the 3070 looked like a small gpu, hopefully there is an itx version of it not from zotac.

Control at 8k/60 blew my mind.
They probably mean 8k DLSS (2160p) but still.

I want that card.

So, based on that presentation, 3090 will not be a whole lot faster than 3080 in non-ray traced games? Like 36/30 = 20% faster at most?

Now I want real independent benchmarks etc. If actually 30 tflops on 3080 raster performance I'll be damn impressed!

So to you people with more knowledge than me, will my 5820k 4 ghz bottleneck the 3080 at 1080p?

I keep reading that 1080 is more CPU-driven than GPU-driven.

Damn, I didn't expect the 3080 to be such an improvement over a 2080Ti.
Still, need to see benchmarks but I'm impressed.

I wonder how the custom manufacturer's coolers will compare to the Founder's Edition push/pull setup.

How much faster at non-ray traced games will the 3080 be compared with a 2080 ti?

Since a large part of the potential performance uplift comes from a very non-traditional method (superscalar FP32) it will likely greatly differ per game. The baseline should be ~20% but it could in theory go up to ~50% in games which benefit a lot from that shader layout.

Where's that from? I can't get a store page.

Yeah, curious about that. I wonder if any (air cooled) AIB will actually be better than the FE 3090.
Log into your local nvidia.com web page and add "/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/" to the link. For example, my local page is this

If they really reach 93°C, we'll get some funny new UHD cooking on a GPU videos.

Is Nvidia lying about a theoretical 30 tflops peak? Or is the max theoretical simply a software pipe dream, like multi threading in the early 90s?

I just looked up my case specs...
  • GPU max length
Max 315 mm with front fan mounted
Hmm.

Neither. It's the theoretical peak, and you'll likely get as close to reaching it as you get to any other HW theoretical peak with software that takes full advantage of it.

It's just not likely that all shaders in existing and older games have sufficient FP32 parallelism to make full use of it.
It's very similar to the dedicated INT path in Turing: in some games (non-RT), it's only slightly faster per core and clock compared to Pascal, while in e.g. Doom Eternal the difference is very significant. And there's a full range of outcomes between the extremes.

As a 2080 Ti owner who is not really cost limited for any of these new models, I think I will have to go for the 3090 to get a notable bump in most games, but I am a bit jealous of people who stuck to reasonably priced past models and can now get such a good deal on the 3080.

A bit annoying that the 3080 is right in my budget, but I don't feel comfortable replacing a 2-week old PSU. :confounded-face:

Oh well, unless reviews clearly show that 650W are enough (but why would it? official specs talk about 750W), with the savings I'll buy an m.2. 🤷‍♂️

There is a big price gap between 3080 and 3090. Jensen made it sound like 3090 is more of a Titan level class, just renamed.
I wonder if there will be a 3080Ti for 999€ - 1199€.

Maybe I should wait an extra month or two, it's not like a 2080Ti is going to run out of air tomorrow.
Decisions, decisions.

sooooo ... anyone want to sponsor a 3090 for me? :p
I swear, if I win the lottery jackpot I'm going to buy everybody posting in this thread today a 3090.
