At this point, I feel if you don't want your game devalued you just don't release on EGS. It's definitely gained a reputation as a place for dealhunters with its coupons, price slashing and free games every week.

I feel like Epic have created an undesireable situation here, and that's on them. But CDPR should know how these things work (EGS has been around long enough now), and I feel decreasing the price of the game by 1 cent to make customers pay $9.99 more for the game is a dick move on their part too.

Perhaps Witcher 3 will be one of the next free games?
Then it would be a move to prevent people from buying the game now.

But looking at the price history of Witcher 3 the lowest price for the Game of the Year Edition was 14,99€ until now and I think that CDPR just does not want to go below this price. They want control over where and how their games are sold (old story): Green Man Gaming and CD Projekt Red in a public spat over sale of The Witcher 3 codes (update)

I feel it's just that CDPR doesn't want it's game valued under $15 yet and the EGS keeps dropping it's listed games perceived value.
Yep. Kind of a dick move to do this in the middle of a sale? Yes. But from what we know Epic doesn't ask people if they want to be part of their coupon scheme so I can't really blame CDPR that much.

they DEFINITELY don't inform devs/publishers about those sales ... because i SERIOUSLY doubt CDPR were like "ok, you can sell it for $5 as long as we get $15" and then literally a few hours later were like "nope, we changed our mind"

I wonder how CDPR, and other developers with day 1 releases, will feel about Epic devaluing their upcoming games by $10 on day one when people start using their final Mega Sale coupon to score a new release discount?

CDPR would have no reason to want their game to go to €5. Looking at their charts it is still selling really well this year especially with the bump from the TV programme. Seeing it for €5 may make people think they'll wait for €5 on steam or gog. I'm surprised it's gone down to 15 for all of the game plus add-ons.

I know when I am about to buy a game on sale and then isthereanydeal tells me it has been cheaper before, it makes me think twice.

Also, as someone that used to work at the sales department of a hotel before the coronavirus apocalypse, I can tell you that I was frothing furious at my boss when he allowed third party sellers have better prices than what we had in our actual official website. So if I was in charge of GOG I'd immediately call CDPR as soon as this sale started to deafen them with my complaints for asking me to reach certain sales while giving someone else not the same but better prices than I have.

Just because of the rumor I’m thinking this is the case. If NOT I agree with all the sentiment here. Shitty behavior and a EGS is wagon definitely not to hitch to.

Either way Tim is truly really devaluing these games even more than he said he would.

I'm sure the answer to "Hmm, buy Cyberpunk now or wait a month for the next sale to get it a 40 bucks pretty much guaranteed?" will be $60 for most people using EGS.

I see Epic's buyback program has returned lol.

You can't really fault devs for reacting to this type of weird shit. Most devs in this industry are in the business of selling games to gamers and not corporations.

The fact that Epic continues to do this means its not working out for them the way they want it or they really are drunk with money. If its the latter they should really just stick to their new publishing plans.

I mean, smart developers would now know to avoid Epic if they want to establish firm control over the game's perceived price, but game companies have repeatedly demonstrated themselves to pursue harmful short-term benefits (like Blizzard with their Youtube exclusivity broadcast deal that wrecked all their e-sport tournaments) so meh.

I admit I'd honestly be very happy to see similar deal on Steam, because it's pretty silly of consumer to care about well-being of businesses, but it's pretty funny to see supposed saviours of industry do this.

Why is the refund news again? It was added one year ago.

Is the partial refund an automatic process without the consumers request for refund?
It's automatic. Epic still doesn't have refunds system. (You just do normal ticket).

Save coupon from this sale, use for Cyberpunk the day it releases.

so ultimately they implemented Genba API and Fanatical+GMG were sorted through it 😂 , makes it kinda dishonest to boast about 3 stores then

also :rofl at
This now occurs earlier in the launch process so players are informed if their account does not own an installed title that is being launched. If ownership does not pass this authorization check Error Code: LS-0021 will display the following:

This account does not have ownership of [game title]. If you wish to play this game, please purchase it in the store or log in with an account that does have ownership.

Special consideration was taken to try and provide an uninterrupted experience in cases of network instability or outages. For those instances, the Epic Games Store client keeps memory of owned titles, which it will automatically keep updated whenever players are online and signed-in. If for whatever reason it cannot reach our services, it will still allow the launch of the titles in this memory.
wonder how will DRMs like Denuvo work with taht when its still not really real offline mode

I do wish Steam would implement a download limiter with arbitrary values rather than its predefined ones like now. Especially cumbersome for people with faster internet than 10MB (bytes) down, the next step is a whopping 25MB/s download limit... Most (if not all?) other clients have that now.

Especially when you can already set a custom limit by editing the config.vdf file anyway.

Technically you can do this, but not from GUI. I bet nobody knows this though.

Start -> run

steam://open/console

set_download_throttle [kbps limit]

Should look like:

Code:
] set_download_throttle 75000
Success - set download throttle rate to 75000 Kbps

I see, thanks for the tip. They should implement it into their GUI tho. madjoki

Nah, I just meant we can already set a custom limit almost 6 years ago and valve still hasnt put a custom limit in their client. laughing at valve not including the option. not in anyway making fun of you.

I see. I misunderstood it completely then and apologize. Yes, it is quite laughable that they haven't made it into their GUI when you technically can do it.

Hmm.. I wonder how the devs feel about this. Epic is probably paying the refunded amount to the devs...

You know what a killer move Epic could do? Similar to GOG Connect where you sync your Steam account and activate all owned games, although only games that are available on EGS.

Please don't hate me for this :D

And pay for devs for good measure, that would be nice way give devs money without giving epic money.

I'm getting sick of all the people I know falling in love with Epic because "they give a lot of games and free money" "competition is good" "they're working hard on new features"...

Praise them for their new publishing strategy, for not taking money of Unreal Engine games under 1 million of revenue, but please, spare me that propaganda about their joke of a store and their exclusivity bullshit...

Yesterday, a streamer was playing Satisfactory and the new beta / experimental (or whatever it is called) branch fixed something. But that streamer received a press copy of the game.

And EGS doesn't allow press copies to get the same access to experimentals branches as paying customers.

I said "WTF", got some replies "no big deal, EGS is working fine", I said "but hell, that person supposed to tell you about the game doesn't get the same experience as paying customers, WTF is this ?"

Looks like I was the only one having a problem with this.

It happened with Artifact too. Closed beta did not allow to play-test the economy around packs, and streamers were swimming in cards. The game flopped.

I'm not sure I understand ; there were people in closed beta and people in another branch / version, so their experiences were different ?
No, there was only one branch. What I meant is that there was a closed beta for a year, only for streamers and pro-gamers. These people would hype the game, but they never had the experience that the player would have in the end. Every card was free for them, there was a replay feature which was scrapped for the rest of us, they could organize draft tournaments for free, etc.

It just happens that you cannot expect streamers to have the same experience as the rest of us. They are only useful to sell the game.

Part 6 is exactly what I said about the free games and coupons in the EGS. But better worded because I can't express myself in English as good as I'd like to.

Interesting part is that the author claims that Steam has a price parity clause that includes other storefronts as well. I wasn't aware of this, I thought this was about Steam keys only.

Rather ridiculous is that Valve doesn't deserve a 30% cut because they don't make hardware and don't have their own OS. Ignoring the fact that Valve does both, this is a very short sighted claim imo.

It's also funny how the author (and Sweeney) see two outcomes for EGS: becoming more successful than Steam, or Valve lowering the 30% cut. EGS becoming another Origin doesn't seem to be a possible outcome for them.

Well it also claims that release parity was added in 2019, which isn't true. (Was added before 2012).

It seems Snowrunner has sold very well on EGS (1 million+ total sales, with equal sales on every platform). I wonder why that is. Did mudrunner have such a huge loyal community? Or is this because of the streamers and coupons?

Other way, Epic isn't allowing Epic keys to be put in those.
Very good. Let's hope it stays this way. 😊
