I know that it isn't that interesting but I want to talk about the state of the retail on PC, because this year sure is worrying. (For me at least, I still buy a lot of boxed thing)
If we are going to analize a bunch of the fall release available on PC we can see that:
  • The Surge 2 (Only Digital, The Surge had a retail version)
  • Code Vein (Only Digital, Namco was one of the most prominent in that sense)
  • Gears 5 (Only Digital, all of the Microsoft games were available boxed thanks to the relationship with THQ)
  • Control (Only Digital, AW and QB were boxed with godlike standard edition)
  • Destiny 2 (Only Digital, the first one had one of the boxed-only-code-inside edition thanks to Activision, better than nothing I would say)
  • Remnant: From the Ashes (Only Digital)
  • Borderlands 3 (Only Digital)
Where does this leave us?
We still have THQ Nordic, Capcom and SEGA doing really good standard and collector's edition of their games but it seems that a lot of Publishers (Especially on the AA space) are abandoning completely the retail on PC, and it's a fucking shame.
All the Epic deal also played a role on this because aside Metro (Which we know that there were a lot of retail preorders prior to the deal) there isn't a game that it's available digitally and retail aswell.
It sure tells something if BigBen is waiting the Steam release of The Sinking City to release also the retail version of the game.
What's the point of a retail release, when all you get is a Steam code or a Steam installer and you have to download the whole thing anyway. It makes sense for nostalgia editions like the big box release of Ion Fury and such but that's about it imo.

I will miss retail console games though :D

Going out of your way to optimize games by third parties so they can control better when you remote play them on mobile and tablets seems fucking crazy, really.

Every time i see someone saying something about Valve and laurels i die a little inside.

Stardew is perfect. Tip for anyone having trouble with it: Sometimes it takes two starts to get the Big PIcture overlay to connect with Stardew. It's a problem I've had forever with my Steam controller, and I just ran into it now. It might not be an issue for everyone, but it's something to remember.

I know it's probably the easiest one to configure, but Dicey Dungeons plays wonderfully with the touchscreen. It's going to be a killer when it hits mobile.

Just caught this line in a random webpage talking about Code Vein :
"Getting it to run at a stable 60fps with all details maxed out at 4K on our Alienware Area 51M with an Intel Core i9 9900K, 32GB RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 2080Ti was painless"

I sure hope so, motherfucker :so-good-blob:

All that hardware and they perfectly content at 60fps/2160p. Aim higher!~ :02police:

Code Vein is at 18k concurrent players and it isnt even the official release date in NA yet. If it crosses 25k (Which it likely will). It'll be one of Namco's biggest PC releases of all time. Only behind DragonBall FighterZ (42k), Dark Souls 2 (The original) (79k) and Dark Souls 3 (130k). The player count is going up by several hundred people every time I refresh, Its only been out for an hour.

Looks like Namco's attempt to fill in the Dark Souls shaped hole in their wallet is working out really well and their games usually dont peak in player count until a few days after release.

Wow. That's honestly unexpected for me. Good for them, I'll pick it up later at a discount.

madjoki Do you have any idea about the reason why there are duplicate market listings with an #Economy hashtag?

Legit:

vs. dubious:

No idea.

Speculation:

But looks like translation server failed when those were posted (maybe when item was generated?), and it has for some reason have translation tag in market hash (part in url, which is how market groups by in addition to appid). It would get fixed when item refreshes (eg. is bought from market).

Similar happens when mystery cards were renamed, there will be phantom entry.

Like many modern gamers, I like checking games on Twitch to see how they look before I buy them.

WHY THE HELL DID THEY REDESIGN TWITCH TO BE SO HIDEOUS TODAY?

Hey, finally I'm back to Sweden after a business trip to Germany. Still not quite home yet. We arrived late at the airport and were late to catch the train back to my hometown.

New month soon. Has the challenge been decided? Will it be the "don't buy any new games" challenge?

I have a suggestion to a second challenge. Since some of you have mentioned about spooktober, why not start and finish a horror themed game?

I played Code Vein and well, within 3 hours the game crashed on me 3 times. Luckily I did not lose a lot of progress, Character creation is cool (why must games that Shift be involved with have an mute MC that feels out of place in the game)?. I am able to get the game at above 100 fps on my PC.

Combat is weird in the game and will take some getting use to. I still do not understand parring since in other games they make it more clear visually. Movement is just not that good in this game and it feel like your character is skating on ice since they don't stop on a dime and instead they skid a bit even though they are not running.

The story is weird but it is decent.

I am able to play the game max out at 1440p at around 100fps, my PC does sound very loud though.

What are " laurels "?

I guess Code Vein is very popular than, earlier today there was the THQ publisher sale and it got the store banner but after Code Vein came out that became the store banner (remember it must have been Bandai that payed Valve for that /s)

By the way I kept my character in Code Vein as simple as possible

A lot higher than The Surge 2 then despite all the praise and people said it has better combat.

If there's no Digimon reference in next months title we riot! :02stab:

Incidentally, it's now only 3 more weeks until its release.
Also incidentally, there is still no store page.

Take your bets, when will it get one?
2 weeks before release?
1 week before release?
Release day?
After release?

Thanks. I have created a buy order then. What is funny is that it looks better on the main market page than the buy order for the legit listing.

I dreamed Death Stranding was releasing on PC this year and the butthurt by Sony fanboys was real.

I believe this is the first time I dream of videogames in like a decade.

Uhh what

Although I think that now it's less likely for Death Stranding to come to PC, I definitely want so see the butthurt of losing exclusive.

And this link has been thrown around everywhere since yesterday Sony Interactive Entertainment confirms Death Stranding is a full PlayStation exclusive. - Jack of All Controllers (it's fake)

Now I'm curious how many copies will Atelier Thighza sells.
Meat+decent visuals in a JRPG?
It will obliterate the sales of all the others. With decent marketing, maybe day one. On PC that won't even be that hard, the series topped at 600~ concurrent players.

But the design of Code Vein really is something... shit looks stupid.
