After you open the Playstation launcher. :evilblob:

Outright admitting your game will run poorly and killing Steam Workshop are certainly moves. I'm smelling a Mixed review score in the near future.

I mentioned this elsewhere too, but as much as I love what Valve and Steam have done for the PC world, they have made no effort to make their tools available outside of Steam. I'm sure the Paradox mod thing is gonna be iffy but it'll let more people engage with mods which is a good thing, C:S1 always was two very different worlds between PC and console which wasn't ideal.

EOS, for all their sketchy practices, shows that Valve should have branched out with their toolset at some point. Some kind of Steam Overlay plugin for games would have been amazing, potentially allowing for workshop and such across platforms, but the overlay still is wonky a lot of the time even on PC

Edit: They may actually be overstating the performance issues, some of the pre-release content creators have had it running fine on high settings with like 10 year old CPUs, although we'll have to see what the actual majority get out of it.

fine with them being forthright about dogshit performance

better than the norm

but, pc players have to lose steam workshop to accommodate console players? wtf
You want to bet that they will introduce paid mods in a few months?

They had those in C:S1, the content creator packs. The creators did actually get paid for those which was nice, and it was the only way for console players to get those assets because no workshop.

I am all for offering console players mods. But i really doubt that consoles are their main userbase. So they are sacrificing good thing that they had with their biggest userbase to get more money and offer limited mods to smaller userbase.

They want it to be though, like every publisher.

Console players are easier to fleece.

I'm skeptical that they're sacrificing much of anything, I suspect the mod scene is going to be, if anything, bigger for C:S2. Like yea, depending on the UI and ease of use and freedom, it's a worse user experience for Steam PC players to otherwise be identical to what C:S1 had, but that's a lot of caveats. It'd be great if they left Steam Workshop as an option but no idea how easy it is to support two mod platforms, it completely depends on their implementation.

Also let's not pretend like the Workshop is some super modern, user-friendly environment, it's one of the most outdated parts of Steam now and I always get frustrated when using it to try and FIND mods and navigating them (installing them obviously couldn't be easier) on any game. It's a great tool to have but it's outdated and extremely platform-locked, and more restrictive than places like Nexus (which is still my go-to for mods if they have them).

More options for the customer is better, but I find it hard to blame them for focusing on the one mod platform every one of their players can use.

Paradox is often overlooked on the "shittiest publishers" list
Yup, they whale like the worst of them. Only you pay £40-£60 upfront only for them to further shaft you over an 18 month period with £400 worth of DLCs.

I 110% expect them to do paid mods so they bring that number up to £800 over 24 months.

I think it’ll be fine.

It’s not gonna be as good as P5/R or P5S, but I think it’ll be a fun sideshow like the Q games on 3DS.

Speaking of, I hope Atlus brings the Q games to PC. Might be an opportunity to finally dub Q2, which felt like it was missing something for me because the battle banter wasn’t subbed in the English release (plus I think the P5 localisations are generally good anyway).

Might also be good to take the time to redub Q1 with the new P3 cast.
I honestly don't expect those games to come to PC but you never know.

I just want SMTV for fuck's sake. This is getting ridiculous.

What hw monitor do you guys use nowadays? I need something that's lightweight and to the point. I'm finally getting rid of msi afterburner and rivatuner since they're no longer updated and nvidia has frame limiter in the gpu driver nowadays and that's mainly what I used rivatuner for, limit fps per game when they don't have a setting of their own, and afterburner just to monitor cpu/gpu usage & temperatures. Oh maybe also a screenshot function, I used that as well.

If anything Valve, and bethesda, are also the only one that have already attempted to a paid mod future
Paradox have been using his platform for years now, there are thousands of mods available for all of their game so if they wanted to they could have already started some kind of subscription
Paradox is shitty and all but yeah, lets not start a witch hunt on nothing

Because I have multiple undervolt profile and want per game framerate limit, Afterburner + RTSS still the best. Adding per game framerate limit profile is quicker on RTSS too, just ctrl+click add on RTSS while the game is running and choose the game process.

If I'm testing stabilty/oc though, hwinfo is the goat.

I actually didn't realize they already had mods on it since I bypass the launcher, but that's interesting.

It would be a (very) small amount of people impacted but I could see some creators limiting what they put up for free and continuing to work with Paradox to make Content Creator Packs. ASFAIK those packs largely used assets the creators had already made available on the workshop, but I could be wrong on that.

Even so, the amount of people that use those free workshop assets and then don't buy the CCP is probably minuscule, and this is all hypothetical as we don't really know what the approach to C:S2 will be outside of knowing it's still gonna have plenty of DLC.

Going on that tangent, I know people tend to demonize the DLC style of Paradox, Sims, et all but I know I did the math on Sims (one of the biggest DLC games ever) and buying LITERALLY everything (which almost no one would do), at full price, for the time Sims 4 has been out, amounted to being cheaper than playing WoW for the same time period. C:S1 with all DLC is way cheaper than that and the DLC goes on sale all the time, I have all of the non-music ones and I think I spent less than $100 total on DLC + game over the 8 years it has been out.

Lots of games have shitty monetization and one could certainly argue that MMOs like WoW are not worth their cost either, but I vastly prefer the C:S1 DLC "scheme" where I can pick and choose (if I want to) what I actually care about and get meaningful updates for free to boot. Beats the hell out of a subscription, or buying premium currency, or loot boxes / gacha, or just an abandoned game.

Again though, I would love if Valve would develop a way for developers to utilize parts of Steam (multiplayer, workshop, chat / screenshots even) outside of Steam, but I don't think I've ever even heard a hint of a rumor that was something that was on the table. Given the increasingly cross-platform nature of modern games, I don't think implementing cross-platform tools is the wrong choice for devs. It's probably easier for them, and strictly speaking it's probably more fair for the players. PC is still going to have and edge for C:S2 in the long run almost certainly for performance reasons, but it's nice the console players aren't just being left in the dust again.

Edit: TheTrain just to be clear none of this is directed at you, just bouncing off your post

Microsoft/Mojang have paid mods in Minecraft Bedrock with Minecraft Marketplace. So its not just Valve and Bethesda.

I played an hour of NFS Undercover and let me just say it has not held up that well.

In the past NFS wasn't really hiding that it was trying to be The Fast & the Furious, but in this game it's like they are really trying to be as close as they can and it just didn't work out.

I've played a bit about it, and the "story" just makes no sense.
By committing random crimes, you are somehow aiding in setting up and arresting these gang member. How? No one knows.

And the gameplay is really a step down from Most Wanted and even Carbon (which pretty much only had the canyon races going for it)

On my PC I use Hwinfo64 with a StreamDeck (each button displays data like CPU and GPU load and temp, HDD/SSD load and network up/dl).
On my Synology and Linux headless server I use netdata.

Watching half of the gaming industry turning on Tim Sweeney and Epic is kinda funny. Only 4 years ago they were champions and saviors of the gaming industry.
I guess it was rather people sticking their head in Tim's ass in order to get some of these millions Epic was throwing around.

I can't say enough how lucky we are that the majority of PC gamers used their heads and voted against Epic's money hatting with their wallets. Epic being in control of PC games distribution would have been a disaster for PC gaming.

It’s basically this. The industry loves nothing more than a good old fashioned gold rush. And I mean indies, AAAs, and everyone in-between when I say that.

I don’t necessarily mean that as a bad thing either - you gotta eat after all. But Epic was offering an all you can eat buffet and people chose to gorge while Epic was footing the bill.

Now the offer’s gone, the sad (for Epic) truth is there was never any other value there, so people won’t hand-wave the bullshit anymore.

I found it funny how as part of the videos for Undercover, there is a part where the camera just focuses on the ladies leg. Why??? Later on after you win some races and there is this one girl eying you. Is this a possible love interest? Of Course not, does any one even have names in this game?

The racing is weird in this game because it doesn't feel like you have to brake at all, it's like you stop pushing the gas button when you are coming to a cover and if you wait long enough the car will "auto drift"

Should I go small Windows NVMe + games SSD or big NVMe with Windows and games ?
I can see an advantage with going small in that if I need to reinstall Windows I don't have to worry about my data.

You can put multiple partitions on the big NVMe, and thus you can still reinstall Windows and keep your data. Of course, with your rotten luck , maybe a separate disk is better. In fact, go full RAID-1 and buy four disks: two in a RAID-1 for Windows and two in a RAID-1 for data. If you lose any one of them, you should still be good to go.

I try to avoid partitioning.

But I also have an absurd number of drives in my gaming PC:
  • 1x 2TB Gen3 NVMe (Windows and some AAAs)
  • 2x 2TB Gen4 NVMEs (for modern games that make the most of SSDs)
  • 2x 1TB SATA SSDs and 1x 8TB SATA SSD (for any other game)
My advice would be to use different drives if you want that separation. Windows doesn’t necessarily benefit from a super mega fast ultra drive, but your games will, so maybe consider getting a cheap-ish 256gb drive for just Windows and then go all out with your game drive.

I’d also consider a SATA SSD for games that won’t make the most of an NVMe, because NVMe storage is premium and it’d be a waste to use it with games that aren’t making the most of it.

Unless you’re someone who is happy to uninstall and reinstall as you go along, in which case it won’t much matter.

They’re not cheap, but not as expensive as they used to be.

I don’t even really need all my storage. I use, at best, about 30% of it. But what having so many drives buys me is peace of mind that I’ll probably never run out of space.

The thing I don't understand about the Bandcamp situation is that they were a profitable business. Even as a subsdiary of Epic they were bringing in more than it was costing to run them. Why would you pull a profitable, standalone part of your business into your cost cutting plan? If you just ignored them you would end up with more money in your bank account than you started with. And to cut that source of income off while promising to continue shoveling money into the endless pit that is the EGS is some next level business strategy that I guess non-billionaires like me just cannot understand :surrenderblob:

In other news, today has been absolutely brutal for regional pricing hikes in my country at least;

Amazon more than doubled the price of New World right before a new expansion is due to come out.

Milestone increased the price of Hot Wheels 1 and it's DLC two days before the sequel to the game releases and makes it obsolete (in a manner of speaking).

Microsoft quadrupled the price of the Halo Masterchief Collection. To be fair, the collection had old regional pricing before this but I do not want to be fair because now the price here is more than the US dollar price. Fuck that.

Activision hiked up the prices of their whole catalog including games like Zork and Police Quest and all. You know, those games that released in 1987 or so? Activision decided they were selling them for less than their fair value THIRTY SIX YEARS later.

We live in a poor country man. What the fuck :disappointed-face:

Unlimited cloud storage should be more affordable. I mean, for more storage you have you always need more. I have ~75TB physical and I run out of space every week. I've 1GB D/U internet connection speed data and usually download more than 1TB/week. And everytime I have to choose what to keep and what to remove.
Amazon prime started offering unlimited storage for Prime members years ago but them removed this few month later. I tried unlimited storage for stutents on Google cloud but few weeks after uploading some shows -for perosonal use without sharing them- they removed those accounts when I uploaded nearly 25TB (I suppose cause automatic copyright checks).
Cloud storage prices are insane and it's quite sad because something great is you have everything in just one site and nicely indexed. You can have RAIDs or multiple physical drives but soon or later you always full fil them.
