Is there any hyped upcoming tv show ? I’m back to sorta in the mood to watch something but the quick look I took a release calendar was dire.

And is Wednesday good ? The trailer was a touch too edgy but it seems to do the job.
not upcoming, but The Last of Us is good, episode 2 was just released – I hope they keep this quality up. Sticks close to the source material and the changes that are there mostly make sense.

Wednesday is good, yes. Its not amazing, tho, in my opinion. But it was good enough.

Decided to check out some stuff I missed out on last year and saw Men.

What a ridiculously weird movie. I kinda loved it. Its not quite as good as Ex Machina but I would say a tad bit better than Annihilation. This is a strong recommend if you like those 2 films. Also if you liked the movie Mother you will love this. It kinda has the same vibe.

The final 30 minutes of this was downright insane lol. You can tell Garland really wanted to outdo himself with the Annihilation ending and tbh I think he did just enough :notlikethisblob::notlikethisblob::notlikethisblob:

Watched another film I missed out on last year (or maybe year b4) Basically about a has-been former porn star whose life goes to shit and he tries to do all sorts of dumb shit....etc etc. I only ever saw him in one of the older Scary Movies.

Got to say. Surprisingly a great movie. I know A24 has a really good reputation but this might just be one their best that I've seen. Some films just feel so realistic and this one felt even more realistic. Just really well shot and produced. An all around powerful film. Strong recommend. Check it out if you have Showtime.

Watched the unrated version and it was very underwhelming. There was a bit of fun here n there but most of the movie was kind of boring. And not scary. Not a lot happened and the story very generic. The whole rogue AI stuff is so overdone at this point I don't even know why they bothered. There is more interesting shit out there like the last Chucky film or even the tv series. Also the idea of AI going rogue but still so attached to the girl is stupid and bad story telling. Seems the film is popular and did good numbers so maybe I'm getting too old for this shit but I found it to be very meh. Even the dumb Will Smith Robot film from 2 decades ago was much better than this so wtvr.

also new TMNT
Feels like they are trying so many concept with TMNT and each iteration it goes one step toward bad. This one although style looks kinda nice, did they took some inspiration from the League of Legends series Arcane, doesn't catch the vibes I had for the ninja turtles from 1987 unfortunately. :disappointed-but-relieved-face:

i find that a good thing .... so many of the media these days aim to drown you with memberberries and nostalgia .... so nice to have some that dont do that ... for example its nice to finally have Teenage Turtles being played by actual teenagers

But TMNT is still a memberberry nostalgia, just that they have re-freshen it so it appeals kids of today. Another example is how Disney turned the Duck Tales into something new so it would appeal kids today. Not even sure why they think the newer style would attract more viewers TBH.

Few shows I have seen recently that are 10/10 for me:

The Last Kingdom (netflix) - about viking immigration to (not yet existing) England and Aelfred's attempt to create England. It is spectacularly well done. Just incredible casting and acting where every character is charismating and interesting, great action, atmosphere...I loved this as much as the best seasons of Game of Thrones. There is no fantasy in this though (which is a good thing tbh, the zombies in GoT were its weakest aspect). I am Uthred, son of Uthred, and destiny is all! So good.

Giri/Haji (netflix) - Japanese cop is sent to UK to find his ex-yakuza brother who is a suspect in a murder. Hijinks ensue. But kind of serious and melancholic hijinks. Again, this show has great charismatic characters with awesome chemistry. Great ending. It is a miniseries so just one season, but I can't really nitpick anything about it.

Lazarus Project (Sky/TNT) - very interesting time travel show. The way time travel is handled here is (I think) kind of unique - the third episode in particular is just freaky and devastating, in how the consequences of time travel work here. It is by the same writer as Giri/Haji and while completely different, I couldn't stop watching. Looking forward to second season.

The Offer (skyshowtime) - sensational 10 episode miniseries from producer's perspective about making The Godfather. Total loveletter to fans of that book and film. It is both immense fun and immensely funny. Matthew Goode is particularly brilliant in this. I wish they would make second season about Part II, but even if they don't, this is a must watch.

Watched Shin Kamen Rider. Good story. Some good lines. Great music. Great rider fight in later half but way too dark. Bad acting. Bad VFX. Final boss fight is turd.

Honestly a let down. I absolutely love Shin Godzilla and watched it for a few times. I also found most of Shin Ultraman pretty fun to watch although it overstays its welcome. Meanwhile, I am just not feeling this one. The acting is especially disappointing. I felt absolutely nothing during some scenes that were meant to be emotional.

So I watched Physical 100 a while ago and that got me finding other Korean variety/game shows to watch and some of them have pretty interesting concepts. Although the episodes are lengthy I think these are pretty good watches.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Escape_(South_Korean_TV_series)
The Great Escape is a show about 6 entertainers getting put into massive Escape Room sets and them trying to find an escape. The first few escapes start off pretty slow since they're new to the concept but it picks up. There are a few horror escapes rooms as well if that's your kind of thing. It's all pretty well done and makes me wish there were escape rooms of this scale.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Genius_(TV_series)
If you have read/watched the Japanese series "Liar Game" and enjoyed that then this is right up your alley. The contestants basically play board games with one contestant being selected for elimination after the Main Match and having to duke it out with another contestant in the Death Match. Games in the main match are varied and interesting with the Death Match having a few staple games. If you can enjoy the first few episodes of this I think you will be in for a blast.

There are other shows which I can recommend but these are probably my top 2.

Finished that 4th and last season of Servant.

Wasn't a fan of the ending but I guess they had to end it somehow lol. I'm glad they were at least able to resolve and conclude the main story angle.

What a good all around show. Loved all the characters and that house. Just a good cozy mystery horror thriller.

Finished Extraction 2. Good action, good scenery, terrible ex-wife. And most importantly...

DUMB KID

That's what happen when one grows up without proper education, I guess.

It happened. I finally gave up and activated subs in my own language.
Sound mix is fucking abysmal nowadays.

And Renfield was a wet fart of mediocrity.

So recap from yesterday (I'm in my annual 'I want to see TV stuff' period) ((which is annoyingly also when the heat is cooking us alive))

The Twillight Zone S01E24-25
It's the Twillight Zone ! It aged noticeably, but it's still the GOAT ! I just encountered one dud for now, preachy formulaic predictable episode about the dangers of gambling, but the rest still has it.
4/5

Renfield
It's not even bad enough to be terrible. It's mediocre. After a painful first part, it cruises to the finish line in a watchable sort of way. It has some moments, but they are rare. I don't like gore and I must say that unfortunately the best parts were the over the top gory / comedic fight scenes. That says a lot about the movie as a whole.
You can watch it, no one will throw rocks at you, you will even earn quite a stash of brownie points from the nerdier part of the internet for the Nicolas Cage factor, but, when all is said and done, we can all agree that you spectacularly failed your movie selection.
It happens, there are far worse movies, it's just mediocre.
1/5

Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves
I hated the movie from the start, and a quick soul searching is pointing to how frantic the whole thing is. The movie is obviously incapable to let in any breathing room in its storytelling. It feels more like a checklist, of essential narrative moments, of jokes, of nerdy wink wink call-backs, than a real movie, with breathing, living moments. It's HYPER as fuck.
And while I could easily feel offended, after all the movie is clearly terrified of any downtime, treating its audience as a bunch of morons who MUST be entertained AT ALL TIME, the worst part is that it hurts itself in the process. Very difficult to give a fuck about any character at the breakneck speed everything is happening at.
Not a fan of Chris Pine or the lovable scoundrel trope. Not sure if it's just tired or if Pine didn't have the chops to pull it, but yeah, he was one of the weakest characters.
Entertaining when it finds its footing and you let go of your hopes to see a movie and not a circus attraction.
2-3/5

Wellington Paranormal S01E01-02
More of 'What we do in the Shadows' (Movie) in TV Show form. You should know what to expect. It's incredibly dumb and at the same time, mostly really funny. The actors are perfect. The risk is evident, not easy to pull off that level of dumb but funny on an episode basis, and yeah, the second one felt more dumb than amusing, not as tight as the first. But it's still a show I expect to finish and my spotlight of the day.
It knows what it wants to do and mostly achieves it. It's fucking moronic, but it's the point and it's fun.
4/5

Finished Wellington Paranormal S1 and even with all my positive bias, I must downgrade it to a 3/5. There are 2 stellar episodes, but the rest is less funny.
Like I said, when you make a dumb but fun show the risk is being more dumb than fun.

OTOH there are glorious moment of glorious dumbness of glory.

Sergeant Maaka : I'm bringing in someone who communes with the afterlife. Chloe Patterson. She's a medium.
Officer Minogue : Huh. I'm a large, you're a small, you're an XL... Dream team.

Minogue is... not the sharpest knife of the bunch.

Enjoyed this quite a lot. The film does go off the deep end a few times but for the most part it was really well directed. Dafoe was great.

But fuck this type of house/penthouse. Seriously refuse to believe this type of insane shit can be built in modern times. Such a waste of money lol.

Finally watched Beef on Netflix. I was missing out. That was really enjoyable. What a mess.
As for Oppenheimer, that was very good. It must be the fastest 3 hour movie I've watched. Like it did not stop for 5 minutes. It was giddy to see all those actors/scientists in small roles.
Unfortunately, I do not have an IMAX theater close to experience it, but I think it's still worth watching even in regular format.

Watched Castlevania. It's pretty good. Animation and story wise. Although the ending was a bit too sweet for me.

Highlight of the show: Was not expecting to see Alucard in a threesome.

Also watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, it's a fun adventure. I like it. I can see why Li Kao doesn't like it, but I'm not expecting a deep, character arcs in these kind of spectacle. I do agree about Chris Pine though.

Highlight of the movie: the thicc dragon.

Just watched The Punisher (2004) great movie.
This whole fight

A+

Knives Out and Glass Onion are funny movies to watch with friends. Just plain fun, guessing what is going to happen, nothing too violent or vulgar and even depressing.

Any movies that are fun with friends?

I've told myself whatever media format comes out next, I'm not entertaining it.
4K is the stop for me.
I own films on 4K Blurays that I've owned on VHS, DVD, Bluray and 4K :V
Honestly...it's SUPER fulfilling even if you get 1 or 2 a month. LOL. I have had tons of fun just sitting on movies I want and buying them when they go dirt cheap...and then act ually watching them!
I think 1 every month is fine given how fuckin expensive they are.

Which player do you use?
