|OT| Valve's Steam Deck (OLED)- coming to Straya in Nov 2024

I got my Deck on Monday. I've only played the Deedlit game, SRW and Tales of Arise. Thing works great. The analog sticks feel really great. I only have two complaints so far.

1) The one time I tried remote streaming, the streaming portion failed on my desktop. But on the steam deck, it was kind of stuck on a black screen and I couldn't get it to actually close gracefully.

2) I can't find the option (if it exists) to switch the confirm/cancel buttons for the steam UI. I mess it up constantly....

maybe one of the 3dfx/D3D wrappers has linux compatible version ... i would at least try game with dgVoodoo dlls under proton
I I remember there is an option for those wrappers to translate the Glide API to OpenGL. That should probably have the best chances to run under Wine, assuming Trespasser did support a Glide mode

You mean the 1998 game, Trespasser? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trespasser_(video_game)
I guess since that one is pre D3D9, you'd just need to hope Wine support improves. For older games like that, there isn't much Valve can do with their fancy Vulcan translation layer.
Wouldn't using dgVoodoo2 to translate to DX11/12, which then could be dxvked be an option? It works for both Glide and D3D pre 9 games.
Or can't you do daisy chain injection on SteamOS?

I have no idea what Trespasser specifically is doing. Maybe it's only using glide if it detects a Voodoo card and uses D3D otherwise.
EDIT:
Looking it up, it seems to only support D3D 6

Fingers crossed that Valve will send out more emails today.

And that I will get my email

EDIT. No email for me :cryblob:

I had to nuke Death Strandng from my Deck. After every reboot it was starting to redownload (or re-validate) the whole game, which takes forever. And it wasn't the usual updates or shader-caching games do, there must have been something wrong with the installation - it was even freezing my Deck and I could not even restart normally. Weird issue.

Bought Jurassic World Evo 2 and Planet Coaster.
JW even has a Steam Deck profile in the graphisc setting, neat. I customized it to run even higher and used TAA upscaling, locked to 30fps and the game runs and looks like a charm on the Deck. Fun game!

About two weeks with the Steam deck and it’s been mostly Vampire Survivor on the train.

Ordered a cityslicker case from SFbags.com as the case for the Steam deck is very good but bulky and not easy to slip in and out. Also ordered the DBrand skins and screen protector so I’ll review em when they all get in.

For my own sake I am telling myself I will not receive the email for my Steam Deck until late May, but I am hoping production somehow ramps up and I sneak into late April or early May. Most the estimators have me mid May.

I ordered the dbrand trackpad skin since I am not sure what kinda of plastic the trackpads are and if they will get shiny from use. I almost ordered the screen protector, but realised it would probably be silly to use a shiny protector on matte screen.

[HIDEPOSTS]Just as I feared, the time has come for me to finalize my deck purchase and I have one day left to do so. My dilemma is that I made the reservation on the US region but I no longer reside there. I can have the deck sent to a friend of mine there who is willing to ship it to me halfway across the world, but I'm almost certain that if I do so, my permanent Steam billing address will be changed to his, and that would mean adding sales tax to my account, which is basically a deal breaker for me. If only Valve allowed us to "gift" the deck then that wouldn't be an issue.

Not to mention the possibilty of losing the deck hardware lottery and having to RMA it from all over here. I'd be willing to take this risk if it wasn't for the previous issue, since I really would like to have the deck, but those two things together are not exactly ideal. Decisions decisions![/HIDEPOSTS]

could have been the recent update ... iirc it was few MB patch that was updating whole 60gigs of the game ... so might have derped out the deck

I was hoping that would be the case but the gift option is "greyed out" for me. Could it be that by "within your country" they actually mean my physical address?

EDIT: My actual address probably have nothing to do with it since I just tried with a VPN and nothing changed. Damn.

I would be willing to YOLO it when it comes to possibly getting unlucky with faulty hardware but I feel like I can't justify changing my Steam billing adress :/[/HIDEPOSTS]

I'd try to ask Steam Support. I remember reading probably on Reddit that someone had the same problem and they sorted it out I think.

[HIDEPOSTS]Problem is my Steam account region is set to the US but I'm not residing there currently, which is why I feel that the only thing they'd recommend to me is to switch it to my actual current address. But that won't cut it since the Deck isn't available here :face-with-cold-sweat:[/HIDEPOSTS]

I feel like Ralphie in Christmas Story running to the mailbox to see if the Ovaltine Decoder came in. No Steam Deck email yet.

Oh, silly question: is there a way to tell steam to stop creating shortcuts to newly installed games on the linux desktop ?
The real estate is clearly not suited for that.

So I don't have a Steam Deck. but on Linux (so for you this would be opening Steam in Desktop mode) when I want to install a new game, there's an option (on by default) to create a shortcut on the Desktop. Maybe if you turn that off, Steam will remember that for new installs in Deck mode too?

I... I tried to launch Yuzu. Installed it a while back and as far as I recall it worked (maybe only in desktop or game mode it's fuzzy).
Now I'm greeted by a former filepath for the isos and when I enter the filesystem to point to the new location, I can't for the life of me set it up. I suspect it's because it's on the SDCard.

No need for help (though it would be super appreciated), just needed to rant a little.

At this point I think I mistakenly ordered the Hipster Edition of the Deck which hates everything from Japan.
I wanted the Weeboo Limited Edition :cryblob:

Just for curiosity sake, how long did it take you guys between ordering and receiving it?
I completed the order last thursday and up until now there's nothing. I know this past weekend was easter so I wasn't expecting to receiving it by now but at least some news regarding shipping or a tracking number.

I was very lucky and got it in four days. Monday order and Friday delivery.

Yesterday I got fed up with my emulation issues, formated the sd card and installed both emudeck and emulationstation. Little did I know that… the real Dark Soul started there.
On the bright side emudeck somehow solved any issue I had with using the sdcard. But overall, eh, on the simplicity to set up front, I had emulators woes and now I still have emulators to fine tune but also a front end and a bajillion cores installed. You really can’t avoid banging your head against Retroarch to understand how to fucking put the bios the correct way, the shaders and find where they put the internal res option.

I was at the end of the process, testing games per system and setting the shaders / res up when I got a severe hypoglycemia attack in the knee.

Fun evening, would not play again.
