At this point, I feel if you don't want your game devalued you just don't release on EGS. It's definitely gained a reputation as a place for dealhunters with its coupons, price slashing and free games every week.

I feel like Epic have created an undesireable situation here, and that's on them. But CDPR should know how these things work (EGS has been around long enough now), and I feel decreasing the price of the game by 1 cent to make customers pay $9.99 more for the game is a dick move on their part too.

Yep. Kind of a dick move to do this in the middle of a sale? Yes. But from what we know Epic doesn't ask people if they want to be part of their coupon scheme so I can't really blame CDPR that much.

CDPR would have no reason to want their game to go to €5. Looking at their charts it is still selling really well this year especially with the bump from the TV programme. Seeing it for €5 may make people think they'll wait for €5 on steam or gog. I'm surprised it's gone down to 15 for all of the game plus add-ons.

I know when I am about to buy a game on sale and then isthereanydeal tells me it has been cheaper before, it makes me think twice.

Also, as someone that used to work at the sales department of a hotel before the coronavirus apocalypse, I can tell you that I was frothing furious at my boss when he allowed third party sellers have better prices than what we had in our actual official website. So if I was in charge of GOG I'd immediately call CDPR as soon as this sale started to deafen them with my complaints for asking me to reach certain sales while giving someone else not the same but better prices than I have.

Just because of the rumor I’m thinking this is the case. If NOT I agree with all the sentiment here. Shitty behavior and a EGS is wagon definitely not to hitch to.

Either way Tim is truly really devaluing these games even more than he said he would.

You can't really fault devs for reacting to this type of weird shit. Most devs in this industry are in the business of selling games to gamers and not corporations.

The fact that Epic continues to do this means its not working out for them the way they want it or they really are drunk with money. If its the latter they should really just stick to their new publishing plans.

I mean, smart developers would now know to avoid Epic if they want to establish firm control over the game's perceived price, but game companies have repeatedly demonstrated themselves to pursue harmful short-term benefits (like Blizzard with their Youtube exclusivity broadcast deal that wrecked all their e-sport tournaments) so meh.

I admit I'd honestly be very happy to see similar deal on Steam, because it's pretty silly of consumer to care about well-being of businesses, but it's pretty funny to see supposed saviours of industry do this.

Technically you can do this, but not from GUI. I bet nobody knows this though.

Praise them for their new publishing strategy, for not taking money of Unreal Engine games under 1 million of revenue, but please, spare me that propaganda about their joke of a store and their exclusivity bullshit...

Yesterday, a streamer was playing Satisfactory and the new beta / experimental (or whatever it is called) branch fixed something. But that streamer received a press copy of the game.

And EGS doesn't allow press copies to get the same access to experimentals branches as paying customers.

I said "WTF", got some replies "no big deal, EGS is working fine", I said "but hell, that person supposed to tell you about the game doesn't get the same experience as paying customers, WTF is this ?"

Looks like I was the only one having a problem with this.

It happened with Artifact too. Closed beta did not allow to play-test the economy around packs, and streamers were swimming in cards. The game flopped.

No, there was only one branch. What I meant is that there was a closed beta for a year, only for streamers and pro-gamers. These people would hype the game, but they never had the experience that the player would have in the end. Every card was free for them, there was a replay feature which was scrapped for the rest of us, they could organize draft tournaments for free, etc.

It just happens that you cannot expect streamers to have the same experience as the rest of us. They are only useful to sell the game.
