I have a confession to make

I was one of those few people that did think that the Ouya could kill consoles.... I even pre-ordered one from my local Gamestop.

Luckily money was tight and I had to cancel my pre-order for one.

Also I am not sure if people remember these but I bought a Android "stick", I didn't not have a good phone at the time and I was still using Android 2.3 at the time. I think Android 3 was already out but that was mainly for tablets. Anyway I only ended up using it a few times and as a high school student spending $100USD on anything is a lot of money. I also remember trying to hack my DSi and play games on it, that didn't pan out the way that I had hoped.

As for tomorrow I hope that they at least show 5 min of gameplay or something. Because if it's just the story trailer or something like that, that will not help sway the middle crowd.

As I have mentioned in the past (and Durante was talking about this earlier today) Valve is weird and I mean one of it's greatest strengths is also it's greatest weaknesses. Unlike a lot of people valve does not have to spend million upon millions of dollars marketing stuff on Steam (Sony, MS, and Nintendo) do spend money on advertising stuff. But Valve doesn't do this. In a lot of cases all you need to do is add a Steam logo at the end of a trailer and people will know it's coming to Steam even just typing the name of a game on Steam will more often then not bring up a Steam Store page as one of the top 3 links.

I think for the Index reveal Valve did fly some of the gaming press to Valve to show them the Index (I would imagine that there were some outlets that they didn't invite) but here is the thing that even after all of that I think we can agree that a lot of people still had no idea what the Valve Index was/is.

Anyway like some one once said any press is good press. Because other wise you would not get noticed and that is the worst type of press that you would want.
---

By the way how crazy is it that KT is actually updating some of it's PC games!!!!!

Nioh just got an update for some multiplayer bugs

Ok, so after messing with xCloud a bit on public wifi in my campus' cafeteria (not the best circumstances, since there's at least 2 dozen other folks on the connection) - this is gonna take off while Stadia is going to crater. Loading of my FH4 save was quick and easy, it performed well, and playing other stuff like Vermintide 2, Puyo Puyo Champions, Bloodstained, and even DMCV were all very impressive.

Quite frankly I was shocked at how well DMCV performed/looked. Very little latency, though I have an inkling there might be a server farm somewhere in Irvine, and I am testing from here.

Amazing video. Thanks for sharing!

I laughed for almost the entire video. Steve's coup de grâce at the end was great as well! I laughed the hardest when they need to create a totally new Gmail account lmaooo :dana_blanket:

How is it visually? I'm currently playing Uncharted 4 on PS Now and it honestly plays fine and seems responsive enough that I haven't noticed any delay or whatever, but it's the image compression that's really killing it for me. I can tell that the game looks really good and this is certainly better than not playing it at all. But it's making it really hard to appreciate the visuals and I was wondering if it's a PS Now problem or a streaming problem in general.

Well, I haven't used PS Now in a while, but I am experienced with Remote Play - and yeah, even on a "good" connection I'd say that its more liable to lower image quality. xCloud had moments when the visuals would distort, but oddly enough it tended to be a very small portion of the screen, while the rest was unaffected. I'd say it's absolutely a more polished experience than my time with Remote Play, which I can only assume is using similar tech to PS Now.

What's your wifi speed considering it's the campus cafeteria?

I should have brough gujian when it was on sale with the pricing mistake :(
Did not purchase the as the store page is not in English
how much was it with the pricing mistake? though you could always wait for a sale later down the line

Remember this Chinese indie game?

In less than a year it was able to sell over 200k copies on Steam in Early Access

Trying to understand which Guilty Gears and Blazblue are canon. This will end in a headache.
?
Blazblue has st least 4 games:
Calamity triggrr is 1
Cont. Shift is 2
Chronophantasma is 3
Central fiction is 4
Each gsme continues the plot

Blazblue Cross tag Battle is a dream match gsme that just pits characters from various arksys gsmes and guest characters against each other
Blazblue does have visual novel spin offs but are not necessary to the plot IMHO

Guilty gear chronology iirc is
Guilty Gear
Guilty Gear X
Guilty Gear XX
Guilty Gear 2
Guilty Gear Xrd

Guilty Gear XX is a side story of sorts that delves into characters own thing. Any other gg game is just extra side stuff.
Rev2 has a synopsis mode for gg xrd story up to that point.

There was a canon pachinko gg game but u can just read its synopsis online.

PS I am not sure if it has been mention already or not but the PC version of DQB2 will support 4K. In comparison the PS4 Pro could only for 1080p. I hope this means that SE and KT also went to the trouble of unlocked fps

Helpful post.
I realized I didn't give enough of a shit to play some of the entries in there so I just went with the last one for each. Hope I didn't make a mistake.

Far as blazblue is concerned i would just settle with the 4th gsme as it would include a synopsis of events up to that point
Not worth going thru the gameplay changes of 4 games just for its...story.

I'd like to say a couple of things about Half-Life: Alyx being a VR game. I absolutely understand why a Half-Life game after all these years being locked behind the purchase of an expensive peripheral is upsetting to many people. I want to play it just as badly as anyone else, however I try to be careful with my gaming spending and I simply can't justify such an expense at this point. So I'll have to wait, probably a long time, for VR kits to enter impulse purchase territory. It's an 'exclusive' to PCVR so I'm shit out of luck.

The difference between a game like HLA (based on what we've heard so far) and a run-of-the-mill exclusive of a console platform holder is that Steam's non-VR customers aren't being locked out for arbitrary reasons, i.e. 'fuck you give me money'. HLA would sell many millions of copies more if it was a regular game and Valve knows that. Valve set out from the start to design a VR game and the differences between a normal game and a VR game are so substantial that there are legitimate reasons for why the game may not translate well to regular screens and control methods as is. I think it's possible that Valve will adapt the game for regular screens in the future but I am sure that it will take a lot of extra work.

That said, the argument that "you made us wait for a Half-Life game for so long and now you lock it behind expensive hardware" is a valid one. I have long held the opinion that Half-Life 3 and The Orange Box 2 will be used to push the inevitable Steambox 2.0 so I don't think that this HL game will be the last one. Even so though, if you're a fan of the series it really sucks that you can't play the newest game without spending hundreds of dollars on top of what you've spent for your PC. It really sucks.

So, in my opinion, both sides are right. VR gamers are right to be happy for getting a big HL game that is designed from the ground up for VR, non-VR gamers are right to be upset that they'll have to spend a lot of money to play it or not play it at all.

Play them for their gameplay.
Blazblue: go with 4th game as it is the one mainly being played

Guilty gear-
XX #R was for s time the best ver. Of the series

XX Accent Core Plus is the latest ver. That has vsrious changes from XX (tourney viable Justice and Cliff, AIR POTEMKIN BUSTER etc.)

Guilty Gear 2 is an interesting sp action gsme concept

Guilty Gear 1 is mainly to see the series humble beginnings.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 is the version everyone is playing now. It simplified some aspects of the XX series and should be essy to get into and even has easy input.mode for casual fun :3

Yeah I realize the intent seems at the very least odd, but the two series are famous for their VN like plot, if I'm not mistaken.
Anyways, yeah, not enough shit given to play through several systems.

By the way there is the possibility that by the end of the month the Valve Index will be available in more countries. And if it does happen that those will not be sold directly through Valve but rather more traditional retail store that will be selling them.

chances are high, as I said the other day, I'm sure Valve is looking for expanding the number of countries elegible to buy the Index, it all depends of the tariffs, transport services and the deals they can get, we will see but I think chances are high, they want that so they can totally sell packs of HLVR + Index.

As for traditional retail stores...not happening at least here in Europe, Asia? maybe, deals are really different over there, but don't count on it just in case.

I guess Tsukumo will be selling the Valve Index in Japan. In the past I think Valve had Degica selling their Steam Link and Steam Controllers in Japan.
If that's the case then it's probably that they will do the same with Index, didn't know that if some Japan retailers had Valve products. good to know.

I wonder what their production capacity is for Index these days. If nothing else the price helps keep it in stock, but it will be interesting to see if there are shortages again with the HL:A announcement and/or christmas.

The Degica stuff I think was online only it seems but the Tsukumo stuff seems like it will be also sold in retail stores since Tsukomo does have physical retail stores.

That being said it seems that the Index Controllers which a decent amount of VR Chat users in Japan want will cost around $370 USD while Valve sells them for $280USD. So they will cost about $100USD more, but then again stuff cost more in Japan seeing how it has to be imported. I'm guessing the whole index kit there will cost between $1,2k-$1.3k USD.

Degica is sort of weird since they also have a sub division (subsidiary?) that publishes games like Groove Coaster

Which they do recommend that you play using a Steam Controller. (I think it has since been updates since their online store where they sold Valve products in Japan is down now)

Yeah, it will be interesting to see the numbers of VR headsets in general, not only Index and if their production capacity can hold the demand but also if Oculus and WHD will also increase their numbers just because of this game.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing :D

9 more hours until we witness the death of mouse and keyboard gaming.

:confused-face:

I'm predicting like a mini documentary 5-10 minutes long where Valve employees are talking about and using VR headsets while in the background you see a little gameplay. And in the end they announce release date. I think that would make the most sense to showcase Alyx without it being too confusing.

Am I shitty for not feeling bad to any of those suckers? Why would anyone buy into the hype
No, I buy into hype sometimes and then sometimes get fucked and then people point and laugh and they have every right to, so when it happens to others I too will point and laugh, enjoy the memes and then buy into some other hype and so on. And we're not talking about that big of an investment, it's not a 'haha you bought a 500k house that crumbled and now your life is ruined sucka' situation, it's more akin to buying an expensive CE of a terrible game. Or RDR2 PC at launch. Plus who knows, Google will keep working on it, finetune the business model and someday it might be just fine. Or dead.

Your prediction is on point of what will happen, it will be the typical showcase of the development, artwork, a few glimpse of gameplay and of course the interview in the middle.

I think no gameplay would be shown today. To maximize hype, you would rather announce some gameplay footage for December at an Award ceremony.

Today, we should see interviews of devs, artists (including the writers), and play-testers, with glimpses of artworks on the screens, and the game logo at the end. Devs will say that they have been secretly working on the project for 3 years, artists will say that they have put a lot of work to deliver AAA quality, the writers will explain that the game will be 30 hours long with a top-notch plot, and play-testers will hype VR through the roof and explain how the new Half-Life is a revolution for VR itself. Then, the logo and the release date for March 2020, with a voice-over for Freeman reading the release date. That is how I would do it.

Has valve had any presence at tga? I wish they didn't legitimize that cringey stuff (even outside the egs shilling) but I guess it's possible. Although with how much of an afterthought VR is at this year's awards (just one category as if every VR game can compete against any even though non VR games need a ton of different genre and styles and different technical or creative aspect awards etc.) it really isn't an event they should offer their world exclusive to. They did say reveal so I'm confident there will be some in game stuff shown today even if they do have exclusive trailers for the event, key art & info isn't a reveal.

Yea I think Valve's main goal in this is to sell people headsets right now. You need to show and talk about something mind blowing so that everyone goes into shopping mode these next month with BF/Christmas. Cinematic trailers aren't gonna do it. They'll hold that stuff off closer to release with story marketing etc.

Also I hope all the leaks and rumors of this being a prequel are false. I really don't see why this can't be a continuation of Episode 2 through the eyes of Alyx. Because you don't play as Gordon there is no reason to call it Half-Life 3 imo so Valve has a reason for the title. Maybe Gordon and Alyx split up after those events. And this entire game is you playing as Alyx to meet up with Gordon or rescue him.

Being prequel would be lame with everything that happened to City 17, citadel and her dad. I don't really see people being very hyped for wtvr story that is.

No, they have never been at TGA (at least post-SpikeTV era) and In the valley of gods was not a Valve game yet as the studio was bought 2 weeks later.

TBH, I can potentially see a mere 2 seconds clip of gameplay just as a quick glimpse, it's actually really common to do such thing but yes, format will be like a little documentary, a la No Clip kind of video.

While Valve would be more than happy selling all the Index possible, their goal is not just making their headset a best seller hardware but making VR attractive whatever headset you have or choose, but yeah, their pack strategy will be interesting to see.

Speaking of the game, no, the game is totally a prequel, it happens between episode 1 and 2, do not expect a sequel or you will be disappointed, and to be honest, I can see them enjoying more making a prequel and exploring parts of the story we have yet to see, so, I expect a really great arc ^^

What does the story point matter, did people whine MGS3 was set in the 70s with big boss instead of solid snake that much?

As long as it's a Half-Life game and is good it can take place before the black mesa incident for all I care :d

Hopefully with less story focus than HL2 even, I liked the more lean approach of the original game.

I personally dislike things that "take place before", if I follow something then I have an internal headspace where something is at and anything that takes place before, it doesn't matter in a sense. Sure it can be interesting but I prefer the story to go forward.

Though this is more of a thing with movies and tv and not that much with games, since gameplay is still king.

So in the past 24 hours, a bunch of EGS exclusives (ones that have public Steam pages at least) randomly added or removed new Steam Achievements. Did a bunch of EGS developers decide to get together and randomly update their Steam pages? I know its likely nothing but I just thought it was funny.

Here's the list of updated games.

Close to the Sun - Added 1 new achievement
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey - Removed all existing achievements
WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship - 4 new achievements
The Outer Worlds- 5 new Achievements
Wattam - 4 added, 1 removed
Outer Wilds - 7 new achievements
The Sinking City - 17 removed achievements
Ooblets - 7 removed achievements

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also on a side note, the rest of Halo MCC's achievements were added. The Xbox version currently has 600, but since Reach is not included in the Xbox list yet it looks like Reach will have 100 achievements dedicated to it. (unless they add more)

I love that with the new Steam Library I can finally see which games exactly I've completed without using an external site.
I used it last night to check which games I had near completion and saw that achievements were added to 3 games: I didn't expect more contents for Grim Dawn coming out! I had to re-install it.

Also, baffling, there was an achievement added to Kingdom Rush Frontiers, which is not the last game in the series :confused-face:

Don't read too much into this, most of those processes are manual but they change them all the time, removals are not always removals but updates without a new upload so the old gets removed but not replaced.
