Bad news for the Battletech fans.

Sounds like PDX still owns the game and all that code despite cutting HBS free, so if they wanted to make Battletech 2, they'd probably have to call it something else and start all over. HBS truly running on their own now. 😭

Mitch Gitelmann was on twitter talking about it. I hate that place so I won't link it, but you can find it he's mitchgit on there.

I'm like 7 hours into my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 and some technical hiccups aside (trying to dial in the graphics settings, everything defaulted to hyper-max-ultra-deluxe and a few things need to be at like, not that on my desk PC), I am absolutely loving it. I'm surely not the biggest nerd of cyberpunk setting out there but it feels very immersive and atmospheric to me. There are still plenty of little glitches / animations bumps that break it a bit but still.

I'm pretty sure I've barely spent any time on the main story, but I've done a bunch of side gigs and have liked them. Also breaking my normal habit of going sniper first in games like this (Fallout 3 / NV / 4 / Skyrim / etc.) and am going loud, shotguns and LMGs and beefy.

Fuck.
Well, on the other hand, the biggest issue with BATTLETECH was the engine and the code.
And Paradox can claim they own the name, but Battletech is owned by Microsoft, the name in capitalized letters may be separate, but they can just call it Battletech 2.
And this is the one instance where I want Microsoft to buy the developer. Not only are they near collapse, but they have immense synergy. It would be a crime if Microsoft didnt buy HBS and let them work on another battletech game.

I installed the chunky SSD in my case. It just took a couple of hours. Don't ask. Never give me manual labor. I even had to download my case doc as for the life of me it has disappeared (and I know it hasn't).

Now everything is nice and tidy and, wait, I have to open the case back to put old hdd for data transfer ?
...
Christ.

Yeah, I have some old shitty dock. No idea if it's 3.0 or if my case is even correctly setup for that.
It's doing a couple dozens Go in a couple of minutes right now, I'll allow that.

The pain is coming when I will point it to the 300 Go folder :sweaty-blob:

Total Commander is showing 56 800 ko/s, is it usb 3.0 level ? 2.0 ? Hamster on a wheel in the boonies level ?

ko/s huh? That's a lotta files getting knocked out. I think that's 56 MB/s? Probably usb 3.0.

I get that Paradox stock already took a beating thanks to HBS/Lamplighters League but I really don't understand why they're rushing C:S2 when it's by far the biggest Paradox game for the foreseeable future and clearly not ready to the point that you have devs outright admitting that before release.
If the game runs like shit and/or there are other issues Steam reviews will crush the game and it'll take months to recover anyway, so why not delay it to next year and launch simultaneously with the console release?

Hoping I am not making feel offended or something but...

Playing certain games is not an identity of any sort or taking part of any political meaning. At least I play games for the entertainment it can give me. If I buy a game that was created by someone controversial it is not to support that certain person. It is that I want to play the game to have fun.
There are other things to worry about than these LBTQ issues, like the Ukraine war, Israel/Palestine conflict and other conflicts with lethal outcomes.

Many issues are just non-problems created for just more hate for all parties.

Oh yeah I do know the problematic nature around the IP, and do understand why people would not play it. But I do hope it doesn't bother anyone if I do talk about it.
No issue for me, though I personally don't feel comfortable spending money on a franchise that supports someone who is still doing everything in her power to hurt people of a vulnerable minority. I understand that not everyone feels that way, or wants to think too much about it. I simply avoid talking about such games, which seems overall the best way to me deal with these things.

You are aware LGBT isssues do in fact have lethal outcomes right? Racism, Homophobia, Transphobia, and Anti Semitism all very commonly have lethal outcomes. We literally have multiple people who aren’t even LGBT being murdered because of their appearance due to transphobia. Culture War issues are very real issues.

Like people can play Hogwarts or whatever but come on now.

This is my stance.

I’ll happily encourage people to not give Rowling any money. But it’s your entertainment and your choice.

The anti-LGBTQ (bowel) movement has driven (and celebrates) vulnerable people to commit suicide.

Yes global conflicts are bad. But that doesn’t make other issues not important. The TERFs want to genocide transgender people, and have linked hands with fascists like Putin to try and accomplish that.

There are many reasons to boycott games, I personally don't boycott games, hell one of the best games ever made, Minecraft, is made by also the biggest cunts, is a game I often go back to.

I do however boycott Epic as a whole, but would still probably get Alan Wake 2 on console if it turns out. to be good.

I did debate with myself about Hogwarts Legacy because the creator is a seriously dangerous person, as with Minecraft I did still decide to play it.

Deku As other have mentioned the issues are important, and also can care about several issues at the same time even if they are of different severity, to someone personally.

Didn't think through entirely about this. I stand corrected.

But it doesn't justify me or anyone else that wants to play certain games to be same as the creator, (who wasn't even part of the game development other than creating the wizarding world).

Just suppress the hate, doesn't help when everyone hates each other...

I don't know who or what TERF is, there are way too many acronyms to keep up with

On the game's release anybody who bought or played the "wizard game" was labelled a TERF

The conversation around the game was fucking terrible

Yeah it was a total shit show. Multiple streamers/vtubers got harassed and threatened for choosing to play it. To this day era considers anyone who played it a terf as well. Like they called zepla (ffxiv streamer) one and I was confused thinking I had missed something big, then later they said it was because she chose to play hogwarts. I know I'm old but back in my day we saved those kinds of terms for people who actually did or said something bad not because they played a game or watched a movie.

Boycotting is fine in case I have to clarify my stance on this. It's a very personal decision though and not one that can be forced onto others

Hey guys, have you heard the news? PC now means Portable Computer (read the last sentence in the job ad):

So they are looking for their own YosP? I'm pretty sure that he does a lot more at PS, but from my understanding doesn't YosP play a big role with his team to choose the PS indie games like Fallguys, Stray, and Sifu? And make them PS launch exclusive? So picking winners.

The tweet Was deleted but the review is up

I will probably sound like i am whining but honestly i see Digital Foundry less and less as PC outlet. Again they somehow manage to release video for each console release on day 1 or very, very shortly after release. Meanwhile their PC coverage is far and few between. As far as i know they hired additional person for PC coverage and despite that they are releasing less PC videos overall. I mean i don't need PC performance review month later.

I think that's fair to say. Alex Battaglia does great work but it's clear he is swamped with work and almost everyone else is on console releases that usually have tiny differences not really worth discussing. But hey, those console comparisons probably get a lot of platform war-motivated clicks so it is what it is. I wish DF had more PC-focused staff.

On their defense, Alex optimized settings take a huge amount of trial and error, and with how certain games are nowadays, broken on release with day 1 patches, or even week 1 patches, it's likely that work in progress ends up being invalidated by patches and parts of the review ends up needing to be re-tested, which results in later video releases.

It helps that videos about the consoles releases are also alot more straightforward to make.
