It is so hard to say, at the moment it seems more like major gaming companies in China are attempting to appease regulators to prevent them from being hit by more regulation. Since what has been proposed is not legally binding, who knows if there will be any real bite to this latest crackdown, but it really does feel like the CCP wants to see demonstrable change this go around.

So far it is completely up in the air what will happen to the parts of the industry outside of China (e.g. Will Tencent/Netease/others be force to divest from companies outside of China? Will companies they own outside of China still be held to the proposals? etc.) That said, I could definitely foresee less games being published outside of China from the major companies. I just hope the Chinese indie scene can still find ways to operate as usual as there have been some amazing indies out of China.

If the worst case scenario does occur and China blocks outside PC platforms...yeesh, it could be a bleak next few years until things stabilize given how much the industry been able to grow due to expansion into China. I would say VPNs could offset, but those have also seen crackdowns from time-to-time. I suppose we will see within the next few months/years. I wonder if Steam China would make the cut?
I can see China trying to strong arm Tencent and such even for their external subsidiaries, but so long as the products arent available in China without it being a version that has some kind of lock in place to enforce this rule, those subsidiaries should be fine - at least I'd think.

People were specifically worried accessing builds that publisher didn't make available and not whole feature, those builds are still in danger:

From my understanding part of the reason for why they were buy up studios outside of China was so that they can still make money outside of China because of these regulations but because they are a Chinese company and because they have to play nice with the government that could also mean that their over seas subsidiaries would also have to comply to these laws as well. And if not then they would be forced to sell those companies.

Valve responded to PC Gamer about downloading old versions of Steam Games.

Steam will still let you revert to old game builds, despite beta concerns | PC Gamer

Update: Valve has responded to claims that Steam will soon disable the option to download previous versions of games. In a statement provided to PC Gamer, a spokesperson clarifies the company is not planning to disable access to older versions of software.

"We are actually not planning to disable downloading old builds. What we are working on is an approach on handling edge cases involving unowned content, and helping partners more easily take down builds that need to be removed for things like copyright issues," the statement reads. "We’ll have more to share on that work when it’s ready to ship."

I'm upgrading to Windows 11 from the insider release channel, wish me luck.
one thing i do not like with windows 11 is that the windows logo is slightly off center when you have a good amount of programs, so in the end, it kinda just looks pretty weird
if you have a lot of programs open, a lot of them are also hidden behind the taskbar to the right bottom of the screen, so you gotta close some programs or use the funny button to open up all programs so you can select that one specifically

I guess this isn't much of an issue for users that prefer the traditional left aligned taskbar icons.

I'm gonna wait for the release date (October 5) to upgrade, one game that I frequently play still doesn't support Win 11 (PSO2 NGS, the anti-cheat, gameguard, still doesn't have Win 11 support, but there's already an announcement that SEGA is in the final stages of testing Win 11 support).

im probably just gonna keep windows 10, i just got the windows 11 on my school pc so it would be cool, but i don't do any gaming on this one (i could make it into some ps1-ps2 emulator thing, but there's no good place to get roms without having more viruses than a poor escort in the middle of las vegas durign busy season)

windows 11 is kinda nice, i'm a big fan of the new style on the file explorer

I would like to use the release of Win11 as an opportunity to streamline my file system. Shortcuts, files, everything in its right place.
I would have to start by renaming my documents folder, though, in order for all the trash developers put in it to go fuck itself and remain out of sight.
But I love the word 'Documents'. I don't want it renamed. I don't know of a more apt word for it. 'Docs' is too short, meh.

We are aware Easy Anti-Cheat have newly introduced support for Linux via Wine/Proton.

Currently, Vermintide 2 will not work for Linux users via Wine/Proton as it has to be manually enabled on our end. Whilst we wish it could be done in a couple of clicks, realistically we require dedicated resource, planning and QA to ensure it runs as seamlessly as possible.

The conversation has been initiated internally, and we will update this article once the next steps have been established.

Please be aware that whilst we will do our best to make it viable, it is unlikely that we will support Linux in an official capacity due to a lack of resource. Therefore, once live, we will not be addressing issues in Vermintide 2 that are isolated to Linux, and customer support will remain limited to Windows, Xbox and PlayStation only.
---

So it's good news that they're looking into it but, as they said, they don't actually plan to support Linux. That situation might become different after the Steam Deck has released though (since it uses SteamOS 3 based on Arch Linux), as we expect more developers to want people to be able to play their games on it.

"Collection of everything but my actual documents, because every program feels the need to chuck their random crap into this folder"
And then you name your actual Documents folder Documents. :thinking-face:

Didn't expect New World to become top launch of 2021 so far.
And maybe top 2 luanch all time, being only behind Cyberprank 2077. (I don't think top 3 records came from launch).
Top 5 all time most players.

I didn't expect this numbers on a weekday release day either to be honest so one can only imagine what could have happened if they had released on a Friday.

The game is good, I tried the beta and played again today a bit but each server has a capacity of 2k players while some servers have already a queue of 25K players.

Xpaw which I wish would be in this forum linked on his discord the stats for new world.

I don't follow you. I can't move those fucking things the dev put in MY folder, right ? It will break something ? (ex. the "Gatewatch_Logs" folder from MTG Arena, "Streets of Rage 4 Save and Config" etc.)
Crazy, I have to move my stuff to accommodate the shit I don't want.

Can't wait to download the game and have it crash to desktop.
The game pass experience for me. Looking forward to my sub lapses.
The £90 I paid for three years of Game Pass Ultimate, getting to play titles like Psychonauts 2, Gears 5, Ikenfell, Tetris Effect, Tell Me Why, and more has been worth it in terms of the value of the games I've played (and most of those are games I will only ever play once, so owning them isn't a major concern for me), but that value goes into the bin once I start paying monthly for it.

I play a lot of games a lot of the time, but I play Game Pass games less than once a month. It's reached a point where I won't be able to justify the sub in the future so I will definitely be cancelling and just subbing when something good comes out.

People who get the Steam Deck (you have to install windows on it) and when the RPGS arrive and they cant mod the games (atm at least) will be in for a rude awakening.

And now that I have a full-time job, I have to be picky with the games I play during my spare time, so I'd rather buy and play the games I realla wanna play, then play games on game pass that Im somewhat interested in just because they are on game pass.

Like, Im interested in playing Avengers campaign, but I have no plans to play it anytime soon, so I won't use game pass for it. I don't wanna force myself to play it.
