happy spooptober, enjoy your pumpkin flavored things while they last.

There is so much stuff coming out in October. 😓 But I am broke for a while more still, so I'll just bury myself back in Cyberpunk 2077 lol. It's surprisingly solid game, with a lot to do and explore. I had really low expectations due to the launch, but idk, haven't been hooked this bad on a WRPG since Skyrim.

Again: morally questionable vs possibly illegal.
I don't disagree with you, but I guess what I mean is that Valve really needs to tighten up their certification process, because there's a lot of possibly illegal shit on the store already then.

Given that the game in question was already given a rating in all possible regions, Valve is explicitly stepping in to say 'nah fuck that', despite the regulatory agencies already gave their verdicts. I don't think Nintendo would allow games with straight up children abuse in them.

baked goods is where it's at. Muffins, breads, pies. 😋
Craft beers too this time of year. 🍻

Agreed on PSL. Dunno about medicine taste, but they tend to be over-indulgent, super sugary affairs that make me go "bleh" after a sip or two.
I just bought some non-dairy pumpkin spice creamer and make coffee at home, that way I can control the sweetness. I love the pumpkin spice flavor though, so I am happy it's that time of the year.

Speaking of spooky month, is anyone going to play any horror games? I'm thinking about trying SOMA which I've had for years, or possibly buying some smaller indie horror games.

The game has been approved by rating boards and is releasing on Nintendo Switch. But it's POSSIBLY ILLEGAL.
Yeah, that must have been Steam motivating factor. You never know. Because it could be illegal. Somehow. Somewhere.

My list:

Luigi's Mansion 3
Pumpin' Jack
Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water
I played Pumpkin Jack back when it came out, that was a pretty fun romp. It's perfect for the season.
Luigi's Mansion 3 is one I still haven't played either, maybe that should go on my October list.
As far as Fatal Frame goes, that is one series I have always wanted to get into. I'm a big fan of Silent Hill and other PS2 era horror games, so I definitely think I would like it. I didn't hear the greatest things about Maiden of Black Water though, just a lot of complaining. I do hear that the new one is supposedly pretty good and was directed by Suda51 who I love, so maybe I could give the next one a try.

Best horror game:

some great deal IG

If you're looking for small indie horror games look for Chilla's art games on Steam

Visage always looked good, definitely inspired by P.T. which I enjoyed.

I have been seeing Chilla art's games around for a while now, and that new one The Bathhouse that was posted earlier looks really interesting, might have to give that one a try.

My favorite Chilla's Art game is Convenience store

It's very short game (well it's less than 3 euros game XD) but it was quite good.

First: Thanks for the thread Mor

Second: I went through the OP opening in new tabs the games I would like play at release or soon, looked at the number of tabs and though .... "oh oh". Then saw the some of the "regional" prices.,... and yeah.... I'm screwed.

But hey... I'm also going to upgrade my ancient 4 core CPU (so basically a new computer sans GPU) very soon so it's not like I will have any money left anyways :p

I would hope so. As I said, it is possible that Valve was overzealous in this case. However, it is very important for people to understand that there are no actual laws about making, distributing or playing a game in which you have sex with Hitler. Offensive content is widely considered ok if you are an adult, which is why age ratings are applied. There are actual, very strict laws in most countries about content involving the things Valve is apprehensive about.

Valve has always been weird about VNs, this is well known. They don't seem to have any clear rules for what's allowed and not. Many VN devs have reported that Steam approving VNs is like random.

This is why we have so many rating boards, whose job it is to determine the suitability of a game for each age group and, ultimately, forbid its publication on the board's country or market. I'm not sure if they can deem a game 'illegal', I suppose it depends on the board and the laws of that country, but we are not even talking about a fringe case that would be divisive. We are talking about a game that will be sold in supermarkets.

I really should play one this month! HMMMMM... My massive backlog contains many, many horror games. SOMA would be a good choice for me as well, as I've been putting it off for years. I did watch PossiblyPudding play some Pumpkin Jack for about 10-15 minutes yesterday and that does seem pretty fun! HMM... too many optionssssss.

I am going to be focusing on horror movies this month, though, getting in at least 31 new ones. Started immediately at midnight last night with Bodies Bodies Bodies lol

Yeah I have the hardest time choosing which game to play and already playing several long ass games, so I don't think I will play spooky games this year.
If I could squeeze one, RE Village would probably be it, I'm LTTP as fuck on it.

Good call on Soma, maybe Amnesia Rebirth too. The thing is, while I'm officially too busy with other games, I should admit that I'm still a little creeped out from my last horror gaming binge. I must have chained A Machine for Pigs, If on a Winter's Night and The Last Door. The accumulation was a little much.

Do play Soma, its great!

But it's not a good horror game, in my opinion - it's really more of a story driven game.

Indeed. Maybe the open platform is the issue? Is the submitted version an already censored one? Maybe the possibility of a patch is spooking them?

I can hear you, but if the possibility of a patch is the issue, I would say they have unwisely chosen the platform they sell games on.
On the other hand, I'm not sure Spike Chunsoft would be dumb enough to submit the original uncensored version to steam.

And it's official, Moonbreaker will dump its stupid ticket system next week. Talk about failing your EA launch for dumb reasons.

Spooking who? Valve? There are mods for TS4 which allows for some really fucked up things.
Is the problem the fact that Spiuke Chunsoft doesn't rate the PC versions of their games? I don't get why Valve would be so anal about that though, Valve didn't even rate Alyx from what I can see.

The lead writer and main artist of Disco Elysium, literally one of the best games ever made all time of history precisely because of its writing and art (and music) were fired a year ago?

So that means Disco Elysium 2 or whatever follow up is pretty much dead as it will be made by entirely different people.

Worse videogame news than all acquisitions combined

Which game do you think is possibly illegal ?
The one releasing in every major retail stores and passed through all rating boards ?
Or Sex with Hitler ?

Valve has no grounds to invoke a legal argument here, because other structures already handled that question.

Again, the game never had pornographic content. Never.
It was originally a Xbox 360 release. It got a CERO Z rating (something like PEGI 18 or ESRB Mature) due to graphic violence and describtions of said violence.
And no, the PC game Noah is based on also wasn't a 18+ title.
There's no patch that will add child pornography to the game because it never had any pornography to begin with.

The staff behind Disco Elysium have left the studio.
The blog post says it was involuntary - so they seem to have been fired.

So many possibly great games releasing this month, and the only game I would have bought Day 1 (because of a pledge to myself to finish some backlog until the Winter Sale) was banned with C;H. FFS Valve, literally ALL of the other Science;Adventure games are on your fucking store, why not this one?!?!

I'm amazed how good rcps3 works on SteamDeck.
