In my case, it's not so much feeling like I need to play certain games.
I'm the kind of guy that, if I'm not having fun with a game, I drop it, with no hesitation.

It's more a case of:
I'm having a blast with a certain game. A new game comes out that I really want to play, and I start playing it. Before I know it, I went a couple of months without playing that first game, and now I have to drop it, since I no longer remember what is happening with it, story-wise.
Then, a new game comes out that I really want to try, and I end up doing the same for that second game.
Repeat, and you get a lot of unfinished games (that I want to replay or finish), on top of all the ones I never even started playing (that I bought, with the obvious intention of playing).

I used to love playing long RPGs, it was always my favourite genre, but now, I'm more likely to play either games I can just pick up and play, without a plot (pinball games, or shmups, for example), or short, 2-4 hour games.
I guess it varies from person to person. I ‘suffer’ from this as well but I don’t mind it honestly.
The new Nvidia driver is "game ready" for Code Vein! It's actually happening.
I hope they upgraded the physics for the tid...tides of the ocean!

so the 5700 XT is the best "mid range GPU" to buy now? I was looking at the 2070 Super before but its performance increase vs price increase isnt that great. I am currently rocking a 970.

I buy games on Switch, they are not fucking cheap, and I don't have time to play them.
Create a spreadsheet, or a text file, whatever, and write down the games which you want to purchase.
Wait for a month, and check whether you still want them. If you still do and have nothing better to play, then purchase them.
It is always better to have money than games.

To play after that
You can scrap this list. You will never get to play these games, given the size of the "To play soon" section.

If you finish a game per month, you can hold till May 2020 wihtout playing or purchasing any other game.

Then, I look at Grim Dawn, a game I'm really enjoying, and don't want to drop it, and after months I'm still on chapter 3.
You poor soul, this is gonna be a long journey !
I'm near the finish line of act 7 and I won't lie, I will be relieved. I thought I started a nice little Diablo-like, nobody told me it was gigantic :fearful-face:

I've had this same problem of playing games, getting side-tracked by other games, going back to the game after months and re-starting, being side-tracked again, etc and never finishing something.

I still do that, except I got rid of the "re-starting" part of this loop and it makes a huge difference. I know it's easier said then done, but do give it a try.
Just boot up the game and continue. Yeah, you'll be lost a bit with controls or story, but it takes far less time to read through a quest log or similar and taking a look at the control/help section then restarting from scratch. Reading a few keywoards will likely also jog your memory and you'll remember things faster than you think.

Like last year I continued playing my 4 year old/~40 hours Spellforce save and after ~30 minutes to an hour I was mostly good to go again and finished it.

Y’know, as much as I shit talk Sega, they’re my favorite publisher/dev. They cater to my tastes, and even if they act in bizarre ways sometimes, at least they arent afraid of trying new things.

A while ago, I spent one afternoon listening to podcasts/music and tiering my backlog just to get a bit of an overview of what I've got. Tier 1 is stuff I genuinely want to play and is probably worth my time. Tier 2 is made up of games that I'd like to play at some point but for some reason (e.g. length or complexity) I won't be able to get into easily. Tier 3 is mostly extra stuff I got from bundles, games I've accepted I won't finish or play, mediocre stuff. It definitely helped me narrow down what to get into next whenever I'm in doubt. I think I should give Tier 3 another pass and just remove games that I've decided I won't play (anymore).
This is an excellent idea that I'm going to do over the next week or so.

In theory yeah, and I want to try it. But my library is already sorted by genre, the idea of unsorting 1000+ games is scaring me shitless. I suppose I could only do another category but it will be a little more disorienting. Eh, I have no choice.

In Steam, I just added it as an extra tag (_backlog T1-3). This way it doesn't disrupt my existing categorization and it's all neatly at the bottom of the list (because of the underscore).

I add games to my "to play soon" backlog faster than I finish them. This is a problem.

:anguished-face:
It may seem silly, but I'm finding that having an excessive number of games to play can be a bad thing. :(
I'm always torn between starting a new game, or continuing another.
I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I'm getting more enjoyment out of getting more games on discount or a far smaller number of games full price but recently released.
I've been sticking (sort of) to a rule that I buy one game per month. That way I can play something cool that I was looking forward to but still dig into my old library for games I just couldn't get to because it's impossible. So that's pretty low pressure, it's one or two games per month or more if you want to. I'm saving more money and I'm not playing games out of obligation so it's more fun.

This month I've gotten Knights & Bikes, Blasphemous (both from kickstarter though). The game I bought was the Battletech humble monthly, which, yes will result in a load of games I probably won't play, but who cares.

I would not change anything. However, assume the worst, typically losing all your categories.
Wasn't there a way to backup your categories ? Memory is hazy.

Jkm23 I get like that every few months too. I've held off buying tons of games because i am playing FFXIV and now i'm giving that a rest and playing Greedfall. I frequently go for a week or two without touching anything other than my go-to comfort games. I stopped thinking of my backlog as a backlog and more like the Library it represents. It's much less stressful.

Deques You're a MONSTER!
It is a library lol. Literally in the section of steam and in volume of games!
My PC collection and PS4 collection have been getting the love recently. My PS3 collection of games, which is approaching 50, has been sorely neglected. I'm not sure if its the technical quality of the PS3 that's been bugging me lately, the lack of new releases after I've mined the depths of the "hidden gems" and have pretty much ever PS3 game I ever wanted or just that I've been renting PS4 games from the library. Sigh. The DualShock 3's are not getting any less worn.... Thankfully the DS4 works with my PS3!!

Halloween is coming up and I have a special category of games to play then and only then..... It could get me back in the game completing habit... Hopefully.

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC: But I have similar issue when it comes to graphic novels, I'll take out 10 from the library, finish 4 over the course of three weeks. :( Whoops. Yeah, its a pattern with me. Sometimes I just have to clear the noise and read. Maybe'll I'll need to do something similar with games, as I have a habit of using Netflix/hulu on my side monitor while playing console or pc on my main monitor.... Might need to go back to just listening on the radio like the old days.

Gamivo is pretty much in the same tier as Kinguin, they just have a smaller base of sellers and no buyer protection bs iirc

Personally I just buy what I want whenever I want (if the price is good enough and I have "budget left").
I keep track of all my purchases in a fancy google sheet so that I easily see how much money I've already spent. I don't really have a fixed budget set for game purchases (except the vague notion of "reasonable"), but I look at that number, the games I bought, the games I haven't played yet, how good the deal is, etc and decide based on that.
This is year for example is 266€ for 114 games (of course that includes bundle games I don't care about tho).

Level: G2A

It's a marketplace with lots of shady dealers, you might get lucky, you might get screwed. Last week they had a good deal for wallet funds, bought some for Xbox and PSN which went fine, then got 50€ for Steam, key didn't work, wasn't even used, was 100% fake. Support offered me the paid amount in store funds after the dealer didn't respond, took it, dunno if they'd offered a complete refund if I'd refused. Also that rating system for merchants is complete bs, it says 99% or 100% for everyone.

No new bundle today, but you can still get last weeks if you haven't :)

Been playing Immortal Planet from it and it's absolutely fantastic.

It really is a sci-fi 2D souls-like (without the multiplayer).
Gives me the same sense of wonder, tension, challenge, and euphoria.
Highly recommended, especailly for a god damn single dollar.

Do you think you'll play all 114 of them? I can't even imagine trying to get through that kind of volume. It's like the more there is for me, the more mental "noise" that goes on around them. At this point I feel like I don't want hundreds more games even if they were free because then I'd have to figure out what they all are. (not to mention spending 3 hours redeeming steam keys in that scenario)

Lol no, not even gonna try. :02shrug:
Like I said, a lot of them are from bundles, and when you buy a bundle for 1 or 2 games and get like 6 others it adds up.
Essentially I have certain purchase tiers:
Is it a day 1/full price purchase? Definitely gonna play it the moment I'll buy it.
Sale purchases I also priorize, but a few super cheap ones may or may not fall through the cracks occasionally (aka I only get around to them months later).
With bundles I'm fine as long as play one or 2 shortly after buying the bundle. Others I might get to months (or sometimes years) later, others never, but I don't mind as long as I "got my money's worth" out of some of the games.
Essentially my rule of thumb is the more I'm willing to pay for a game, the more I also focus on playing them.

I've made peace with the fact that I'm buying more games than I play and I don't really mind as long as my spending is within "reasonable" bounds.
I do play quite a bunch of them though, like this year I'm closing in on 70 completed games (a lot more than the previous ones, but I also have been playing way more short games than long ones so it's expected. Also those aren't all games I bought this year).

Just to correct what I said initially, like derExperte pointed, they do have buyer protection service bs.

Otherwise they are just like Kinguin, just smaller. I needed support from them about three times and they usually solved my issues within 12 hours.
