I'm curious: what are your views on the presence of adult content in games?
Particularly in non-narrative genres, like the above two examples?
Personally speaking, I honestly don't mind explicit sexual content in the vast majority of games that I play, and I'm open to playing all kinds of different games. I don't mean you FunktionJCB or anybody else in particular, but I feel that more often than not this specific need for sex to be justified is rooted in prudishness. I think that as long as the viewer is old enough, there shouldn't be excessive precautions when dealing with a very natural part of life. But hey, at the end of the day, to each their own!

I do feel like in quite a few of those games the complaints about lack of justification for the porn part have some merit.

Now obviously the vast majority of games -- even highly acclaimed ones -- don't fully succeed at having their gameplay mechanics make sense or be believably embedded in-universe (ludonarrative-you-know-what). But at least the primary gameplay mechanic being violent confrontations usually makes some sense in the context of the story, even if it's hardly original.

It's probably, indeed, a matter of personal preference. ;)

I guess I like to have things as part of some context. And, it's not exclusive to sex, the same thing happens with me with violence in videogames.
Time and time again, I have mentioned how I loved the last Splatterhouse game (I keep hoping for a PC port), which is a game that has plenty of graphic violence (and, funnily enough for the matter at hand, nudity, since the character unlocks naked pictures of his girlfriend, with some narration from her placing them into context, like when and why she took them, and even what those moments meant for their relationship). And, I love the grotesque ambience of the game, and find the graphic gore "satisfying", considering the context (a guy, left for dead, sells his soul to a demonic mask that gives him overwhelming power, and he pretty much bulldozes anything that stands in his way, in order to rescue his girlfriend). But, at the same time, something like Postal 2's violent content doesn't particularly appeal to me, since I feel it's "random".

Speaking of cinema, I guess I'm the same way. I find much more appealing erotic, non-explicit films, than straight out hardcore porn, with zooms on genitals and whatever. And, while I love horror, I prefer my violence to be less graphic (or, over the top, and played out in "cartoon-ish" fashion, like in, say, Peter Jackson's Braindead), instead of something like "torture porn" films, which I find terribly unappealing.

Sexual content found in non narrative games is sort of weird. Because there are some games (like the one that you showed) that use the sex stuff as a form of "punishment" system.

So you failed and there for the enemy is going to have it's way with you (and from what I have seen this applies to both male and female protagonist in some games)
Yep. To me this is what often makes sex in games seem weird, where sex is a negative situation equated with some form of humiliation or punishment or violence. It's unpleasant and seems to entirely miss the point. It strikes me as an unhealthy attitude I guess. I think part of it is the antagonistic nature of most games, where there is an enemy and a conflict and fighting. But that doesn't necessarily make sense in what should be, hopefully, a cooperative thing to do.

Personally I don't feel like porn needs context or a narrative, it's just porn. If anything, I'm glad porn games are trying harder on the mechanics department and becoming something actually worth playing instead of just being bad-end CG simulators.
Yep. I mean shmups and fighting games, etc are basically gratuitious cartoonish violence without any great context or narrative anyway. It's just purely spectacle and fun. I can see why sex can be tossed into that as well, why the hell not?

FunktionJCB
Also personally, sex in games can limit where and how I can play it. Like if you have a family or are around other people ... I mean I feel like I have to hide when I fight/play Mai in King of Fighters XIII, or basically all of Guilty Gear Xrd... And that's just some outfits and swinging tits. Let alone a game where the characters are going to fuck. But that depends on how you live.

I think one needs to differentiate between sexgames and games that have erotic content, but regardless of which of the two you are talking about, eroticism has always been one of the most common aspects of art and human culture and it's only been fairly recently in human history that there was a large move away from it, mostly due to a mix of capitalism + expensive productions + age ratings and we are currently back in the trajectory to the original state, which, for the first time, will also include videogames, which are a medium that spawned very much in the centre of the de-erotifcation of media, or in other words

To break a bit from all the "smut" from the last couple of pages (my fault!), I would like to mention a thread I just created, to list and showcase the quantity and quality of student games freely available on Steam.

I'm not sure if everyone's aware, but for the past few years Steam has been used by Universities, and students as a way to showcase their games and experiments, and they are all freely available for any Steam user to download.

A lot of these games feature some interesting ideas and gameplay mechanics, are relatively short (so, they won't take much of your time), and once again, they are free, so there's no money investment necessary.

When people think of student games, they think of cheap looking games, but you'd be surprised by some of these games.
There's games in every genre. Even VR games, or co-op games.

Here's a link to my thread, where I posted a list of the games I could find:

And here are a few examples, to showcase the diversity of student games freely available:

Not trying to judge you sick alien hentai loving tentacle porn freak people. I just think sex games could do better if they dropped they conflict angle and tried a cooperative challenge approach. Like a fighting game, with moves and combos, timing, superhero character types, etc. But instead of beating the hell out of the opponent you ... you know. Not 100% sure what the overall goal would be in such a scenario, but I'd play it secretly.

Actually I don't know if that exists already. I don't peruse the genre much.

I still have thrown my 2 cents so...
I consume porn, pervy content, zero fuck given to admit it. That being said I'm fairly reticent to porn in games, or porn in many things, because I thing sexual arousal is more often than not antithetical to the appreciation of the other content. Maybe I'm a caveman that can't do both.

A good example of that would be VN. I used to think porn needed a plot, that there was no reason to separate porn from writing. Then I played some hours of Cartagra and for the love of fuck, it was the perfect counter. Some sex scene are suppperrr effective, but more often than not you want to continue the plot, not stop everything and... do your thing. And I suppose the opposite is right, if you play VN for arousal, you really have to go the nukige route or you will be letdown.

I swear Steam is more down than up these days :disapproval-blob:
They have been having some problems since last week, even when not fully down.

It's awesome when you are editing a thread full of links to the Steam store, and the store suddenly goes down.
The original post is now a long, empty, black screen. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I too grabbed the Square Enix Stay at Home Bundle, but I didn't realise they were doing a charity thing with it. All the better! I've been meaning to pick up FFXII for a while, and I had my eye on DQ11 prior to that. Oninaki is just a bonus (already owned Chrono).

It was payday last week and I split £60 between my local foodbank and a homeless shelter already (honestly, at least some of the money I'm saving from not going to restaurants and pubs is better with them than with me), so I think I'm doing good karma-wise right now.

Probably no surprise to anyone, but I think we need more games about sex and lots pervier too!
They are on the way, on Steam so long as there is no rape or characters that are underage (since I'm pretty sure those are the two things that Valve wants to avoid and not get in trouble for.)

Also I wonder how much money illusion has now made off of Steam? I'm guessing that they are never going to release that one Summer game since the character looks to similar to Marie Rose from DOA.

For the past month or so this whole erotic human nature is something that I have wanted to know more about (especially since that one Niel guy from the Last of US 2 mentioned something about misogyny in video games and sexualizing video game characters and stuff like that. Which is weird because there are also people that say there is nothing sexual about breast and butts and stuff like that. So which is it... Is that sort of stuff sexual or not?) Oh also I never really thought about video game characters being role models, but I guess there are some people that really do look up to video game characters so fair enough.

It would be interesting to see a video game news publication so an article about sexual stuff over human history and how stuff in video games now is just a continuation of that.

Breast are such a fantastic topic. Everyone has breast, they are lumps of fat, women are able to produce milk with them and are able to use that milk to help sustain human life. Man are also able to get "large breast" as well but only if they themselves become fat. Skinny men will not have large breast, skinny women can have breast larger than skinny men. People like breast (and according to anime, pushed up glasses) women also like breast themselves.

Why do people wear clothes, and when we try to wear the least amount of clothes (wearing only underwear) why is it that for men it only covers downstairs, while for women it both upstairs and downstairs. Even when you see women that are basically nude why is it that the areola almost always has to be hidden but the rest of the boob is "okay" to show? People see the areola of men and people don't seem to really care.

It would appear that that there are some tribes where women don't cover their breast, why is that?

I could go on and stuff but I find all of this interesting. This stuff is part of human nature, but why is it that way, why are some of us okay with it and others from upon it.

Oh and asides from Japan why does it feel like the rest of the world find Chin-Chin to be disgusting? It's pretty nasty to look at and I doubt many people are willing to pay to see one.

Quickly going back to the adult games theme: Steam is back, and for some reason on my front page a review just appeared for an adult game that is heavily inspired by the Resident Evil series, and it's called, I kid you not: LEWDAPOCALYPSE Penesis Evil. :ROFLMAO:

You know, I'm an open-minded guy, and I'm always willing to try out different genres.
With that in mind, for you, what's a genuinely good game, that happens to feature adult content? Maybe I'll give it a go one of these days.
I mean, looking at what's available on Steam, personally, the first game I can think of is Kara no Shojo.

Maybe we need a thread with adult games recommendations.
I'm not sure how that would work (steam links for adult games won't work on forums, and obviously the screenshots posted would need to be considerate of the rest of the forum, so no adult content), but maybe someone is interested in showcasing games that may be genuinely good, but happen to feature adult content?

Yeah, it comes and goes.

When I posted, I saw the front page, but then tried to access the activity feed, and it was down.
Now, it's back on.

Me buy Dragon Marked for Death for second time. On Steam, like good boy. No issue. Me glad.
32 euros shaped hole in heart, though.
Yay! Glad you were able to get it! :highfiveblob:

Hopefully that previous battle with customer service for the first purchase ended or ends with you getting your refund.

I hope you can get your money back. :)

And, now that you own it, we need to try playing a mission, just to test things, with BlindRhythm. ;)
If you guys have 30-60 minutes to spare later today (or any other day), do reach me on Steam, so we can play it for a bit.
I can take some time during my lunch break to test things out. Fingers crossed that latency won't be an issue with 3 folks from different parts of the world but I'm feeling pretty confident that things will go well. :)

Li Kao is playing the game.

I'll probably be playing the game as well in a few minutes.

If you got the time, drop us a message, and we'll quickly try a mission the three of us.
Li Kao is playing as a Warrior, me as a Shinobi, you as a Witch.
Cool, 3 different characters/classes.

According to Steam for the last two weeks I've only played on average 2 hours per day, which isn't that much at all considering sitting inside is all I can do.
I played less than that. ;)

I'm at 24 or 26 hours total in the last 2 weeks.
Not much different than the usual, despite being home. But, work still takes a lot of my time, and patience. :)

I'm only at 6.9 hours in the last 2 weeks which is way lower than usual for me. It's especially weird since I'm in quarantine lol.

I've been way too invested in binging through JoJo to do anything else I guess.

Gotta say, making a collection of Steam called "Games I need to remember playing" where I put, mostly handpicked games, all "one and done" games have helped me a lot on clearing my library for one and done games.
I keep thinking about doing that as well. :)

I really need to. I'm frequently browsing my library for a certain game, and I remember "oh, I have this game, and I'm yet to play it!". :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
Currently, I don't have a single category created.

Game wise just in the last week alone I have played in my PS4 for maybe almost 24 hours. That is the most that I have played on it, in the last 1.5 years. Prior to that I had maybe 50 hours or so in RDR2 back when it released on PS4 and tht was in November 2018. I have not played any games on Steam this week, but I have purchased a few though

I have to use a HP cheat in Ion Fury at times. It's a really good game, but very difficulty at times.
