There is a big price gap between 3080 and 3090. Jensen made it sound like 3090 is more of a Titan level class, just renamed.
I wonder if there will be a 3080Ti for 999€ - 1199€.

Maybe I should wait an extra month or two, it's not like a 2080Ti is going to run out of air tomorrow.
Decisions, decisions.

I swear, if I win the lottery jackpot I'm going to buy everybody posting in this thread today a 3090.
You're too kind🍻. Every time the window blows I'll think: Lowenstein... Lowenstein 🤣

That's some nice stuff! If my previous card hadn't died last year and I got a 2060, I'd immediately jump on one of those. I wonder if AMD has anything comparable.
At least they'll probably get my moneys for a Ryzen soon-ish, because I really need to upgrade my CPU (4 core without hyperthreading is getting oooold :grimacing-face: )

Do we have numbers for Nvidia IO VS magic SSD?
Not yet. But I guess nvme gen3 and gen 4 will probably see the most benefit.

GeForce RTX GPUs are capable of decompression performance beyond the limits of even Gen4 SSDs, offloading dozens of CPU cores’ worth of work to deliver maximum overall system performance for next generation games.

Okay let's say I could overclock a 3090 (thanks to the power of water-cooling) to ~1900MHz.

That would make it a 40 tflops peak card.

🤯

Can you even imagine where we'll be by the end of next gen, consoles?

I should be fine with to pair my 6900K with the RTX 3090 (for 4K), right?
In all honesty. I'm not sure you wouldn't be CPU bottlenecked.
A 3090 could have the potential to be faster at 2160p than a 2080Ti at 1440p.
And I'm fairly certain a 6900k would bottleneck a 2080ti at 1440p in a couple games.

You might get CPU bottlenecked in a game that isn't too GPU heavy, especially if you're running DLSS.
But you'd still be "fine" since you'd be running at >=60 FPS.

If your GPU gets bored you can downsample from 6k or something :p

While we're talking about power consumption.

Whilst I'm playing RDR2@1440p, my GTX1080 is at 100% and my 9700K is at 5GHZ, my RM750i is only using 270w.
So a 750w will be more than enough for a 3080 IMO.

According to the DF video:
Borderlands 3, 4k, maxed out:

DF 2080: 34 FPS
DF 3080: +80% = 61 FPS
My 2080Ti [~18 tflops): 49 FPS (+44%)

This would make a stock 3080 25% faster than a fairly well overclocked 2080Ti (in this game). That's very cool!

1440/120 is what i play in pretty consistently. my monitor is only 120hz cause an ultrawide that goes higher mostly costs 2x the price of what i paid lol.

Well looks like I'll go with a 3070 early next year, this turned out better than I hoped, if I can sell my GTX 1070 for 200ish I'll be alright with the 3070 price after the dust has settled.

Will stick with my RTX 2080 Ti, which should last me well with my 1440p screen.
It's great to see though that performance at 4K is getting really great, even with ray tracing heavy games. The 3080 looks like an amazing upgrade if you have an older GPU, for sure.

I'm going to be real curious to hear about noise levels. Pretty sure EVGA didn't debut with waterblocks on Turing, would hate to buy a 3 fan solution for it to be a vacuum cleaner. I could see the FE being better for noise (although that was the question last time, at least it has a chance this time).

I guess I have to expect something like the EVGA 3080 XC3 to at least be noisier and hotter than an equivalent HSF 2080 Ti.

Everything looked great from that presentation. Is brain matter going to be leaking from my ears if I upgrade from my laptop 1060 to 3080? I'm looking forward to building my pc.

Hmm. Ideally I'd be aiming for 90-120 when possible (DLSS, lowering settings that aren't worth the cost, etc), but I know that won't always be the case at 4K. Do you think the bottleneck potential is significant enough to consider the 3080 instead?

If you're looking at high framerate gaming I do think you could be CPU limited in some games over the next few years. In that case it might make sense to save that $800 (!) and upgrade your CPU/MB somewhat sooner instead.

But it really depends on individual games, and how widespread DLSS (or similar technology) becomes.

I’ve never bought a GPU at release. Where do I need to point my internet browser, and when, to get my hands on a 3080 ASAP? Is it worth it to get a Founder’s Edition or should I go for a third party (probably EVGA for me) instead?

Grabbing a 3080 near launch, and I'll upgrade my 3900x if I get bottlenecked at 1440p to Zen 3.

1440p/120+ FPS gaming in AAA games maybe a reality?

First of all, wait for real benchmarks from many sources. Maybe a 3090 won't be as good as I hope it will be. I'm waiting too, never buy something blindly!
Depending on how eager or in need of an upgrade you are, I still think there is a realistic chance of a 3080Ti coming out. But that's speculation.

If 1500€ was my budget, I'd still go for the 3090 instead of a 3080 + new CPU in your case. At least for 4k. I think a 3090 will give you a bigger performance boost than a new CPU + a 3080. Even in a scenario where your GPU isn't being fully utilized.

Is it worth it to get a Founder’s Edition or should I go for a third party (probably EVGA for me) instead?
Top tier partner cards like the Trio X, Strix, EVGA XC Ultra , Gigabayte Auros Xtreme were more quiet, ran cooler and had better OC potential because of that.
That said, 20 series FE cards weren't bad and a big step up over 900 and 1000 series, those were bad.

Lower Tier cards like the EVGA black, MSI ventus, Asus Dual were rather similar to FE performance this 20-series generation. Maybe sometimes even a bit worse.

Personally I'm a bit worried how loud the new FE cards are going to be. But we have wait for reviews.

I currently have a 6700k but I'm going to get a 3080 as soon as I can. Plan to get a new Ryzen before the end of the year - thought I'd order some parts now and then but the case I've picked is never in stock.

Over at the Finnish Nvidia site the prices end up being 1589, 739 and 529 €uros, very curious how local retailers price them.
Waiting for proper benches and 3rd part cooling solution tests now.

And money would be nice to have. :blobweary:

Either the 3080 or 3070 for me, depending on reviews and pricing locally.

My 1080ti stil running strong at 1440p, 144Hz. RDR2, Control, BL3, HZD still plays well over 60 fps for me but it will be sweet to finally see rtx firsthand with high fps in metro exodus and control and newer titles.

Colorful, Palit, Galax, Inno3d are the most competitive in price and cooling performance wise in Indonesia, and probably the SEA market as well. Hope to see a good cooling solution from them.

Having slept on it i think ill be getting a 3090, same as you ive never bought a card at launch. I think you go to the Nvidia website direct to buy a FE card or depending where you are go to 3rd party seller, I'd use OCUK as im in the UK. My last card was a FE and i had no problems with it.

I have a question:

Since I've been watching alot more streams nowadays on my second, non G-Sync monitor, I run into alot of issues where as soon as my GPU utilization hits 99% because of a game the streams start to stutter and eventually drop to 360p. I wondered, if I disconnect my second monitor and connect it to the integrated Intel GPU of my CPU the problem should go away right? Will I run into any issues with G-Sync on my primary monitor if I do that?

I honestly have no idea, but it sounds interesting to try. Especially with the new Windows settings for deciding which programs to run on which GPU.

I guess I have to try it out then and post my results. One reason I kept my iGPU disabled so far is, last time I enabled it my MSI Afterburner OSD setup completely broke because suddenly there was GPU1 and GPU2 but I guess I have to tackle that eventually then.

I just wish we had a bigger memory pool on the 3080. It's 10GB of fast memory yes, but I dont know what the future will give us.
Loved the presentation, my 1080 Ti will finally get retired.

Buying the 3080 this september, and the next ryzen whenever it shows up. My 6700K needs changing because my PCI-Ex16 port died due GPU sag, I'll have to use a 3080 in PCI-E3 8x lol

So I want to help my friend upgrade for the RTX 3080, and while prices may change over the next months for certain parts, stuff he'd like to know are what is a good budget CPU to get that can last him for a couple of years, a good power supply unit for the RTX 3080, motherboard, and a good cooling solution.

Now of course this needs to be affordable at a good budget price, and it is mainly to get a reference for how he intends to make his build by year's end at least.

Hard to say without an explicit budget. But assuming he is looking forward to buy a 750€ GPU:

B550 board ~ 150€
r5 3600x or r7 3700 ~ 200€-300€
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II - 280 ~ 90€
16GB DDR4 3600 ~ 70€
1TB NVMe Gen 3 ~ 100€
750W Seasonic Prime ~ 140€

~ 750 - 850€

fantomena If you mean just unplug the SSD from the current machine and put it into a new machine then I'd say sure, in my experience if it boots then windows will just use default drivers for the new hardware it finds. It might moan about the Serial Key but it should work. I wouldn't go swapping it back and forth between two PCs all the time but it should be fine to just swap over to a new build.
