full price.
